Also, in a recent interview Chester said that they'll play Cure For The Itch (he called it Session haha) like the version on the record.

It's a really good and energetic video in my opinion, they really rock out. Especially Rob and Mike. But it kind of bothers me how perfect this would be for Rebellion... or just one of the other heavy songs.

Okay, a lot of technical difficulties with the new gear. But I gotta say, I fucking love the new guitar sound.

 

Finally the guitars sound big and distorted again. I don't know if Brad switched from Randall, but the distortion doesn't sound as thin and digital as it's been sounding since MtM. Maybe he is using the Orange or Engl from the studio now? Maybe it's just the mix. But I like that the guitars are so up front, it's the same in the fan recordings from Tucson.

 

EDIT: Mesa Boogie maybe? Mike got feedback from a MB combo at the beginning of Faint.

 

LOL, epic fail on the new guitar tech's part. Mike's guitar wasn't working at the start of the song, and as soon as he fixed it, Brad's quit working and didn't come back until the song was almost over. First song of your first show as the new guy, and that happens? Ouch.

 

 

 

The transition into Numb/Encore from the end of that sounded REALLY abrupt, like something skipped. Hmm.

 

And FYI, that medley is lyrically a combination of Wretches and Kings/Remember the Name/Skin to Bone (Recharged), but MUSICALLY it's a combination of Wretches and Kings/Skin to Bone (album version)/Remember the Name/In My Remains. VERY cool!

 

 

Rob's been doing gallops on Bleed it Out for years with a single pedal. Probably not actually using the double pedal for that one.

 

You are right, I had not noticed that.

 

And yeah, he is obviously using a volume pedal for some of Brad's parts in GATS. The way Brad's guitar faded in at the end of the bridge makes me think he had it pushed down until he noticed.

Haha, Rob is using the double pedal in the main rhythm of Bleed It Out now. Cool. There's no stopping him now!

I definitely think some things where lost in translation here. I think maybe they asked him to play on Guilty All The Same initially, but he wouldn't touch it. And now he's on Rebellion.

This album will be good. I love this raw production, it's really cool to hear the band this punk-rock for once. I can feel the human element! I'm glad they didn't go for the bro-metal option, with typical heavy low-tempo songs and "I'll fuck you up" lyrics. I think this energy could be really interesting with the dynamic of Chester and Mike on other songs. Promising.

 

I don't really consider this heavy, it's more energetic, really "Refused"-like. Screaming is heavy, so I can see why they opted for leaving it out here and just keeping it aggressive. Also, one of LP's big strengths is their ear for catchy melodies, and that is exactly what makes this song unique compared to other energetic rock bands. Because these types of songs don't usually contain a chorus this catchy. And it is really fucking catchy. Love it.

 

Also, the verse melody is pretty "folk"-sounding to me, which makes this song even more special. And the marching drums underneath it are cool.

 

Rob playing double pedal here for the first time ever. Awesome. Hope this is expanded upon in songs to come.

Two excellent studio bands that can't pull off their shit live.

 

...Opening for another excellent studio band that used to be pretty good at pulling off their shit live, but has strained their lead singer's voice to the point that he can't do 2 days of rehearsals without struggling for the next 3 consecutive shows.

I've never been much of a Thirty Seconds To Mars fan, but I just listened to some recent shows of theirs and it seems to me that Jared improved. He is singing more than I remember, and in generally he is not more off-key than Chester (which doesn't really say much, I know). I can't help but think that there are a lot of similarities between these bands live though. A lot of backing tracks, big choruses, a lot of oh-parts, a singer struggling with his pitch. I agree that all these bands are studio-bands, but it seems like a pretty good match.

Maybe he is saving his voice for the show tonight? Never heard him not screaming those parts.

 

Also, I really disagree with the way Pooch is mixing the guitars. Sometimes it's like he never even listened to albums. Mike's parts are so far down in the mix, they're almost not audible, which is a huge contrast to the mix on the studio version. He mixes it like Brad parts are lead parts, but I'll bet you that it would sound 10 times better if he mixed them equally. It would also give Chester a heavier foundation for his screams. Loud distorted guitars and screams just go well together. Anyway, I know he has been doing it this way for years, but it is just so evident in that video during Faint.

How is this not "confirming nothing"?

We're definitely going to have an album out, and we're going to keep touring now.

Stone Temple Pilots drummer Eric Kretz recently touched upon making the first full-length record with Chester Bennington as their vocalist.

 

"At this point we're, like, 'Okay, we need to try and make an album,' but Chester was going on tour with Linkin Park to Asia through the month of June. So it was, 'Okay, we've got so little time here,'" the drummer added.

It seems we are in for a STP album in 2014 and not just another EP, which is what was speculated earlier. So there's going to be two full-length Chester records in one year. Sounds good to me!

I think it is a bit rushed, too. I would have liked for them to wait until 2015 to release the album and tour, etc. But I guess the band wants to release music faster and tour less and less. LP's music always seems to be better when they take their time and let the music grow, etc. MTM and ATS both took a while to complete and they both are masterpieces. LT didn't take very long at all and it's not as good as those albums. I just hope we don't get another rushed album with a short tour, but it's starting to look that way.

I can't say agree. You can't really put a timeline like that on a creative process. In my experience, the best decisions in songwriting are the initial ones, and over-thinking can really hurt the outcome. I have a feeling that LP would do better if they went with their first thought on more occasions. This could be different from musician to musician, I'm just saying that time won't necessarily influence quality. If you take look at some of the most classic songs in rock-history, they come from albums that were released a year or maybe even a HALF year after the last one. The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, AC/DC, the list goes on.

He definitely moved more there, but that was not my point anyway. I was talking about his face. And maybe it's not new but to me it's gotten worse over the last couple of years and with a pro-shot showing it so clearly, I decided to take it up for discussion now.

Brad didn't jumped for years, check Given Up from MSG 2011, after a few seconds you can think he leaved the stage and Mike play instead of him.

 

Why are you so surprised? He's jumping from time to time, but this is not something new at all.

I'm very much aware of this, but it's just sad seeing him this emotionless in his face. Maybe he had a bad day, I just think it comes off slightly arrogant.

They obviously added a distortion-effect to Chester's mic in all the screaming parts. Sounds pretty cool to me. It's also on the chorus' of Given Up and it's still on when he says "Thank you very much" in the end of the video.

 

You can also hear this effect on other songs from the crowd recordings, so it seems to be on purpose.

 

On another note, I remember Brad once said that they're not idiots jumping around on stage anymore. That's cool with me, but one could also call someone an idiot when he does the exact opposite. You could at least show just a little bit of emotion when playing your songs, not just a straight face and a constant tongue out of you mouth? It doesn't seem like he cares about the (old) music anymore, and he plays it quite sloppy. It just kills part of the energy the other guys put into the show.

Chester was way off key, it was kind of hard to enjoy the chorus. I don't really think I like the melody either. It helped when Mike harmonized in the last chorus though. The arrangement is pretty generic and boring too from what I can tell. But the verses definitely sound awesome.

Nice performance! Judging from this and all the footage from the House of Blues show I've seen, I have to say this is the best Chester's voice has sounded to me in a few years. Hopefully he maintains that form throughout the upcoming tour.

His voice is definitely auto-tuned here.

That was an awesome idea that never happened and never will. Chester hates pretty much all songs from HT and Meteora, but I'm sure someone in the band wanted to play a mix of songs for the fans.

I think that is a bit of an exaggeration there, he hates Runaway and Nobody's Listening maybe one more, and he cannot see One Step Closers big appeal. But saying that he hates pretty much all songs from HT and Meteora is not true. From what I have heard him say, that is.

 

He mentioned that he listened to all the albums in his car one day, and he was surprised that they were actually very different sounding from HT to ATS; like a new band. That is all, the package in which the songs were delivered were different, but the songwriting was equally good, and I think Chester acknowledges that. Also, I think he said he loves Crawling.

I don't like it. I love the song, but this music video does nothing me. Except for the fact that I like the way Mike looks so troubled when he sings. I like the emotion.

 

For me, a good music video is supposed to be a good blend of a tale and a band performance. Or just a band performance, because when it comes down to it, that's what we all like to see. There is no real story here, only a setting. And no real band performance. So it lacks both and therefore it does not move me personally.

 

Don't get me wrong, actually this is better than a music video with only a tale, and no performance at all. This rarely works. I hate it when the main focus is on the video and not the music. They are at least singing here, and the story is not good enough for you to forget about the music. Balance is the key. But you'll need the right elements to make this balance, and they are missing here.

Looks interesting enough, but I fear we're going to get yet another video filled with slow motion. It fits the vibe though.

Yeah, he was definitely stoned. That is also why he misses part of the bridge, I don't think it is his mic.

There are plenty of other videos where you can see him playing that "one note" part (it's actually 2 notes - an octave interval on E), so my only guess is that the part where the drums drop out is sampled. Brad's the only guy in the band who doesn't wear in-ear monitors, so he can't hear the click track - he relies totally on Rob and wedge monitors on the side of the stage to keep in time. I forget what show it was, but there was one occasion where Rob played a prank on Brad by getting up from his drums and walking away during Bleed it Out, and Brad totally lost track of the tempo. I think he did play the piano throughout that section during some earlier performances, because I know I've heard him get off track there before, so they probably made a change at some point.

 

Also, yay for more "ZOMG THEY AREN'T ACTUALLY PLAYING THEIR INSTRUMENTS" crap.

Dosn't he have a click track and monitor in his headphones? Or are they not electrical and only for noise-reduction?

Now they're on tour, I know they won't do it since it needs an other guitar (and maybe other things, not sure). But they could have token the right material before starting the tour. Nevermind. I'm not complaining. They could eventually prepare what's necessary for playing it during the summer tour. That's why I keep asking this song, to show I'm still interested in it. Because obviously, it will never see the light of the day again if fans don't request it.

They won't need another guitar. A guitar can be set up for that song in a matter of 5 minutes. They only need to take three strings off his half step down drop D guitar, and put one new D string on it. A guitar tech can do this in no time. So that is obviously not what's holding them back.
