LPLStaff Posted Monday at 06:22 PM Posted Monday at 06:22 PM Take a look at the LPTV for "Let You Fade" and check out all of the various versions the song went through before the band settled on the final! Quote
rd1994 Posted Monday at 06:35 PM Posted Monday at 06:35 PM We really really need all those LYF versions sooner rather than later lol Quote
silverwing Posted Monday at 06:39 PM Posted Monday at 06:39 PM Sounds like the Primo / I'll Be Gone situation Went from the experimental version to the more "banger" version Quote
Sukotto Posted Monday at 08:39 PM Posted Monday at 08:39 PM Can’t wait til 2044 to hear the demo Quote

Agree 1000% Primo was superior than it's LT counterpart. I'll rather listen to Primo than I'LL BE GONE. That's what LIVING THINGS supposed to sound like. Quote

LPLStaff Posted Tuesday at 12:26 PM Author Posted Tuesday at 12:26 PM They really messed up on Primo. But, LT is all condensed songs - it reallyy doesn't make sense to throw Primo in the middle of it. It's an ATS-style jam. What a fork in the road to encounter... you have a 6 minute song but everything else on the album is short and you didn't pick the song for the previous album. But it's a great song, so what do you do? I'd probably vote to put it on LT as it is, and it'd be a big stand out track. Similarly if you did that, you could have had the long Tinfoil/Powerless track too. "It was a really old demo, TINFOIL is the intro of it, and it turned into this epic 6 minute long thing." Glad we got the song... imagine if there are more songs like Primo sitting on the shelf. Re: Let You Fade. The original demo sounds pretty....lackluster. They really got this right with the final version which kicks ass on the deluxe edition. Let You Fade is a banger. The acoustic one does sound interesting and would be nice to hear one day but in this case they hit a home run on the song. It's similar to a Messenger-style ATS ending (still think Symphonies of Light Reprise would have been cool after Messenger, in the same realm). Quote
Trumtram Posted Tuesday at 12:51 PM Posted Tuesday at 12:51 PM Yeah, the first iteration of LYF sounds super bland. Quote
Fleur de Lys Posted Tuesday at 03:15 PM Posted Tuesday at 03:15 PM I agree that they chose exactly right with the released version of Let You Fade. It's feels special, original. I still would love to hear a more stripped down version too. Quote

Riguardo a Let You Fade. La demo originale suona piuttosto... deludente. Hanno davvero fatto centro con la versione finale, che spacca nell'edizione deluxe. Let You Fade è una bomba. I'm still convinced that, at some point, the band took an old demo, an old refrain they worked on during the One More Light era, re-adapting the rhythm, lyrics, and timbre. This would also explain the short time it took to condense a new version of the track (starting from October 2024, when the track still had its original layout). Here's the observation I did about Let You Fade at the time of its release, and the reference to the live performance the band posted during the recording of OML in 2015/16. live from FB from OML era: https://www.facebook.com/share/v/16EEqvAWXn/ [REMOVED AFTER LYF RELEASE] Quote

I'll never forget one specific YouTube comment from probably a decade ago/shortly after LPU XIII came out saying Owen Pallett heavily improved upon the song because the demo sounded 'off'. Like, I can understand their perspective but I remember reading that person's take and it came off quite aggressive as if Primo was crappy material. I've always loved the demo since listening to it at release on Soundcloud, and Mike's comments throughout the years praising the demo over the album version makes me like it even more. JerseyShore Posted 14 hours ago Posted 14 hours ago Primo was my son's "nap song". I think I listened to it everyday for 2 years. He was always passed out by the end. Now my daughter's nap song is The Emptiness Machine. And driving song. And anytime song. I had to listen to it 3x on the way to daycare this morning. 10/10 would recommend. Quote

It kinda makes sense to have a song like Primo at the end of LT, its basically the same case with Little Things being the closer of MTM it has elements from every song. Primo should have been the final LT song, it wouldn't really matter since they didnt play the whole album probably Primo would never be played live. Quote
