Chazy987 Posted July 5, 2025 Posted July 5, 2025 Hi guys I've been meaning to create this thread for a while now. Anyway: one of the MANY things I love about LPs are the samples. Sounds, concepts, loops that - even from their own words (I remember for example in Era Meteora) - have always been extracted from home-made sounds and not fished out from something else (as was done for example with She Couldn't). Recent discussions and videos got me thinking. 1 2 Anyone know if these are legit? If so, I think they're fucking brilliant. Let me know what you think! Quote
Robrobbsen Posted July 5, 2025 Posted July 5, 2025 Wasn´t Mike also not ok with people using the samples they made from the mpc leak or am I missremembering something here? Quote
Astat Posted July 7, 2025 Posted July 7, 2025 Of course they're legit, anyone with editing software can verify what's being shown in the videos. The band has never outright denied sampling anything from other sources, they just don't come right out and admit it all the time. There's probably a bit of obfuscation going on with Faint specifically because they talked a lot about the "live strings" on it but never specified that those were playing the low-end string line during the verses instead of the main string sample. These days, they'd probably talk more openly about stuff like this, but during the HT/Meteora period they were fighting for every shred of credibility they could obtain while the "manufactured/boy band nu metal" accusations were going around. I feel like if it had gotten out back then that a hit single like Faint was built around a string loop lifted from a Bond film, the press never would have let us hear the end of the "ripoff" claims. That is so true. The press would've ate them alive back then. Some newer fans never experienced the whole "LP is manufactured" era of the band. That was annoying as hell back then. Quote

Bambitt Posted July 9, 2025 Posted July 9, 2025 The Faint string section feels like they re-recorded it live after they created the intro with samples, the sample video has a bit of a velocity drop which I dont hear on the Faint intro Quote
