you mispelled "1999" :P, the Kongo Shock Source link leads to lplive.net

If you are referring to the year Chester tried out for Kongo Shock, then 1998 is correct.

Kongo Shock source link leads to the old Grey Daze Story that was deleted, because the new one is on the way.

Q: When did you start playing music and singing?

I started singing when I was really, really young. I’ve always kinda sung my whole life. I started playing music when I was about thirteen. I was in my first band around that time, and by the time I was sixteen I had made a record.

Q: How was your experience in Grey Daze?

It was mixed, we had a lot of great times and we had a lot of fun. We played a lot of great shows, but we also had a lot of turbulent times as well and as a lot of member changes so it was kind of a pain in the ass.

You know, the entire pre-Grey Daze period is a thing I really need to sink my teeth in. That quote imply that SDAHF wasn't Chester's first band, but I'm pretty sure it was. For now, I'll just leave a few quotes here. I also know a few other things, but I won't post them until I'll be able to figure out some more about it.

From my conversations for Grey Daze Story:

>Q: The bio you sent me says Chester has fronted several bands before Grey Daze. Is it correct?

Jonathan Krause: The only band that I knew Chester fronted was Sean Dowdell And His Friends.

>Q: I have the band's bio that was printed by the management for promotional use and it says that before Grey Daze, Chester "toured the country with a stage production of You Are The Child and has fronted several bands in the Phoenix area". Do you know if he really sang in any bands before Sean Dowdell And His Friends or right after that before joining Grey Daze?

Sean Dowdell: No, he did not.
Kerry Rose: He may have done the occasional one off with another band, but the only other band I was aware of is Sean Dowdell and his Friends, and that was before my time with the band.

**************************************************
Chester on Scuzz:

I started playing music. I got into the theater, musical theater in school. And uhm, and so I kinda just… I knew I could sing. I didn’t realise I could sing very well, but I knew I could sing pretty good. Uhm, so I got into musical theater. I was always doing a character roles and a funny voices and stuff. Uhm, and one of my buddies was a pretty good guitar player, and he, he was like: “Man, I wish I knew someone who could sing”. I was like: “I can sing.” So we broke into the church behind this house and stole a microphone. I call it divine intervention. I didn’t call it theft. Divine intervention. Cause it was really easy to break into that church for some reason. But eh…, and we started… and we learnt the entire “Doors” catalogue. And then that kinda open the door to some other young musicians that have been in bands and they invited me to be in my first band.

Mark and Brad played together on The Pricks?

Just thought that I would get this side note in here. Back in the day Brad Delson was neighbors with Mark Wakefield (one of Linkin Park's old vocalists before Chester joined. Mark is now Taproots manager). The two of them were in a band called The Pricks before Linkin Park (Hybrid Theory, Xero) was formed. It is also possible that Mike Shinoda was a part of The Pricks as well but thats not for sure. Just in case you people were wanting a little more in depth view into the lives of the band members :-)

Linkin Park: I started the band back in 1996. At that point, I was mainly doing beats for various hip hop acts, but decided I wanted to experiment with mixing different styles of music together. The band that did that was called "Xero", and included me, Brad, Joe, and Rob.

What were you sampling?
I didn't know anything about old-school rock & roll or blues, but I'd hear a B.B. King song and just think it was the greatest thing ever. I always ended up taking those influences and making hip-hop beats out of them. So I put my bluesy piano to a sampled beat and, eventually, I started rapping over it.

What was that scene like? How focused were you guys?
For the most part, we made a lot of joke songs. Gangsta rap had just poked its head out, and we made a lot of joke gangsta-rap songs. They were all about smoking weed and being pimps, and those were two things we were totally unfamiliar with. Like with a lot of suburban kids, there was an element of voyeurism there -- I had never been down to Long Beach, y'know?

I once made a demo tape of joke gangsta rap songs called “Pooch Pound” that included a song called “North Coast Killa” where we executed all our Canadian gangsta rivals.

amuZnet: Do you get nervous playing?
Linkin Park: No, I've been playing live since I was 14, and I was an actor before that and did a few plays and traveled the country. Playing in front of a crowd is pretty natural to me.

What's the first record you remember liking?

When I was two I used to sing Foreigner songs. My brother played their records all the time and I'd sing along.

What was your first song about?

When I was 15 my friend and I learned every Doors song we could play. We liked them as they were so poetic, spacey and deep. So it was something along those lines.

1996 - Xero:
Band Members: Mark Wakefield (Vocals), Mike Shinoda (Vocals), Brad Delson (Guitar), Rob Bourdon (Drums), Dave Farrell (Bass), Joe Hahn (Turntables).

Studio recordings: Demo tape.
Shows: Six shows.
Live recordings: None as far as we know.

These 3 need updated. Mark Wakefield was a part of 'The Pricks'. Dave Garrett is the bassist of both Karma and Relative Degree (as well as Xero for a brief time [before Dave 'Phoenix' Farrell]). The band members, studio recordings, shows, and live recordings of 'Xero' need updated too. 'The Pricks' and 'Relative Degree' both have studio recordings (demo tapes).

According to this interview with Dave Garrett, as well as this topic I made on his story, Relative Degree recorded some demos on a cassette that he still has to this day that he hasn't found yet. He also said that Karma recorded some demos on cassette that the old guitarist from the band has. Additionally, he mentioned who the band members of 'Karma' were: Dave Garrett (bass), Rob Bourdon (drums), Steve Hever (guitar), and Josh Dulay (vocals). They also jammed with a guitarist named Eliot for a while. One more thing, Dave Garrett says that Mark had a video camcorder that had captured video of their Roxy performance when they were a part of 'Relative Degree'. The audio quality of the camcorder sucked, meaning the audio quality of the performance is bad.

'Karma' needs to be added to this.

Also, according to Hoobastank guitarist Dan Estrin, Hoobastank (spelled Hoobustank at the time) filmed their first show on VHS, which includes 'The Pricks' footage as well, which Dan still has in his possession.
