Nobody's is one of those songs that sounded better when they did it live.

I still havent heard Lost but -lost- to Easier To Run, BTH and Numb they probably thought that having 4 soft songs on a nu metal album was a bad idea.

Yeah, for sure. Too many soft songs, and I know as an angsty teenager wanted the heavier shit 😀 but tbh I didnt like the live version of Nobodys listening, I prefer the album one 😀 what a polarizing song

I find it inferior to ETR honestly, but it's treally similar

The theme of the song is really similar, but Lost is much more depressing lyric-wise and that might be the reason why Lost was not on the album

I read up on Linkinpedia about "Figure.09" yesterday. In the Meteora booklet it is said that they swapped the original rap verses of the song for singing only to undo that change while in NYC "because it made the song more interesting". Until yesterday I never questioned it but then I realized that it was most likely not the case (conspiracy time :D).
What I THINK is far more likely than changing a fundamental part of a song during the mixing progress (the band themselves said it is extremely rare and stressful to record while mixing, which was true during that time) especially after they worked in the studio on the version with singing which they took to NYC is that Chester's sickness prevented them from finishing the singing verses. Pure speculation on my part but I can imagine them trying their hardest to finish up "Somewhere I Belong" because it was supposed to be the first single (and "From The Inside") left Chester too sick to record anymore vocals. Therefore they had to react to that and changed the verses back so Mike could finish them.

The devil lies in the details: "Somewhere I Belong" and "From The Inside" were finished as intended but "Figure.09" (by my theory) couldn't get finished the way they wanted to. Therefore they had to go back to an "inferior" version which is something they probably wouldn't ever say upfront because after all Meteora was the album they wanted to be perfect.

Anyway, long ramble, judging by everything we know that seems more likely to me than what "officially" got said about this episode. Maybe M20 will shine a new light on it or I'm completely wrong. If someone appreciates these thoughts it might be someone on here, though :D.

Hey that's interesting train of thought. Could be true, we'll probably never know. Never thought about it that way. Cool!

  3. I was not interested in STP. It wasnt my taste, but I knew Chester enjoyed the hell out of it. Dead by Sunrise was a bit of a letdown at the time. Some songs were just too slow and some were not that interesting, unfortunately. But with that said, singles were great, some songs I still listen to frequently.

You’re welcome! What do you think about the album ? 😊

It's an enjoyable record, I liked Amends more, however its still pretty good, not gonna lie. Wake me and Hole however are both dissapointing in my opinion. But Believe Me, Drag, Saturation are awesome! I'd say it's like 7,5/10. Amends was 9/10.

  5. what do you mean by In Time parts in Wake me?

Personal track by track ratings with small comments:

    1) Saturation: love Chester’s screams, the instrumental is very early 2000s rock. Solid opener. 8/10.

    2) Starting To Fly: sounds fire, once you get used to Sean’s vocals. Chester’s voice in the bridge is a bit too effected. 7,5/10.

    3) Be your man: call it Dead by Daze or Grey by Sunrise, really cool ballad that could fit on Out of Ashes. A bit too repetitive. Aptly renamed after the actual lyrics of the song. 7,5/10.

    4) Holding You: best song on the album, Dave Navarro slays with a phenomenal solo. Sounds like Kings of Chaos. 8,5/10.

    5) Hole: song is really good, but that intro is so weird and quite creepy and the ending “hole yeah” sounds artificial. 7,5/10.

    6) Drag: banger, perfect instrumental, very LP-ish. 8/10.

    7) Believe me: really good rendition, more powerful. Richard Patrick is the MVP, his vocals are perfectly complimentary to Chester’s. 8/10.

8 ) Anything Anything: good instrumental but the vocals are too slow at the point they get almost dull. 6,5/10.

    9) Spin: proof that miracles exist, they turned the original mess into a really solid Alice In Chains - esque dark ballad. Some of Chester’s vocals on this one have always been quite strange. 7,5/10.

    10) Wake me: nice closing track, the In Time parts are surprisingly fitting. Not one of the better songs but nice. 7/10.
