LeonardoMF93 Posted January 7 Posted January 7 I find it funny how Mike makes it increasingly clear that he doesn’t like the cover band called Hybrid Theory 😅 Quote

Hybrid1988 Posted January 8 Posted January 8 It’s easy to forget how local my favorite band is until Mike drops Dan’s Subs into an interview. I used to work at a place nearby that catered them all the time. I knew right away where that sandwich was from based on the foil before they even mentioned it hahaha. I Must’ve eaten like 100 of those sandwiches. Quote
LPRGH Posted January 8 Posted January 8 It was honestly a really funny and amazing interview. I loved it! Quote

vinifeijo Posted January 8 Posted January 8 I didn't interpret him not liking Hybrid Theory cover band... you guys read what you wanted there. He simply said the guy is almost like a Chester's doppelganger. Feels even more like a compliment even, cause that's the goal of a cover band. Quote
Trumtram Posted January 8 Posted January 8 That was a super enjoyable interview. Great chemistry between the two. Quote

It’s not the first time Mike has commented on the tribute band, and I found it curious that he mentioned it spontaneously. The fact is, Mike seems too polite to criticize anyone in front of the cameras, but I’ve never seen him make a comment genuinely praising their work. Whenever asked, he avoids responding directly. This comment about the vocalist being a doppelganger of Chester comes across as either a critique or discomfort within this whole context, even if it wasn’t his intention. It’s worth noting that when Mike was directly asked about them previously, he said they were good, but in a rather awkward way. He ended by saying very politely that an artist should aim to create new things, learn from other artists, and strive to do better. Don’t get me wrong. I don’t think he hates this cover band, especially because he could easily put an end to their work if he wanted to. I just think it’s more about a sense of discomfort. What’s curious is the fact that he mentioned he could invite the vocalist to the band. It makes it clear that he has been following their social media, as many people have suggested this. Even so, this interview is excellent for this to be the only point of discussion. Quote

On one hand, I think he doesn't feel in power to censor anyone, on the other, having a guy cosplay your dead best friend, even though as a tribute... PS: After watching the segment, you're all such a drama queens, he hasn't said anything remotely controversial. Edited January 8 by bloodbath Quote

Wings are my all time favorite thing to eat 😋 too bad that recipe will forever be a family secret. It’s probably made with 10% luck, 20% skill, and some salt. Quote

I know, it wasn’t a big deal. Honestly, it would be weird for Mike to make a harsh comment about someone’s work. I just shared how I saw it. No need to keep saying what I think since I already wrote it here. Quote

He literally said "I don't like it" in another interview, but he didn't single out that band specifically. He was talking about watching any LP cover bands that include a vocalist who tries their best to sound and look just like Chester, of which there are more than one, and how they quickly shot down any thoughts of getting a Chester soundalike to bring back LP. He ended up saying "That's good for their band and what they do, but I don't want that in our band". I get the feeling that he personally doesn't like the concept of cover bands at all, since there was also an interview where he implied that if a band is good they should tour on their own music instead of someone else's, while at the same time I'm sure he appreciates the fact that he's able to say that LP even have tribute/cover bands. So he's never going to be so blunt as to say "I don't like cover bands that play our music", but he has made it pretty clear over the last few years that he isn't a fan. Well, it seems that whenever they are playing at big events, they do get paid royalties from the event organizers, so I guess you can't hate making passive income, lol. That being said, obviously, being on tour, it's not for him to comment on tribute bands. Hybrid Theory gets a lot of attention because they are very large-scale for a tribute band (which you would only see for bands that are fully defunct). I think mike thinks this shouldn't be a topic he has to address constantly. What I find weirder is Hybrid Theory not publicly acknowledging that the band is back and continuing with their tribute with business as usual (I'm not saying they would/should stop, but they should acknowledge the band is alive and around). That's because these guys started to believe in themselves a little too much. For them it's all about the money. Linkin Park being back is something they did not anticipate, so they're scared their income will suffer from it. Quote
Yucker Posted January 14 Posted January 14 This tribute are going to play this March in one of the biggest arenas in Portugal with Grey Daze (with the new singer), so they are very big, even for a tribute band. MEO Blueticket - Hybrid Theory & Grey Daze - Tribute a Chester For example, LP themselves played there back in 2003 Linkin Park Live - 2003.09.09 - Lisboa, Portugal - Linkinpedia and in 2023 I was at the same venue in a festival with Papa Roach and Slipknot.
