What if it was an old OML demo?

 

As soon as I had the chance to listen to it, from the harmonic progression a melody immediately came to mind, a primordial demo shared by the band in 2015 in the OML pre-sessions - LINK BELOW

 

I don't know if it's a pure coincidence (harmonic progression, notes and tempo) or if the piece has actually been reworked.

 

The fact is that we are faced with the first piece of this new era that, in the metrics, presents "cut" bars just like it happens with almost all the pieces of that period.

Perhaps it could be a track recorded as a demo at the time and revised over the years.

 

The demo is District 108.

Obviously it's just food for thought.

It does sound strikingly similar, the progression mostly, i would say that it could be a OML demo, but the only way we could confirm it is by asking Mike

I kindly ask you to listen carefully the first 20/30 seconds of that video, focusing on both keys parts (the high notes). It's the same notes progression you can listen allora on the live version (around 1:10 min of the video I share you below)

Great song but if all those synths were mixed higher this would be a 10/10, it's why I like the live version even more. The mixing this era has been a bit puzzling. Too many songs have way too many elements buried in the mix, stuff that would make the song stand out so much more. Over Each Other is the biggest perpetrator of this tbh, it has so much cool stuff but it's all so buried in the mix that it ends up sounding a bit generic compared to the live version. Even the scratches at the end of Overflow are straight up inaudible compared to when they play it live.
