The original HT site, which you can find on achieve.org, said that HT EP was released May 21st (If I'm not mistaking), but since that was so short time after the formation of the band, it is possible that it's wrong, so I think that if you want to post the release date, then you should put a "?" at the end of the date.

Wikipedia and LPA-wiki says HT EP was released 1st May 1999, but this is definitely wrong, this is probably why I thought May 21st is the date it was released on (which is more possible than May 1st).

Anyway the original HT site says it will be released soon, and the snapshot was taken May 19th. It also says they will tour the US Coast in May, so I suppose HT EP was released right before the tour (that would make sense, I hope that their actions had more sense that they have now), so I assume it was released May twenty somenthing'th.

Are there any truly reliable sources? Something things even Mike or Chester say are wrong. If wikipedia page says something, and nothing else contradicts it, it can be taken as the closest thing to the truth we have. In this case however, the HT site is probably more accurate

I didn't say it's reliable, I just used it to explain where did May 21st come from in my first post in this threat. If the snapshot on the HT site would be taken a little bit later, then we would know the exact date. We could maybe ask Mike on the upcoming chat about the date, he doesn't remember it for sure (he barely remembers the year Chester joined), but maybe he has it written somewhere.

EDIT: Why don't you have a FM section in the main post? Since you have DBS and STP, I think you should also include FM great job anyway

There are two release dates for HT EP - release date of the master version and release date of the reissue.

The date I was talking about was release date for the original HT EP, he already listed the reissue in the main post, the only thing that's unknown about that is the day it was released on, the month is already listed. As I mentioned earlier I believe that original HT EP was released late May (early June is possible too) 1999.

You're right, I didn't noticed this earlier. As for the reissue - lpcatalog says "November 19"

About the Hybrid Theory website:

That snapshot is from 2000. Looks like the text was copied from somewhere else though. We don't really know how old it is.

The "five song EP" could be something else that never came out. It's possible that the "US West Coast Tour" happened in May 2000. We already have two dates from that month in the live guide:

On the other hand, there's an interview from 2001 where they use "five song EP" to talk about the HT EP.

And we know the EP wasn't released in 2000 because the original CD says 1999.

The main argument against this "May 1999" date is that the band wouldn't have enough time to create it because Chester joined them in March.

If you check the booklet, he isn't credited for "Technique", "Step Up" and "High Voltage".

That's 3 songs they could have written before he was in the band.

They surely didn't need Chester to create the hidden track either.

Maybe the instrumentals of "Carousel" and "Part Of Me" were already done by the time he joined and he just helped with vocals and lyrics.

We know "And One" was the very first song written with him, so that's one song they might have taken more time to complete.

The DVD was released with the FMM package and I think it was the same day of release of TRT.

It's very likely they were prepared, like you said probably recorded parts/demos at home. They were an unsigned band at the time. Studio time is very expensive even with the support from Zomba, so maybe they recorded it in just a few days/weeks. Small artists don't need to wait 3 months to release something like major artists/labels do in order to promote it properly.

We don't have evidence for a May 1999 tour, but I think the mentioned west coast tour in support of this EP seems more likey to me than the May 2000 shows. I highly doubt they played a lot of shows in early 2000 / May 2000 since they were busy with HT at the time. I think in interviews they said it took about 2 months to record but I don't think that includes all the preparation time they invested. Since they mentioned writing stuff like One Step Closer in an apartment. They pretty much went straight on tour promoting the album as soon as they were done with recording.
