Another big problem that I have with albums after ATS is the tracklistings. They could have been great albums if better songs were chosen. Each album after ATS has some songs that great and some that are poopy.

True. UNTIL IT BREAKS could be separated into 4 awesome tracks with Delson on vocals on Three Band Terror. I mean they can remove LGM and replace with some other decent tracks from the session but there's nothing we can do.

  2. Meteora is the album that solidifies the name LINKIN PARK. Numb, Faint, Somewhere I Belong, you name it. It's the album that put LINKIN PARK to mainstream audience. Okay, let's say, what if the band released a different Meteora back in the day? Like in line to all the 2002 demos we've got like Unfortunate, Halo? Do you think LP will wind out as one-hit wonder act of 2000s?

Majority from the fanbase, Meteora was like a gift and a curse for the band. A gift since it staples their legacy to be the biggest rock band of the world. A curse because everything after that album people are still wanting the band to return to that sound. The stigma that post-Meteora materials are perceived underappreciated, inferior products to both HT and Meteora.

This is where A Thousand Suns fits in, They want to de-linkin park-ify the LP sound (the derivative sound). MTM was like the testing ground, a first step for them to shift their sound from the traditional HT & M sound. ATS was a full force that shook the world when it came out, all the HT & M purists were gone mad because it's not HYBRID THEORY. I admit it took months for me to absorb ATS because I always compare it to New Divide because of my expectation that ATS could be New Divide sonically. ATS ended up to be my favourite LP record. It's still my top 1 record from the band. I am truly grateful that the band was able to produce a complex record that defy all our expectations. It's not Hybrid Theory, not Meteora. It's LINKIN PARK.

I know that the band still have the creative, innovative energy to make a record that was challenging as ATS. It took 10 years for them to surpassed Hybrid Theory and now ATS is turning 10, is this a sign for a new groundbreaking record after 10 years? We'll see.

There were probably a bunch during the LT era that never made the cut. They were experimenting with tons of folk stuff and even were listening to the Smithsonian folk soundtrack at one point for inspiration. Supposedly, COG, RU and STB were all folk songs originally, too.

Would love to hear the original demo of Castle of Glass.

  4. We need more acoustic/folk tracks from the band in the vein of Devil's Drop, Primo, Three Band Terror, Final Masquerade (acoustic), The Messenger and Sharp Edges. I would love to see that as a direction for them to explore more hopefully in the future.

    Big fan of this idea.

I find it interesting honestly. After listening to LT, RECHARGED, and OML, it's starting to feel bloated. A stripped down folk, acoustic, strings-oriented record would be a breathe of fresh air. Final Masquerade (acoustic), Primo, Devil's Drop, Three Band Terror and Sharp Edges were heading into that direction. We need more of that.

  6. The question is do the band still has the capability to deliver an album on the same caliber as A Thousand Suns quality? That's the problem right there. If they can make a sequel to that, I'll be more than happy. I don't count The Hunting Party as successor to A Thousand Suns, not even close.

True but i dont know how being an independent artist comes together with touring. They were one of the few artists that were really having a WORLD tour. Usually world tour mean USA + Europe and some Latin America countries. Nobody comes to Australia etc. And they were touring literally everywhere packing up arenas and stadiums. But this kind of tour needs some money and sponsors right

Unless they signed to a new label that is less restrictive to the band's creative direction but every label wants their artists to put out something commercially viable to the public since it is business. That's the reason why the band have this weird pattern of releasing records, a risky records like Hybrid Theory, A Thousand Suns, and The Hunting Party followed by universal records like Meteora, LIVING THINGS, One More Light.

I really like the way that you have explained it, it was a good read for me.

Well its the same with every fanbase, there are always some morons that expect the artist to deliver exactly the same album as they think was „the best” only in their opinion and the rest sucks. I listen to a lot of different artists in different genres and i sweat its all the same story everywhere.

Maybe LP should go independent now but that of course means more money for promo and everything.

They can go independent for sure, LP has Machine Shop anyways. The more they go underground in the next record, the better.

  9. What would be the band's music if Mike was not the producer of THP? Would there be any impact on the direction they're going? Let's say for example, the band approached a different producer (not Gilmore nor Rubin), a totally new producer. I'm curious how it's going to unfold especially when you have an outside perspective in terms of vision and execution.

  10. I agree. THP is my least favourite record from the band (though I love Rebellion, Drawbar and GATS), majority of the songs from THP are liveless. THP would've been better if they had and external producer to oversee the process of the record. I know Mike and the band are capable of producing it on their own, but IMO, it's much better if they have an outside perspective of what could be the record all about.

If LT succeeded with a full blown folk-record then I'm sold on that one because LT had that vibe to it but it's subtle. That's a great progression from LT to LP6. Devil's Drop from the Mall OST, is  a perfect example of transitioning from LT to LP6.

Russian film sounds so random. I cant imagine some random russian director thinking about Mike and asking him to produce a song for his movie lol

Maybe he's familiar with LP working with Transformers franchise especially way back 2011 when LP performed in Red Square.

  12. Imagine Hahn joined the stage as well at the end of the set and played Joe Solo Medley with a new twist. Damn, that's gonna be awesome. Imagine Hahn, Shinoda and Bourdon doing instrumental solos in the middle of LP set (such as Session, CFTI, Lockjaw or Drawbar).

  13.

Did it come out on vinyl too? Completely forgot about it, that sucks. A bit greedy for their part.

I've got 2 copies of PT vinyl, really. 1 for playback and 1 for collection. Such a bummer for my side. Can I purchase just the 10" vinyl only? I think that would go inside the sleeve.
