hahninator
We have an "LP7 New Album Updates" thread but we wanted to drop a quick post about album activity for those of you who aren't following it closely. The guests in the studio are still happening. Jon Green was in the studio on February 24th (live video), and was spotted in the studio in January as well so he might either be just visiting several times over the course of a few months or he could possibly he lending his hand at producing a song or more. Most recently, Conner Youngblood (from the recent Download To Donate album) was in the studio on March 7th. The band broadcasted a live video of it, where you can hear a clip of them working on new music. Interestingly, they use a theremin on the track. On March 10th, Mike, Joe, and Phoenix visited Sweden to meet with Mercedes. Mercedes sponsored the Chinese leg of The Hunting Party Tour in 2015. The next day on March 11th, Mike, Joe, and Phoenix visited Warner Bros in Hamburg, Germany. There is also a live video of that. To be meeting with the label already means the band is likely showing them some new music. LP might be further along than we think...their Instagram is full of studio pictures from the last few months and they've been working consistently on new music since September at Larrabee Studios. Not putting anything past them, they could also be in Germany to meet with MLK to book German tour dates for the second half of 2016, when the album is due out. They've done in-person negotiations with MLK before, so that could be a part of the trip if they're already looking at their schedule for the rest of the year. Whatever is going on in Europe with three band members is definitely related to the new album process in some way, though. None of this is groundbreaking information, but the process is definitely well along and they seem to have made significant progress on new music so far. We don't have a guess as to when they'll release a single or when the album will come out (besides Mike saying sometime past June 2016), but the band has released their lead single before when the rest of the album isn't quite finished yet (see: A Thousand Suns, The Hunting Party). We'll keep you updated as the new album cycle gets going. Quote Link to comment https://lplive.net/forums/topic/12164-new-album-update-band-in-europe/ Share on other sites
RickLPL
Funny live video. My guess on the lead single release date: end of May Quote Link to comment https://lplive.net/forums/topic/12164-new-album-update-band-in-europe/#findComment-262790 Share on other sites
Astat
I really don't think they're anywhere close to done. Unless they do something Japan '06-esque, I think they'll be cutting it fairly close on 2016 being the first year in Linkin Park's history without a single tour date. I don't expect ANY concrete new album news until mid-summer at the earliest. hahninator
I agree with not being anywhere close to done. They'll definitely announce some live dates in the October, November, December part of the year, though. If Mike says the album is coming at the end of the year, he's probably right. Coizu
Weren't people saying the same thing a few days before GATS was teased? We have pretty much no insight into how far they are and I guess the chances for getting 2016 dates are pretty much the same chances for getting no dates this year. crazygolfer
Personally, I don't think the release of the lead single is too far away. It's becoming the norm for artists to release a lead single well ahead of an album's release instead of a month or two before. There was a LOT more evidence of them being further along than this before GATS came out. The number of studio photos we've seen to this point vs. what we got during the THP process are outnumbered probably 5 to 1. If they were at the point of "songs are mostly just one instrument + vocals at this point, we're working on getting solid lyrics and melodies first" just a couple weeks ago, they haven't magically whipped up an album or likely even a single completed song in the time since. Kilmer
I wouldn`t get that surprised to see a single coming before June. No one knows what they are going for this time, it could be more acoustic or even minimalist oriented. But anyway, let's wait and see.
