  1. Geki, I agree with you that the song's incredibly dark. Contrary to the lyrics, the music is soothing and, especially at the end, optimistic. It's kind of a journey. He sings about his current mental state in the first chorus, the second chorus concerns his attempts of getting out of his position (which is bittersweet because he was making an effort to push himself towards a better situation but he unfortunately failed) and he's saying that he's still searching for a solution in the bridge. The difference now is that he's hopeful. There is someone who can save him, and that person is himself. He, however, doesn't knows how.

The four lines from the first chorus relate to me. I was feeling very lonely, which resonates with the "nobody can save me now". But after a lot of thinking, I realized that everything I'm currently going through, I have to do it on my own. Only I can do this. Only I can save me. That's the thing which gives me strength and makes me think positive again.

  2. Excuse me for necroposting. I'm going through a difficult time at the moment. But there's one song which helps me stay positive. It's Nobody Can Save Me. I'm getting chills when he turns everything around and sings "Only I can save me now".

I'm curious about the interpretation, meaning and value from you guys and girls.

  3. I read somewhere that Owen Pallett was going to arrange strings for two songs on Living Things but ended up doing it only for I'll Be Gone. Mike then eventually arranged the strings for Castle of Glass. However, I can't find any string section in the credits in the booklet. How can that be?

"Linkin Park Fans Criticize New Album

Written by Eduardo Maia on January 23, 2017. Posted in Arts & Entertainment

Creating a solid career is not as easy as it seems for many artists. Throughout the years, there will always be good and bad moments. While some projects go wrong, new changes can be revolutionary.

In fact, I am not a huge rock fan, however, my childhood was marked by emotions and good feelings listening to Linkin Park songs.

The American rock band has conquered my adolescent ears since 2000, when they released their first album, Hybrid Theory. Since then, Linkin Park songs are on top of my playlists.

The bands sixth and latest album, Underground 15 released in 2015, was a disappointment because I was expecting a project full with new songs. Moreover, there are only 6 songs in this new album.

It was a target of critics around the world, and it made Linkin Park lovers feel like the band is not living a desirable moment in terms of production variety.

The latest album, Underground 15, was produced by the singer Mike Shinoda, leaving behind Don Gilmore, their previous producer. And this is one of the reasons fans have criticized the album.

Another reason is the new songs are less electronic than previous albums. One of the greatest characteristics of Linkin Park throughout its musical history, the powerful mixing of electronic effects with heavy rock, was not encountered in this 2015 album.

In past years, the band became famous and recognized by mixing nu metal with rap metal, a riveting combination which has conquered not only millions of fans around the world, but Billboard awards and international prizes.

In addition, their songs were always being played on radio stations in and outside the country.

Departing from its last album, The Hunting Party, we dont encounter a heavier metal in this latest album. Its indeed, a project totally different from what weve been used to see.

However, we have to acknowledge the audacity the band and its producers had at this time.

Changing ideas is natural and I guess that, despite critics, they wanted to innovate.

Although not everybody around the world like the new release, it is not a complete tragedy and actually contains some good songs. My favorite is Chance of Rain.

As I said before, every single band on the planet has its bad and good moments throughout a career. With Linkin Park, the story is no different.

Their latest album might not be satisfying all fans, but it is understandable that not all projects will be successful.

The band is currently back in the studio working on its next project. Time will tell what they have learned from feedback following Underground 15.

Leaving the critics aside, real Linkin Park fans will always support the band, no matter how bad they might sound in the current moment."

  5. I gave this topic some thought a couple of days ago, before this thread. This goes in-depth. In my opinion, I like to take A Thousand Suns as an example. I dont want them to replicate this album, but to continue the great things they did on this album.

    Lyrics

Firstly, I'd like them to reinvent themselves with the lyrics and to really get nitpicky with them. A song like Until It's Gone has a Linkin Park stamp on it. Its so Linkin Park, while the band has the potential to write really good songs, like they did on A Thousand Suns. I dont have problems with the personal nor political point of view. I just want it to be good.

Secondly, something I didnt liked on It Goes Through, for example, is that the second verse is almost identical to the first, which I find disappointing.

Thirdly, I want Mike to get off his horse and not to brag so much. It made sense on a song like When They Come for Me because it matches the theme of the album, but since Living Things and especially on The Hunting Party (Keys to the Kingdom, All for Nothing, Wastelands, A Line in the Sand), he exaggerates it. Where are the themes he used on Papercut or Fort Minor?

    Music

What bothered me on Living Things (and before actually, but it came to the front on this album) was the song structure the band used on many songs. Of course the AABA-pattern is a common thing in the current pop music world and its okay to use that. But you can experiment within this structure. So what have New Divide, Burning in the Skies, Lost in the Echo, Ill Be Gone, and Powerless in common? The last four bars in the bridge consist of the first lyrical bars/sentences from the chorus. Its so repetitive. It´s a way that the band became familiar with in writing a transition between the bridge and the final chorus. But every song in A Thousand Suns was different compared to another song on that album. The Hunting Party likewise. Did you know that Keys to the Kingdom, All for Nothing, Wastelands, Rebellion, Final Masquerade and A Line in the Sand all differ in their final chorus?

Id love to hear them experiment with song structure, time signatures, creating amazing ambiances (like in Castle of Glass, Powerless, Final Masquerade, Until Its Gone and all of A Thousand Suns), retaining energy with rock/metal sounds (Figure .09, Papercut etc.) and taking their best songs to a whole new level (A Line in the Sand, the Little Things Give You Away, Keys to the Kingdom (the second half).

    Style

What I love about Linkin Park is that they are able to do anything. The only genre they didn´t do is R&B. Every album (except for Meteora) has its own sound. On Minutes to Midnight, the band tried to go astray from the nu metal sound, in which they succeeded. On A Thousand Suns, they tried to expand their barriers even more, in every way. Living Things was the commercial album, a commercial compromise, to reconnect with some lost rock fans but in their own comfortable way. The Hunting Party was the critical compromise, to gain some credibility with the rock critics but also as a response to rock radio, but again in their own way, once again, expanding barriers.

So whats next? I really dont know. But I bet Im going to love it again. They could go commercial again, like they did on Meteora and Living Things, but I dont think they will. I expect something slightly softer with more electronics in it and Chester more prominent. You never know it with Linkin Park. I think that the next album will come out in 2017/18, in a different music world with new influences.

  6.

    You added Thanksgiving twice!

We've heard that live and I don't think it's anything special.

    He just really wants it

Whoops. Thanks for noticing, I totally forgot to add the A Line in the Sand (2010 Demo).

    1. Dingleberry (When They Come For Me Demo)
    2. Patients (No Roads Left Demo with Chester's Vocals)
    3. Thanksgiving (Until It's Gone Demo)
    4. TINFOIL (Long-form POWERLESS demo)

    5. POWERLESS (Original Live-Drum Take)

    6. Brand new song (2015)

    7. Castle of Glass (Alternate Mix aka better mix)

    8. An amazing instrumental

    9. THP Demo (a great jam with Tom Morello)

    10. A Line in the Sand (2010 A Thousand Suns Demo)

Bonus: Full Making of The Hunting Party

  7. Thanks guys but I know about these two threads and I think they're great. But I'm looking for, I don't know, something deeper?. For instance, there was an page where someone talked about how A Thousand Suns works as a concept album and how the songs are linked to each other. That was really interesting (the page doesn't exist anymore though). So something like that.

  8. Rob sometimes accidentally plays the second verse instead of the first verse in Guilty All the Same. You can hear that in the performance at Rock am Ring, where he corrects himself after two bars.

And they better not "LiesGreedMisery"-fy Keys to the Kingdom by singing the screamed vocals...
