  1. ...then why are you shooting him down? lol

&I agree with COG, POA has pretty much been played for the entirety of the past two years. We've seen plenty of it, it was in every setlist.

I'd honestly choose NMS over POA in the list, that would of made more sense.

Yeah but this list I think are about songs that LP have been playing recently, so NMS would not fit in this list.

  2. I'm getting a little nervous and I don't know why. I'm worried they've gone too heavy and I've mellowed in my old age, I very rarely listen to the heavier stuff I liked when I was a teenager.

I know I'm probably being stupid as it's LP, even when I don't like it much, I still really like it (LT).

    I've got pre-album jitters!

At least these articles are backing up Mikes claims, I was beginning to get annoyed with his comments.

Pre album jitters, I know what you mean. All this hype building up to the album release is always exciting and nerve racking at the same time because we never know what to expect with an LP album, all we know is that it will be heavy but that doesn't necessarily mean I will like it.

  3. Great interview. My favourite part was "It’s the sound of a band who have something to prove, and will punch you in your dick if you refuse to listen to them. When I meet Mike Shinoda at the offices of his record label, however, he seems anything but ready to punch me in the dick." Haha

  4. If Macklemore was on the bridge the shit would ROLL lol

Haha agree, sadly it seems that's just how popular music works these days. Collaborate with a well known or mainstream artist and the song goes straight up the charts and it gets played constantly on the radio.

I have always seen LP as one of those bands that sell many albums but not singles, so it doesn't surprise me that GATS is not doing that great on the charts.

  5. After listening 10 times or so, with and without headphones, I think it's ok. Not bad. Not amazing. Just ok. As of now, I'd score it a 7.5/10. It's obviously going to get high praise online though for it being heavier than most of their more recent material.

Can't fault them for not trying new things. 1min30sec intro (longest ever?). Vocals from another artist. Damn bold.

The song is actually not as heavy as I thought it would be. I agree with people describing it as aggressive and in your face rather than heavy. And this song is going to be amazing live (think about the moshes).

I've always liked the lead singles more than most. I thought WID was one of the best songs on M2M. I thought The Catalyst was one of the better songs on ATS. And yes, I even thought BID was one of the better songs on LT. For me, this is the first time in a while where I don't think the lead single will be among the best songs.

Frankly, the song just sounds bland at certain parts for a single. And a bit too similar to other songs I've heard from other bands in the same/similar genre.

I understand Rakim is viewed as a legend. But someday, I think Mike will be also. I believe Mike could have delivered something as good or better during his part. Instead of Rakim's part, I would have loved to hear a 30 second rapping bridge by Mike and then a 30 second solo by Brad. Yes, the standout parts by Brad on the outro are awesome (albeit a bit similar to some of his recent live outros for Faint, etc), but I believe he could have cooked up something even better during Rakim's part (a la In Pieces).

The real positive that I take away from this song is what it potentially means for the album. LT started to bring back the energy and more prominent guitar parts into the mix that weren't really there on ATS. GATS continues that trend. The rawness in production is closer to M2M. That's exciting. I've been waiting a long time to hear Brad do what I thought he would do after M2M which is take his guitar playing to another level. Based on GATS, sounds like that's still a possibility. So from an instrumental standpoint, I love GATS. I just think from a songwriting/melodic perspective, there will be better songs on this album.

It turns out Mike wasn't just blowing smoke. He's serious about wanting to revive Rock music in a down time. I hope the band pulls it off in a way that only they can do.

Lastly, if this song is indeed an indication of the direction of the album, I expect to see some ex fans or old fair-weather fans who haven't been paying attention for the last few albums popping up again.

You made some good points there.

Not sure if I like the song. As some people have said it has that punk rock feel to it, I've never really been into that type of music so hopefully it will grow on me after a few more listens.

Nonetheless still excited for the album.

  6. I was at the Fairfax show. Great show with lots of energy from all the acts. My how things have changed in the 10 years that have passed. P.O.D. and Hoobastank were at the height of their popularity and Story of the Year was a fresh face on the scene.

I know right. Don't follow POD or Hoobastank so not really sure how they are going at the moment. But for LP to be still going strong 10 years on is pretty amazing IMO.

  7. It was good to see LP bring back some of the older songs. Hope to see some more in their next touring cycle.

It was a shame In My Remains did not get played more in the set lists as that was one of my favs on the album. Slightly disappointed we didn't get to hear the remaining songs off the album live.

  8. We will see if that really works. Mike and Chester both said Linkin Park has wanted to do that since at least 2008 and that's never happened except for New Divide. They wanted to write a few songs, put out an EP, tour, write a few more, another EP, etc. That hasn't happened.

I thought the interview above was referring to STP not LP.

  9. Happy for Chester that he is now the lead singer for a band that he grew up listening to, however not really a fan of this type of music. Not sure how this will work out in the long run with Chester having to juggle both bands with writing, touring, etc.

On another note people can't honestly expect Chester's voice to sound like it did 10 years ago. All the screaming he does and just the way he sings generally on most songs I think would definitely have affected his voice in some way.
