Jen Posted August 31, 2013 Posted August 31, 2013 http://kroq.cbslocal.com/2013/08/30/stone-...ise-ep-release/ In response to Scott Weiland's lawsuit against the band, they have officially changed their name to Stone Temple Pilots with Chester Bennington. Quote
Skipees Posted August 31, 2013 Posted August 31, 2013 STPWCB. They already using this name since Chester joined, for the EP, Youtube videos titles, posters, etc.. Quote
RogueSoul Posted August 31, 2013 Posted August 31, 2013 I thought we knew this already...? At least we know it's not going to ever be STP again. Quote
Jen Posted August 31, 2013 Author Posted August 31, 2013 Apparently it wasn't an official thing until now, and that was what the lawsuit was based on, by changing it officially, Scott can no longer tell them they can't use it. Quote

He still can claim his rights about the name from the rest of STP members. But I think that the thing is that Chester not using the name. Quote
maik_gianino Posted August 31, 2013 Posted August 31, 2013 (edited) They will have to change the FB and Twitter accounts then. Because Scott will gain some money for every litle mistake of differences. Edited August 31, 2013 by maik_gianino Quote
Numbrocker Posted August 31, 2013 Posted August 31, 2013 It wasn't until now that it's legally STPWCB. Remember Scott has been saying for months that the DeLeo Brothers and Eric can't use the name. Personally I'm frustrated that this is how it ended up. I know checking the STP boards that this is huge deal, but I wish that it was just STP. I hope Chester is getting some pleasure out of being in the band, and that the rest of the band is keeping him out of the drama. Quote
JZLP-Benningstrong Posted August 31, 2013 Posted August 31, 2013 It would be funny if Scott sticks with the original name and then he would use so there will be 2 STP's Quote
nikolajlaulp Posted August 31, 2013 Posted August 31, 2013 It would be funny if Scott sticks with the original name and then he would use so there will be 2 STP'sLike queensryche xD Quote
Jen Posted August 31, 2013 Author Posted August 31, 2013 It would be funny if Scott sticks with the original name and then he would use so there will be 2 STP's Oh but he "never tours as STP" but his current tour is called the Purple to the Core tour and he sings mostly STP songs. Quote
lpplus Posted August 31, 2013 Posted August 31, 2013 It would be funny if Scott sticks with the original name and then he would use so there will be 2 STP's STP with chester & STP without chester.it's good ,isn't it?! or STP without the rest of the band.which one? Quote
maik_gianino Posted August 31, 2013 Posted August 31, 2013 Imagine 2 bands like this: Stone Temple Pilots with Chester Bennington Stone Temple Pilots without Dean DeLeo, Robert DeLeo and Eric Kretz Quote
Jgrosk Posted August 31, 2013 Posted August 31, 2013 Big doubt, It's like to open new company and to call it "Apple with *something*", It's still the same name. He still can claim his rights about the name from the rest of STP members. But I think that the thing is that Chester not using the name. There is no doubt at all. When the members of Sublime reformed with a new singer they got sued over using the name Sublime, all the did was change their name to Sublime with Rome and that was the end of their legal troubles. There wasn't any legal troubles with Queen + Paul Rodgers either. Quote
Skipees Posted August 31, 2013 Posted August 31, 2013 If he will toured as STP he's taking his dignity to the bottom. Quote
RogueSoul Posted August 31, 2013 Posted August 31, 2013 Every time the STP lineup changes its gonna be STP w/o _____ with _____ Quote
anjum Posted August 31, 2013 Posted August 31, 2013 They should name it (Stone Temple Pilots - Scott Weiland) + Chester Bennington Quote
Skipees Posted August 31, 2013 Posted August 31, 2013 Or they can tour together as Stone Temple Pilots². Quote
[AndOne] Posted August 31, 2013 Posted August 31, 2013 I suspected that this name was their legal "loophole". I guess if you add something to an existing name works as long as it's not a trademark. EDIT: Apparently you can't copyright band names, but you register it as a trademark. Quote
RogueSoul Posted August 31, 2013 Posted August 31, 2013 The thread title should be changed to "Make new names for STP" Quote

lpplus Posted August 31, 2013 Posted August 31, 2013 (edited) "Stone Temple Pilots with Chester Bennington" is too long.I think "Stone Temple Pilots with Chester" is better Edited August 31, 2013 by lpplus Quote
[AndOne] Posted August 31, 2013 Posted August 31, 2013 the name "Chester" is way not big enough to leave out Bennington, he's not Elvis. All the people would be like Chester who? With the full name it's easier to recognize/to look up the name. Quote
lpplus Posted August 31, 2013 Posted August 31, 2013 and 90% of people are too lazy to read the full name. Quote
Skipees Posted August 31, 2013 Posted August 31, 2013 "Stone Temple Pilots with Chester Bennington" is too long.I think "Stone Temple Pilots with Chester" is better Just imagine how many times you will hear "Chester who?". His name is not that unique or associated exclusively with him. Quote
