  1. It's funny that not long ago in 2015, Mike flat out said Linkin Park is a rock band but they draw influence from other genres such as electronic and hip-hop. At the core they are a rock band and always have been. Anybody who thinks otherwise is an idiot since Mike flat out said so. That's why I hate this new single and album. You could have went ''pop'' and still kept the rock backbone. Don't remember who you are at the end of the day. It's ok to experiment, after all, MTM and LT are my favorite albums. But don't completely abandon yourself for the sake of trying to sell albums or appeal to a 12 year old age group.

That's the only thing that really bugs me. I am not suprised by this change of sound, since this is exactly the change I expected after Living Things. But then we got Mike saying how he wanted to bring rock back and didn't wanted to follow what is hot on radio. Then we got The Hunting Party, which followed that statement. Then I was suprised they worked again with Steve Aoki, because that dance edm thing was still pretty hot, but I didn't mind it as side project. But I just wish they would stop making certain statements in popular media, if they are gonna do the complete opposite in a few years.

  2. Linkin Park is Linkin Park.

Not defending Heavy because it's your right to have an opinion and not like the song at all, I'm just saying that LP has said more than once throughout the years that they don't take anyone's expectations about what LP is supposed to sound like into account when making music. If they happen to lose fans along the way, then that's something they're willing to risk. I think Mike even literally said that.

Agreed, I have read so many comments about this song being 'not Linkin Park', while they have said countless times that they don't want to be put into a certain box when it comes to genre. At this point they could turn 180 and release an acoustic polka, folk and country album as next record

Song is really catchy. I really like the lyrics and the instrumental while it's not amazing, it sounds good and has really good production. I like Rob's drums in the bridge and Brad's guitar at the end is pretty cool. The no introduction is just a mainstream pop thing unfortunately. While I like the song, I don't want a whole album of Heavy. That would suck. I would still like the album but it would definitely go down as my least favorite. So I hope that there is more energy in some of the other songs.

I also don't want a full album of Heavy so I hope it being the core is more theme wise than soundwise. I also hope the rest of the album isn't so radio ready and also has an intro/outro to the songs. They can cut those for radio, but the album itself shouldn't have all under 3 minute songs.

  3. I can't seem to find a reason they would go for this sound, they already have an enormous fanbase, they can do whatever they want, experiment with all sorts of elements and what not and people are gonna support it. I mean, maybe they did it this way because they actually like it but I don't buy it. I don't know.

If we have to believe the teasers they released before they dropped Heavy, they want to take some risks this record. By making the poppiest song they could make, aswell as experimenting and making the weirdest song they ever made. So If we have to believe them on their word, this album could be a rollercoaster with every song being different in it's own right. But we'll see.

  4. I think they just wanted to try something new :)

This whole album feels like them trying new things and working with outside writers was something new

Yeah I think the record may surprise, I feel it could be an unexpected rollercoaster. I am not against them trying new things though, just neef to get Used to it, I guess
  5. I am not mad about the approach, but I don't get why they needed to hire/collab with some other songwriters, especially when they hire songwriters who work with Britney, Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez, no offence to Justin Tranter etc. but if I look lyrically at the song, I really don't expect them to have collaborate with a 3rd party for it.

But I can't say I hate it, and I actually dig it very much after a few listens

  6. What the hell? Are they seriously doing a "collaboration" with Mercedes for the music video? You can't tell me you don't lose some kind of artistic integrity by selling advertising spots in your music video to a car manufacturer.

I guess the huge success of the GATS video made them realise how awesome partnering up with a random company for a freaking music video is.

Tbh, their visuals might only get better for it. Beside a few exceptions, there are not much videos by them past their 3rd album that I watch. I feel they actually had to come up with a concept because of the collabo with Mercedes, rather than recording them in some studio setting with Kiiara with a funny effect or whatever.

  7. I am a bit torn at the moment. Overall their leadsingles are pretty hit and miss for me. Whether I talk about Burn It Down, The Catalyst or in this case Heavy, they ended up being my least favorite track on their respective albums. I like this, probably grow to love this. But I am almost certain that the actual album will be much better and interesting. But we'll see.

  8. I can see now why the pods were in the initial six songs, could you imagine if over six months all we got were the 3 pods, it would ruin a lot of hype.

True, but I still wish they would have waited with the physical CD until all songs were revealed, since I would love to have this one on CD rather than the 3 pods

  9. Really insightful

    • The band's least favorite song as a collective is 'Easier To Run'... Mike thinks it's melodramatic.

Sad they think about it that way, it is literally one of my favourites, but yeah that is more of a personal reason. I am curious about the next album and process on social media, will be interesting.

  10. So, my subscription still has some months left, so not renewing yet. I am not liking this plot twist though. I love to collect the LPU CD's, and it is a challenge since I have just been a LPU member for a few years. But now they give 6 tracks on CD (or digital) and just share the rest digitally. I guess I have to deal.
