Agreed, would have been insane to have the chester show where he sang.

Yeah and they have the DVD of it according to Amir. They could have ripped the audio and mastered it. Would have been amazing.

  2. I agree that they definitely would have been way more respected and probably much bigger if they had continued making albums like ATS. Would have been on a level like Radiohead, Muse, etc., bands like those. LT really was a big step back in a lot of ways. They went back to usual song structures, similar styles that were seen on their earliest albums, albeit differently done, but still. They did go for a way more mainstream appeal with that album for sure. People always used to say that they hated the first 6 songs on LT but liked the other 6, the ones that were more experimental. LT could have been a much different album but they chose to not really follow the folk sound ultimately and it only seeped it's way into the album very mildly on a few songs. If they had gone that direction in full and kept the writing style of ATS, they would have done much more. After that they did the Steve Aoki stuff (1 of the 2 tracks not coming out until 2015 but still was created at the same time), which was super mainstream at the time because EDM was huge in 2012/2013. They then did THP which was so far out of left field, people say it was like a metal version of ATS, but it's not IMO. It was bland and forgettable and I feel most people in the scope of music agree. The only people that probably ever think about the album nowadays are hardcore LP fans. They once again could have done more but it didn't happen, and coming after LT, I'm not sure if it even would have worked. By 2015, LP was really fading in the U.S. public eye (they will always be huge in Europe despite everything) and they probably wanted to gain it back, so they decided to write a commercially appealing album with a sound that was huge on radio at the time, even working with song writers and stuff to ensure that the songs would be hits. Keep in mind, it's all my opinion here. After the album was released, I feel like many fans saw through it and even though it hit #1, it faded from the public eye pretty quickly in the U.S. (Heavy was starting to fade from the radio). I think that if Chester hadn't killed himself, the album would have definitely faded away with 2017 and I don't think they would be the kind of legacy act they are considered right now in 2020. Chester's death kind of catapulted that, shocking the music world, with resulted in almost all of their singles becoming Gold or higher in the months following his death. I think if LP continues on in the years to come, they COULD potentially gain back the status they had during the ATS era, if they craft it very carefully. But they'll likely now always be remembered for their huge 2000's hit singles and remain a sort of legacy act that they are now, I don't think this would have been the case if Chester hadn't killed himself but he kind of cemented them by doing it.

Surprisingly enough the Meteora photos are in really good quality.

By the way Garret you know about any MTM or Chester pics that would benefit of this process?

Not really. Most MTM ones are good quality. There are about 5 low resolution ones. Houdini House ones were the best from Kerrang but they’re impossible to find. They have released it from 2017.

Hahahaha they are the tipical 90' metal band photos when they try to look cool and angry

I know haha. I like them but they are dated a bit. Which is normal. It’s just funny to look back.

I think the Meteora photoshoot ones still hold up even today. Aren’t cringe at all to me. And of course the MTM ones are the best to me.

He also sang someday soon live. There is a clip out there that I haven't been able to find for years.

They should have released that show on Time Capsule instead of the Casper, WY show.

I remember Mike is who posted about Magic Doors and then he uploaded on YouTube himself. I remember that day because it came out of nowhere in between the USA arena tour in 2008 and the summer Europe tour.

I don't think he did any other songs with SOB in 2007. There are videos of Bloc Party and stuff on the tour but without Mike.

Ahh that makes sense. Damn. So the YouTube rip is all we ever got?

And about the PR07 stuff, I was actually at the Hartford, Connecticut show and Apathy was there (he is from Connecticut) and he came out and did Bloc Party and a few others with SOB. However, the only Mike tracks were RTN and STN, I’m not even sure if he did RTN that day or not. But he definitely did STN as I used to have it recorded years ago (been lost many years ago). But yeah I think it’s safe to say Mike only did those 2 songs ever vocally on the tour.

  7. I want to use this thread to list all possible vocal features from Mike that he has done with S.O.B. over the years, not listing any Fort Minor stuff or tracks he produced/remixed. Solely vocal features. If anyone knows more, please list them.

    STUDIO

    - Drop: Released on Rapology 14, which also featured a Xero track, Mike can be heard doing a small laugh at the beginning of this track. While not a verse or anything, it still counts IMO.

    - Second To None: Released on Transformers 1 Soundtrack/Razor Tag/Reseda Beach, Mike raps a full verse on this track, as well as does the chorus.

    - Hey You: Released on Razor Tag, Mike sings the chorus on this track. On the Reseda Beach version of Razor Tag, Mike is heard saying ''I love this beat'' before the track kicks in.

    - Journey: Released on Razor Tag, Mike is heard on the chorus, using vocals from There They Go by Fort Minor.

    - Magic Doors: Released mysteriously online in 2008, little is known about this track, other than the fact that it's a remix of a Portishead song and it features DJ Green Lantern (who also DJ'ed  We Major and Razor Tag), Mike and Styles Of Beyond. Mike raps a full verse here. The song has never been released in a higher quality, unfortunately, and like I said, little info is known about the song.

    LIVE

    - PR07. Mike routinely came out with S.O.B. during their set and did Second To None and Remember The Name. Possibly more, but their is scare info and no real good recordings of any of his performances.

  8. I want to use this thread to list every single possible thing Chester has done with Julien-K. We know he executive produced Death To Analog, but I am talking specifically about vocal features from him solely.

    STUDIO

    - Maestro (2004 Snippet): Released on Time Capsule, I feel like you can hear Chester in the chorus and some other parts. Could be wrong.

    - Shaking (2004 Demo): Released on Time Capsule, according to Ryan, when he listened to this track again after not hearing it for years, he said he can still hear Chester singing in the high parts in the chorus because he was teaching him how to hit those notes with this song. Is he in the song? Maybe, it's hard to tell, but the fact Ryan said it leads me to believe possibly he is.

    - Maestro (Rough Mix): Released on Time Capsule, I think you can still hear Chester, though not as much as the demo snippet from 2004.

    - Technical Difficulties: Released on Death To Analog/Transformers 1 Soundtrack/Etc., as you can tell, the ''we are'' section in this track is different than the Time Capsule demo and rough mix, which has a digital voice saying it. During a Facebook live chat, Ryan said he was happy that Chester came in and ''did his thing'' for the final version. So is this Chester screaming we are on this version? We don't know for sure, it's been speculated for years, but I think probably since the Time Capsule versions are so different.

    - Maestro: You can hear Chester on the demo snippet I believe, and I think you can still hear him in this final version. Not sure though 100%.

    - Maestro (Brandon Belsky Remix): People have said for years you can hear Chester in this remix. I believe it. Sounds like him.

When it comes to live tracks, he performed with Julien-K a bunch.

    LIVE

    - 2006.04.22 - Tempe, AZ, Club Tattoo Party. Julien-K's first show, Chester sat side stage the entire time (while wasted LOL) and came out during Technical Difficulties to do his ''we are'' scream.

    - 2006.12.29 - Huntington Beach, CA. Chester did Maestro and Technical Difficulties with the band.

    - PR07. Instead of listening tons of shows from the tour, he came out on Technical Difficulties a bunch for his we are part, there is even pro-shot audio of it.

    - PR07 Chicago. Chester filled in for Ryan at this show and performed their full set. He also swapped in Maestro for Systeme De Sexe which wasn't being played in the set at that time.

    - 2008.05.10 - Tempe, AZ, Club Tattoo Party. Chester came out during Tehnical Difficulties with Julien-K.

    - 2009.04.08 - The Roxy. Chester came out and did Maestro and Technical Difficulties with the band.

    - 2011.11.12 - Stars of the Season. Released on Time Capsule, he did I'll Try Not To Destroy You and Palm Springs Reset with the band.

    - 2012.01.21 - The Roxy. Chester came out and did I'll Try Not To Destroy You and Palm Springs Reset once again with the band.

  9. The SSMF 2013 rehearsal is interesting to me. First debut ever of BID Reggae Version? Pretty cool. Wish we had a recording. Not to mention the set was probably cool. The 2009 rehearsals were probably dope too. Katy Perry cover? By Myself in 2009?

I’ve kinda stayed out of this one because I wasn’t really sure what to think about it and, if I’m entirely honest, I didn’t really care much about this project.

But at this point it’s pretty clear and evident what the case is and I cannot believe how much of a shitshow this is. Not only does the music production kinda suck, every aspect of this project has turned to rot.

I believe this project started with the intention of honoring Chester in the right way, but ultimately it’s become something that leaves a stain on his legacy. There’s so much to look at, from stealing photos to blocking fans on Twitter. Get over yourselves.

The LP feature thing is absolutely ridiculous. Are they taking us for morons? If you’re trying to get people on a project meant the memorialize the work you’ve made with a brother, why go to artists who a) meant nothing more to Chester than “I like some of their songs” and b) who are looking for a chance to redeem themselves for the acid they spewed in the past.

I don’t think I’ll ever listen to this album. I simply don’t care and don’t want to give them my attention or care for any amount of time anymore.

I just gained a new found love and respect for you. Sorry for everything I ever said or did to you that was douchey in the past.

Because Chester is gone and so anything he's involved in has skyrocketed in value, so a band that was associated with him nearly 3 decades ago feels like they can make a nice, quick profit under the guise of honoring him/preserving his legacy. Maybe it started with good intentions, but it has absolutely spiraled from there and is one of the most blatant cashgrabs I've ever seen, especially from a so-called "brotherhood"

100% agreed. One of the best posts I have seen in a long time.

Im not even gonna argue with you about GD anymore, we are like cats and dogs, however I like to think the non casuals will remember Chester for more than hybrid theory and meteora, all the casuals seem to know about OML as well as all us hardcore fans. Just my 2 cents.

OML is still LP so I agree. His career with LP is what will be remembered in history. Same goes for the rest of the LP guys.

funny how suddenly there are so many photos of Chester with GD in this footage but yet they chose a photo from LP for their promo merch lmfao

I know haha. He got called out for the LPU photo so now he changed it up. Why would he even consider using a 2007 LP photo anyways? Has zero relevancy to Grey Daze.

I think he might also be remembered for briefly fronting another mega-popular band with STP but I agree that the first thing anybody is ever going to think with Chester is Linkin Park.

Yeah but that 5 song EP wasn’t shit and he only fronted them for like 3 years. STP will be remembered for Scott and their earlier years. 20 years from now, people will remember Chester for Hybrid Theory and possibly the other LP albums after it. Definitely nothing after MTM or ATS. Sean is delusional. Grey Daze was a nobody band in terms of the scope of the music world. But he seems to think it’s something big.

Its kinda exhausting arguing about it all isn't it.

Im gonna just let it all slide now tbh, I just cant be bothered. The sad thing is the music is getting overlooked a little because of it all. More Chester in my book is always a good thing, even though its old.

Except I’m not on your side about it. That’s why it’s so annoying. If people don’t like it, they don’t have to. It’s not going to stop them from releasing the album either way, so you’ll be able to enjoy it even if people don’t like it.
