Well it does, its been posted and i judge the results. Those vocals are literally atrocious, and he murdered the chorus and the bridge.

    Verses are cool tho

He’s saying there’s nothing that could have been done about the chorus. If the winner had used Mike’s solo vocals instead, it wouldn’t be the winner because it would have been disqualified.

No, they aren't. That's the problem. These tracks were never released on CD because LPU 15 had a bunch of exclusively digital tracks that they didn't even bother to preserve in the LPU site. They simply removed them from the store like a year later.

It doesn't really matter if they are instrumentals. They are songs nonetheless. There are artists that build their entire career around instrumental albums. You can't really play it down the importance of a song because "it's just an instrumental."

Imagine if they had released One More Light CDs with only 30 seconds of the title track and refused to release fixed CDs. Wouldn't that make you pissed?

I agree with you, but I think they made the decision that the amount of people upset by the CD situation is outweighed by the amount of effort and money it would cost to fix the issue for every person who received discs with the shortened versions.

It bothers me, but as a company I know Warner is looking at the bottom line.

Well this gives me hope that they may in the future do something about the LPU Rarities CDs.

I really don't think they will lol.

The LPU Rarities CD was messed up for all of the original pressings worldwide. That means they would have to manufacture a replacement and send it out to every single person who ordered a boxset up to that point. The other issues mentioned were specific to the EU version of the set, and also much more egregious in my opinion.

In 2020, not many of us are playing the audio from the physical discs. Most are either streaming, or they downloaded the audio from the official site. The minority of those who are really upset about the CD is far outweighed by issues like the lithograph, laminate, and DVD's being labeled incorrectly.

I wouldn't be too surprised if they don't do a big boxset like this again, but I could definitely see them doing a "Forgotten Demos" type thing for each album. Plus the obvious vinyl reissue, merch etc.

That would honestly be a shame.

Then again, Mike did say during the unboxing that he wasn't sure people would even have interest in THIS boxset at first. Then of course there was the issue of Warner severely underestimating the initial demand when they first opened pre-orders.

It's like they still underestimate mainstream interest in LP and are then surprised to be wrong... I don't see how they still do that after all these years.

Full Roxy 2004 performance (LP-only songs + both run-throughs of the Collision Course set)
Full Detroit 2003/MTV $2 Bill set

    Smokeout Festival 2003

    Full Live 8 2005 set

    Full Summer Sonic 2006 set

There's a LOT more proshot stuff to choose from for the Meteora era than for HT. They have an abundance of shows that were never released in complete form from that tour, so I leaned in that direction. Stuff like Rock Am Ring 2004 and a Projekt Revolution 2004 show are pretty much guaranteed to be on there if they do a Meteora set though.

I thought I was the only person who wanted the full Roxy show with both CC takes! If they do a Meteora box set and include CC (like HT included Reanimation), I would hope they include the full show and not just the exact same DVD they released in 2004...

You have the best list I've seen in this thread so far. All of these shows would be amazing.

  6. I can see one for Meteora for sure. Maybe MTM and ATS. I don’t really see big box sets after that.

I can imagine anniversary editions maybe with an unreleased track here and there but I don’t think they’ll go all out for LT/THP/OML the way they did for HT.

Chester says he sang this track, but Mike doesn't say anything about Chester

Mike specifically says the song was a Xero demo, and then Chester says he “had to sing that song”. That would confirm that Xero Reborn, whatever it actually is, was in a similar situation to Pictureboard. It was a Xero song that Mark sung on, and Chester sung on it after he joined the band.

What is the chance Xero reborn is actually Deftest?

If I had the Shinoda bucks I would send Mike a link to the LPTV and ask. I remember them saying it was a terrible song when they played the riff, and Mike does seem to have a pretty low opinion of Deftest. It might be the same song.

The note about Kyle is kind of funny but also kind of like, I don't know, maybe a little cynical? Like, what would Kyle's goal be in not clearing CHB? He'd know he has zero leverage to demand a bigger cut for that song, so it's take whatever Warner offers or nothing, you know?

He must know that this fanbase absolutely will not have any chill about Deftest and this 3-track sampler, though, lol. Any attempt to downplay it is utterly futile.

It did sound like Mike was pleasantly surprised that Kyle didn’t try and hold up Warner for more money lol

Imagine being that age (I’d be 58 at that time) and listening to the first ever approach to LP by your hero who passed away more than 30 years prior ...wow bittersweet

Beatles fans have gone through stuff like that with John Lennon before with demos being released and things like that decades after his death. Obviously I wasn’t alive when he was but I saw how it was bittersweet for my grandparents who were fans back in the day.

Chester's audition tape seems pretty unrealistic at this point - that's something the band will hold close to their hearts forever, and I'd be surprised if it ever, ever, EVER sees any official release. Maybe they think it's too close to commercializing Chester. Maybe they just want to keep something private, the way so little of the HT era is.

I thought about this after I posted about how I wish it had been included, and I actually do think this could be the reason. That tape was the first time they heard Chester's voice on their music. They may want to keep that to themselves and not feel like they're exploiting his memory too much. If Chester were still here, maybe they would have been more inclined to include that. Or maybe not. We'll never know.

It's also possible that the band would be cool with it but Warner chose to hold it back because they want to keep that up their sleeve for something in the future. That's a more cynical possibility, but it wouldn't be unheard of. Most huge bands do have things in the vault that will either never come out or literally might be decades before they're released... This might sound like a joke but there's a non-zero chance that HT50 will be a thing in 2050. Chester's audition tape would have even more value at that point, and I would buy it IMMEDIATELY even though I would be 59 years old at that point lol.

After I missed the first subscriber mail (the font) I found out that there is a setting in your twitch account settings that specifies if you want to receive those emails or not. It was turned off for me.
If you turn it on make sure it to wait a couple of minutes, refresh the page and check if the setting was really applied. It didn‘t work properly for me for days. I tried contacting twitch but their support is complete trash and they never even read my ticket. Eventually the setting was applied and I never touched it again.

Sadly that won‘t make previous emails appear but at least you can make sure you get all future mails.

Thanks, I’ll make sure to check that now!

If you're subscribed to Mike Shinoda on Twitch, check your e-mails for a download of today's track created entirely with random samples.

While making the track, Mike pulled up an old vinyl titled "Sex Explained For Children" to sample. Turns out this disc is the source of the talking in the Hybrid Theory era beat known as 'Goop.' The origin of those samples were one of the great mysteries in the Linkin Park world. Thanks to this track, we were finally able to solve it.

Firstly, I didn't receive this email and I've been subscribed to Mike since the first day. That's strange.

Secondly, didn't someone literally start a thread about the origin of that sample here very recently? Is there a chance that's not a coincidence???

Watching the PR02 show right now. Incredible performance. I am just a couple of songs in but that is probably my favorite HT era show we have. I only listened to it on TV speakers yet but the mix sounds incredible.

I haven’t gotten my box set yet, but this comment raised my hype level even more. I’m going to have to set aside a day and go through all the video material!

The reason I’m pointing this out is because that isn’t the case with the other album writing sessions imo.
I’d argue for songs like What We Don’t Know or Across the Line over In Between, Valentine’s Day, etc, and the same idea applies for the other albums.
Hybrid Theory just didn’t have a whole lot going for it with these other unheard tracks outside of maybe Carousel or And One.

See I get your point, but I have a soft spot for those two songs specifically lol.

Overall though, I know what you mean. Mike has gone on record as saying that the best songs from that era were the ones we already had, back when he realized PB was being treated as the holy grail of unreleased LP material. I think a lot of people thought about the amazing B-sides you mentioned and thought Mike may have just been downplaying it.

The reason is because LP just didn't type the right thing on the website. It's a mix between San Diego and Las Vegas that is on the DVD and a mix between San Diego and Las Vegas that is airing on Friday. Neither show is full 100%.

But it is a full PR02 show in the sense that every song is on there.

I’m anticipating them editing some things out, like the chaos on Runaway in SD, and Chester getting booed in LV after thanking security lol.
