  1. oh, I've had this book for almost a week now. I'm still going through it.

The piano and guitar are all mashed up together in a new arrangement that allows a solo person to play the song. If you wanted to play it exactly how the band does, you could piece it back together from what's written, but it doesn't give the original arrangements explicitly. bass is not (explicitly) in the book.

It's unlike the HT/Meteora books which (i think, if i remember right) was just guitar and bass and they were separate and more like how the band actually played it. Also unlike the old books, it is all classical style notes. There are no guitar tabs since this isn't just a guitar book.

EDIT EDIT: the shipping on linkinpark.com is outrageous. I got this from Amazon.

  2. I think you broke a few LPL rules here. Stop trying to steal my spotlight. :(

What. The F bomb not allowed on a forum favoring a band that drops it the most frequently?

I didn't post any material, and that's the only rule stickied or anywhere that I see at all :/

  3. Yes.

Also, to anyone you already has itunes, it needs to be version 10.3 or higher. So if you haven't updated for some reason, make sure you do.

    AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGH

If it comes between updating iTunes and swallowing live scorpions on fire covered in gasoline and seasoned with nightshade and antifreeze, I much rather have the gorram scorpions. I have never seen an installation process so painful than with iTunes. It took me THREE GORRRAM HOURS last time because I had to be a doofus and follow Mike Shinoda on Ping. And that wasn't even on my first attempt.

I am seriously considering just not watching the livecast because of this. I won't get the next set of three hours back, and I don't have anything newer than an iPod video so it's not worth it to me.

  4. ATS did kinda "suck" for LP's standards. The sale records are misleading because LP fans of the past still buy their stuff yet regret that purchase later on. Look at all the credible reviews out there. Wake the f*k up people.

That sort of handicap would apply to ALL albums on the market. So after adjusting for that handicap, it's still 2nd best.

BTW, Metacritic gives this album the highest score out of all of the other LP albums. It has no negative reviews, except by fans still stuck in 2002. And even then, positive reviews by fans still outweigh negative ones three to one. So, you're still in the vocal minority.

  5. I prefer the original but don't really care for either version. My biggest issue with the Iridescent remix is that it's not a *GOOD* remix. It sounds like something you could make in 20 minutes with a free audio editor.

On the bright side, it's cool that they performed it on TV, so we at least have it. I would have preferred that they do the intro piano chords, then go directly into "QWERTY", but that's just me. :-p

It's not supposed to be a "remix" in the common sense of the word. Actually, I rather not hear it being called a remix. It's a radio edit. Designed to fit between the other pop songs on the radio, where song before it might have been some upbeat thing. The effect is lost with the song just being on the radio, not that I think the edit saves it much.

Mainstream radio prefers songs to be kept short as possible. They don't want people to touch the dial.

  6. Really? i didn't think a song without a chorus (robot boy) a song with instense screaming over at eplectic electronics (Blackout) and a crazy/instense song with with complex percussion, no lyrics for a chorus all with middle-eastern vocals (when they come for me) could even be considered pop?

    *bonks your head*

Obvious troll is obvious. Do not feed.

  7. Whats funny is, that I had this discussion just recently with a friend. He's not a LPU member and he was also pissed about the 60$ annual price.I don't want to attack people but I think 60$ isn't that much. Yeah it is but If somebody really wants to be in the LPU he can get the money. For the guys who are smoking. In Germany you have to pay 5 € = 7,18 $ for one pack of cigarettes. So if you save ~ 8 packs per year you can afford the LPU. In addition you (now) get a tshirt, a cellphone bag, a print and the chance for FREE MEET&GREETS and SUMMITS. I know so many people - fans of Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Eminem and of course Bieber. They would pay hundreds of dollars for just say hi to them. And we get something like Summits. Backstagetours, Crewbustours, Walk on Stage and Q&A Sessions and videochats with the band. We get videos of Pooch explaining how to mix live concerts, we get studiotour-videos with Mike and explanations of how they achieved some of their sounds. LPU does so much for theire fans. (Think about the story with LPFan1989). Don't know why people always complaing about LP.

So you're saying $60 isn't that much *In Germany*

Of course, I don't drink or smoke precisely because it's too expensive to do so (also, that smoking smells like donkey ass and beer tastes like piss). But it is a high tab for a lot of people, particularly for people who are *not in Germany*. I only renewed with the funds I won from a programming contest, otherwise i'd still be out.

Nonetheless, the base concept of the LPU makes perfect sense. In joining the LPU, you are basically paying your way to separate yourself from fans who want attention but on the whole don't care as much for the band. Sorry random internet whiner, that's how the world works. You get what you give.

Now, why does Mike address people like that twitter guy with no sense of reality, when there are actual issues where people didn't get what they gave.

  8. I'm imagining a court of law judged by Mr. HT97.

    Victim: I was robbed

    MT97: So? We're you murdered?

    Victimi: well, no but-

MT97: I don't see the problem here. Quit making up excuses to complain. Not guilty!

    Next Case:

Victim 2: That guy there shot my friend!

    Defendant: He took my CD.

HT97: Well obviously a CD was stolen. Since the victim also took part in a crime, murder was justified, since two wrongs make a right! Not Guilty!

    Third Case:

Victim: Help me, this isn't fair!

HT97: looking at your traffic record. You ran a stoplight once. So you don't deserve any help.

Victim: I was robbed! WTF does my traffic record have to do with anything!

*Next week, tune in for HT97 taking charge as an umpire!*

Fan#4: Did you see that batter with the gun? He shot all the members on the other team!

HT97: And? We're trying to have a baseball game here. If we kept listening to your complaining we might as well not have any more baseball games anymore because we're sick of you whining.

Fan#4: HE SHOT THE OTHER TEAM! THIS ISN'T FAIR!

HT97: Oh they're dead now. Oh well they lost then.

  9. From my perspective, the pic that I provided is all that the average user would probably take into consideration. I'm guessing that most of the people that are blowing up about this are people who are part of DA or at least visit the site on a regular basis. For me, I only go there occasionally and have no idea how the site works, so what I saw on that page is what I thought was the official rules. Think about it from a perspective of someone saying, "Hey! Check out this contest LP is having," and then they link the deviantart website and those same people see what I linked. The undeniable truth here is that even if the official rules were floating around on the official Linkin park site (which I didn't even know about because I NEVER go to Linkin Parks official site for anything anymore), they should have been clearly visible on the DA site as well.

Anyways, I'm probably not contributing much by spitting the same opinion out over and over. I am basically just pissed off at everyone who are saying hateful things about this persons artwork as a result of their frustration from a flawed system. If the person comes out and says, "HA HA! I PURPOSELY SUBMITTED THIS MANY PIECES OF WORK SO THAT CHESTER WOULD SEE MY POWERFUL PHOTOSHOP SKILLS OVER ALL OF YOURS! HA HA!" that's a different story. Until then, people should take into consideration that they may have been just as clueless to the official rules as I was along with many others.

    Edit:

Well, there's the problem that caused this outrage. It's invisible for me too. I would have never guessed that was even there.

It was visible earlier today when I opened that into another tab to save. I hadn't noticed it disappeared like that. No wonder I was wondering why so many people were blind.

Still, doesn't excuse the management's decision.

  10. The rules were linked to from the DA page, On the other poster thing. The one that says "Contest Details" Reasonable sized font and blue contrasts with white, so they sort of... tried.

.. That's funny, the exact moment I go to screencap it, the link loads invisible. I wonder if that's the culprit. Even maor fail!!!

    Anyway,

The first thing anyone does before doing anything like this is look for the lawyerese. While LP management failed at making it easy to find.. at all, 20% is bad parenting here. You should know what contract you're getting into before doing anything.

  11. To those of you saying this person "cheated" and abused the rules:

    Posted Image

That's all that I paid attention to when I considered entering. Now once again, should we be blaming the artist or the people who organized this event? Those are pretty simple steps to follow right there.

    Those aren't the rules. That's a how-to / FAQ of sorts.

You follow the link that goes the the official rules. always. I'm guessing by the ignorance of it's location they should have blown up the size of the link more, because this was linked to right from the main DA page. I dont get how people missed it.

    http://www.linkinpark.com/profiles/blogs/i...artwork-contest

And yes, I don't see many people here actually blaming the artist for this, except for not following the rules, which is dishonorable, but not as dishonorable as the people running the show. Well, and that the work genuinely isn't good. He basically took a stock photo of Optimus and put a grey filter over it. Took 30 minutes max.

  12. Nobody should care. He submitted 8 so what...that doesn't mean that the band doesn't have a right to choose who they want on their cover.

It means he was eight times more likely to get discovered than someone who followed the rules.

It means that a lot of people wasted enormous amounts of time trying to do their best. I spent 8 hours on mine and mine is mediocre at best. I can't imagine the anguish of someone who really tried on this contest.

It means that, unless action is taken, all contests following this are going to be a farce, because it's going to become a spam hell if quantity over quality is what the judges are looking for.

It means that the contest wasn't fair and didn't follow it's own contract. The rules are written in lawyerese for pete's sake.

And finally, it means that the winner isn't a good of artist as the other participants. Choosing ONE and only one entry is the hardest decision in the entire process. It's a make or break moment. Allowing a cheater to win basically puts everyone else at a very large disadvantage as he didn't have to go through the most difficult part of the process.

If the band wanted to "choose who they wanted" they would have hired a graphic designer to do exactly what they wanted. Instead they did a contest and didn't follow their own rules in judging.

  13. Actually, it wouldn't have been that difficult. Let's say they went through and picked 1 piece of artwork and chose 9 runner-ups or so.

All they'd need to do is look through the artist's gallery (not very difficult) to see whether there were other entries. If there were multiple entries, then that person would be disqualified, and they could repeat the process with the runner-ups.

If they weren't going to enforce the rules, then they simply could have not had the rule in the first place. Then no one would be complaining (well, they'd probably complain about the bad quality or whatever).

In this case, all they would have had to do is look at the TITLE of the submission to see something was up.

I am more disappointed with the management here than the 'winner.' This is laziness in the extreme. I bet the band had some random person pick the final five and they didn't care about getting the best ones.

Next contest, every person's gonna submit 100 entries each in a spam attempt to be picked at random. That's what happens when this sort of thing is encouraged. Why bother putting any work into it?

  14. Chester said in the recent Kerrang! interview that the band is writing more about political issues and dealing with religion, and he said it was hard because they don't want to piss anyone off. But it pisses me off for a number of reasons. I don't believe in God, and I don't think people should be expressing their religion in music like that. If you believe in God or not - keep that shit out of music.

And when this issue was brought up in LPU chat Mike was all WTF we aren't nearly done with the album. Chester has a history of not being accurate with album descriptions. I think he just wants to give press a soundbite.

By the way, Chester never said in which way the album was polarized. He said specifically he'd avoid preaching... actually that whole bit was about finding the proper balance without preaching. For all you know it's anti-religion; you don't know which side he's taking. Or maybe it's up to interpretation just like ATS was. You're blowing his words waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay out of porportion. But i'm going with the fact that Chester's early summaries of the album are always innacurate and this is a non-issue altoghether, especially after Mike discredited it.

  15. Again???!!! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! we want Don Gilmore Back!!!!!!!!!

You don't get to speak for me, fool!

I don't want Gilmore back at all. All he has the band so it sit with a ball and chain attached to their leg and make them polish turds until they lose all meaning.

And I don't see what the big deal over Rick is anyway. He's so hands-off that the band is basically self-producing anyway. He's just there to make sure the band doesn't lose perspective. If you STILL think Rick "changed the band" despite LP expressing that desire to change since Breaking the Habit, - much before Rubin was even considered- you're under a rock.

@Geki. I think ATS is LP's best album by far. Your argument is null and void. Also, you are blowing Chester's words waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay out of proportion. ATS is neither political premeditation nor dogma, it's a narrative of what they think is a human story. An artist speaks no more through their characters any more than Voldemort speaks for J.K Rowling.

Also, props to Firefox for knowing how to correct the capitalization on Voldemort.

  16. I second this request.

    http://www.youtube.com/user/ThoseLilRabbit...u/0/1vH7L0S8Bjg

it was this link, i think.

First, I think it's awesome that he got on the chat to speak to us. I loved that he answered the NRL question. However, I don't think he's being honest. I think he's either scared or just can't pull it off live.

    Seriously???? Seriously???

Explain your evidence and your reasoning. I don't see anything funky with what he said. I do not doubt for a second what he said about LP songs not all translating to the stage being true. Surely, since they do not write with the stage in mind, that not all of them could translate and fit into the set. They've said that NRL doesn't sound well live for years now, so his story is consistent.

Accusing someone of being a liar without providing any evidence is dishonest in itself.

A ton did but he avoided a lot of questions.

More like answered as many as he could. He has to pick and choose which ones are the best to answer, on account that there's so many people. He's already said that Robot Boy has too many overlayed vocals. He answered that last time.

  17. Okay, did anyone get what the surprise was as he was leaving? He said he had a surprise, then tinychat kicked me off again, then I came back and he was logged off.

Tinychat was chewing me out about every 40 seconds. Very annoying, and it made me miss a lot.

That was me who brought up PB N jellyfish as a joke.

  18. I get the amount of food : it's not just the band it's all their roadies too.

But they lost me at black and yellow towels. What in the world..? Mike and Joe gonna do some art?

  19. LP once decided to have multiple rotating setlists on tour and then a whole bunch of people just HAVE to have it every time and whine when it doesn't happen.

and then they cave into such demands.

Makes me wonder if LP will become hesitant to try new things in the future, because as soon as they do something special a bunch of people will whine and yell at them if they can't do it anymore, and since LP doesn't wanna look like a bunch of uncaring meanies, they feel obligated to comply.

It's nice that LP is so nice. But you have to realize that nice people have a tendency to get walked all over. LP should only be nice on the basis that fans don't cry over dumb shit like this.

  20. well can some1 atleast ask him about LPUX or HT songs on tour or FM.....????????????

any of these 3 will help xD

He won't answer LPUX questions, I've tried beforehand and he basically can't talk about it until some green light goes on somewhere.

  21. I've been working for 14 hours, so I'm not gonna get into everything now, but I thought I'd comment.

This is not an online only membership. Online content, with the exception of chats, will now be free. There's no point in charging people for online content that only remains exclusive for 5 minutes. The new LPU is all about the experience with the band. We're hoping to offer opportunities like we've never offered before. Regardless of what you think, people don't join lpu for the keychain, the t-shirt, or even the CD. People join for the experience with the band they can't get anywhere else. We want to improve that and stop using our resources to produce packages that never please everyone.

I know now this seems a little crazy, but I hope you guys let us prove to you that things really are getting better for you.

On another note, the CD download is NOT the LPUX CD.

Not convinced, especially since you're being extremely vague.

How will a higher cost magically make LP have more time online for the fans? Or make the other five guys even WANT to talk to the fans online? How will you compensate for other "experiences" besides concerts, especially since LP coming to one's town is such a rare event that probably most LPUers don't get to use a concert opportunity in any given year? Is there any value in said "experinces" for people outside of Los Angeles?

the fact that nothing concrete has been said about the so called "experinces" before dropping the price is VERY fishy. You are not promising me anything concrete, you're asking me to gamble, and i find that patently ridiculous.

Also, is what you're saying really what market research said? everyone i know, including me, got it for the shirt and the CD.
