  1. Done! It was in the chat yesterday which we just summarized here: https://lplive.net/forums/topic/14106-mike-qa-summary-april-8th-2020/
  2. During some of his recent CoronaJam Sessions, Mike has taken questions from fans about a variety of topics. Here is a quick summary of things he mentioned on April 8th: - A funny LP touring story: Chester jumped off the stage to sing on top of a porta potty, but the very top of it broke which could have lead to a really messy situation... thankfully he didn't fall in! LPL note: This was likely the Miami, FL April 2001 show where Chester sings on top of the porta potty on "Points of Authority." - He really liked the sweet popcorn in Brazil when he visited during Linkin Park's tours. However, he likes salty popcorn at the movies when he goes. - Does he import these CoronaJam sessions into ProTools later on? Yes, he said he would if he added vocals to the songs because ProTools is easier to do vocals. He said he will do a stream with fans to show how he does vocals but warns that it might be boring for fans. Ableton is easier to do the music on because it constantly loops. And ProTools is easier for multitracks, multiple mics, drums, etc because it can handle such a big workload. - His Hogwarts house the first time he did the test was Ravenclaw and the second time it was Gryffindor. - The reason LP songwriting sessions weren't as experimental after ATS and moved to a more classic writing process was because ATS was a unique journey and he always wants to feel like he is learning or doing something fresh for him. Wherever he is inspired at the moment, basically. - He is totally down to do a drawing / doodling live stream instead of music sometime, he just has to figure the technology out. But he wants to do it on iPad Pro. - When the band released The Hunting Party, Mike said he wanted to make an album that was fun to play live but ironically THP was the album with the least songs performed live. Mike says the problem was that the rest of the band only wanted to play a certain amount of time on stage, like a set that was around 100 minutes. Mike wanted to play longer but LP didn't get around to rehearsing on the road or making the songs fit into the live setlist with the amount of time they had agreed upon for the set. - Some footage of the band performing as Xero exists but Mike says they look like children and they dressed up weirdly on stage. He talks about the quality of the videos not being that great from that era because at that time you needed really legit cameras to film with. - Mike loves visiting Brazil and says the crowds there have a ton of energy. He says the Rock In Rio crowds are epic. He said LP had an end of tour party at their hotel there one time and had a great time drinking and hanging out. - Mike thinks that Linkin Park didn't end up rehearsing Keys to the Kingdom to play live, but thinks it's a dope song and he loves it. - LP worked out on tour but not as a group, but he worked out with Chester and Phoenix. He tried to stay with those two on tour (meaning the same hotel) whereas Rob, Brad, and Joe stayed together. It basically boiled down to those three being the most social but also liking the same style of hotels. - Mike said Chester loved working out and would work out twice a day quite frequently.
  3. During some of his recent CoronaJam Sessions, Mike has taken questions from fans about a variety of topics. Here is a quick summary of things he mentioned on April 9th: - Mike talks about the famous New York City 2001 video of And One where Mike jumps into the crowd. He wasn't a fan of doing it much because the band got so popular so fast and the crowds got pretty large. However, he was a fan of going down on the barricade during the shows. He talked about the story where the necklace with his Japanese family crest was yanked off during the show... so Mike at the end of the show asked people to back up and find the necklace; it was returned to him luckily! - He thinks Paramore is so dope but doesn't know if they'd be open to a collaboration with HIM. He hasn't heard Haley's new solo material besides one song so far but he liked it. - An artist who he always wanted to do a collaboration with but never got the chance - Kendrick Lamar is someone he'd like to collaborate with. Kendrick doesn't do many collaborations. - When asked if he'd ever work with Adult Swim, Mike says he loves them and he would love to work with them but he doesn't know what he would do or what they would want from him. - His favorite Pokemon are Eevee and Pikachu. Eevee is his favorite though. - It is too long for him to do a rundown of his plug-ins but he may do it tomorrow. He's avoiding certain plug-ins because some of them slow down and/or crash the stream due to an issue with Ableton - Advice for graphic designers? Get out there, do as much work as you can. Try to find your own vibe and style. Don't try and imitate someone else who is successful. - The Battle Symphony vocal chops came from demo scat vocals Mike chopped up in ProTools. He used pitch shifter and alterboy, and grabbed pieces and chopped it up on the grid. Then added some effects to finalize it. - Mike reached out to Twitch but the person who would be in charge of partnering him as the Twitch artist relations person has the coronavirus currently. - The music video for Hold It Together was finished but the hard drive it was on was stolen at an Israeli airport on tour. The tour videographer was subjected to "extra screening" (Mike's politically correct way of saying it)... all the videographer's stuff was torn up and sifted through and the hard drive was stolen during the process. This is why there was no Hold It Together video. He said it was hard to wrap his head around doing another video for the song, sadly. - When asked about his favorite venues to play in the USA outside of California, he mentioned that he loved the Pier Rooftop venue in NYC he played on the Post Traumatic Tour. He said Red Rocks is amazing and the Gorge is amazing. He also remembers TLA in Philadelphia being amazing. - He is totally ok with fans taking the CoronaJams and remixing them, writing over them, etc and posting them online as long as they aren't monetizing them. Thank you to Justin for helping summarize the chat today - we'll be back with more summaries!
  4. Well that's Meteora, try in a few years lol The Lockout guy wants $50,000 for that footage. LP has their own footage like this (see: Esaul on Frat Party) so I doubt they'd want to spend such an insane amount of money for a video like this. They probably even have videos filmed at that rehearsal spot too.
  5. Following last month's successful Hybrid Theory 20 stream with Mike, Joe, and Phoenix reacting to an unreleased Linkin Park show in San Diego during the Hybrid Theory tour, the band has started posting each song in full on YouTube. Two songs will be released each Monday and Thursday until the full show is up! Visit the show page for more information about the performance, which had a completely unknown setlist until this year.
  6. CORRECTION: Yesterday we posted that Mike will be releasing a new EP, entitled Open Door. The song will actually be released by itself and there will not be an EP. We apologize for the mistake.
  7. As you all have known by now, Mike has released his demo of "Open Door" to fans and asked them to submit their own vocals for possible inclusion on the final song. He has also opened the process up to collaborate with fans artistically as well, as the winner of the #DesignOpenDoor contest will have their artwork chosen as the cover of the Open Door single. Typespire is the company Mike is working with to pick the fans for the artwork, and they say, "During this time of uncertainty, especially with fellow freelancers and small business owners, we want to bring some opportunity and good news in this crazy world. So... Typespire are teaming up with Linkin Park & Fort Minor's Mike Shinoda in a bid to find him some cover artwork during our isolation period!" This past weekend Mike showed us a look at working on Open Door again, with fan vocals, via Instagram Live. Today, the top 50 submissions have been chosen by Typespire and Mike will now pick the winner from those top 50. Mike posted a note on his Instagram story from Typespire, saying, "A huge thank you to everyone who took part in #designopendoor with Mike Shinoda. We have seen some really brilliant submissions you have all put together in no less than a week. We hope you've all enjoyed it as much as we all have seeing all of your designs. We're glad we could bring the community together whilst under quarantine to really showcase the power of connectivity, creativity, and community. We present to you our top 50. Of which Mike Shinoda will be handpicking his winner to be chosen on the cover of his EP Open Door, along with a $1,000 US prize!" CORRECTION: Yesterday we posted that Mike will be releasing a new EP, entitled Open Door. The song will actually be released by itself and there will not be an EP. We apologize for the mistake. So it appears that Open Door will become a new single! Mike has been working via YouTube Live, Twitch, Facebook Live, and Periscope (following Instagram Live) for weeks now, giving fans a look into his process at making new music. He will go live for over an hour at times, showcasing new beats and instrumentals he is writing. Videos of these songwriting sessions can be found on Mike's YouTube page.
  8. Yeah this is right. Astat can add technical parts about it for sure. Crawling and PMA required a second guitar which happened literally at the start of this tour in 2001.
  9. They promoted it saying live stream, but we all knew it was pre recorded. All good.
  10. We'll ask the band. What a great show and an awesome idea. The commentary was really good and worth doing. A lot more interesting than just uploading an old show, even though we do need the show eventually. Can't believe they forgot And One, ha. First song they wrote with Chester.
  11. It's from a totally unreleased show none of us have ever seen. That looks like the clip indeed but we likely don't even have the city/date right (we guessed Portland). This is really, really great for the band to do.
  12. It's time to start celebrating Hybrid Theory! Linkin Park has announced a new live stream to debut a fully unreleased live show from 2001 tomorrow! Adding to that, the band will be reacting live to the show! "Join LINKIN PARK in celebrating the 20th anniversary of HYBRID THEORY as they react to never before seen LIVE concert footage from 2001. #HybridTheory20 Set a reminder on @youtube to watch on March 24th @ 11am PST"
  13. Doubt that Mike makes new music every single day. Sure, it's close but a demo like this every day? And Open Door going to radio? And will become a single? Seems like a cool, creative way for a new release with all of this music.
  14. You guessed it! Mike was back with yet another full hour live stream via Instagram on March 22nd for a new beat. Check out the stream below if you missed it. It sure seems like something is cooking, right? What do you think he is going to do with all of this music?
  15. Mike went live on Instagram for the fourth time in a week to showcase him making another new beat, this time something that has an A Thousand Suns-style vibe! The full stream was an hour and you can check it out below.
  16. This? One of their best. Just epic.
  17. Well in later LPU years Mike was starting to attribute demos to album years when they were from the album sessions. We all said immediately when Attached came out it would be 2002, not 2003. Almost absolutely nothing was done in 2003 studio wise. Chester wrapped up vocals in January I believe which was like, late as hell anyway. Every Meteora era song would be 2001 or 2002.
  18. We've never caught this - ever - until someone caught it on YouTube and left a comment. Attached from the LPU 15 CD, labeled as being from 2003, goes back to at least early 2001 and likely 2000. The song was used as the show outro music after One Step Closer on the Street Soldiers Tour in early 2001, at least. You can hear the song at the end of the videos from Pittsburgh (audience) and Las Vegas (webcast). Mike pretty much alludes to this on the track by track for the demo, saying, "I think the fewest songs we ever wrote for an album, Hybrid Theory not included, would be like 40 or 50, and the most would be easily 150 or more. Some of that stuff is just unlistenable, like you'd listen to it and just be totally bored, it's just loops of stuff, and other stuff we do revisit from one album, if it falls by the wayside, we might bring it into the next album and start playing with it and see if we can salvage it." It looks like the song started as a Hybrid Theory era demo and then was brought back in for Meteora, where it was also left unused until the LPU demo release.
  19. Nailed it. Great post, Astat summed it up perfectly. Everything he said is factual. We have a great relationship with LPCatalog and Brennen, we can confirm as well that he doesn't have those files.
  20. Today we remember Chester Bennington on what would have been his 44th birthday. We miss you Chester and wish you were still here with us! Thank you for your incredible contribution to the world of music.
  21. Today Mike went live on Instagram to check on fans and ask them how things were going. When someone said he should make a beat, Mike obliged and opened a folder titled "Fort Minor sounds". Over the next 50+ minutes he made a brand new beat and gave fans a glimpse into his beat making process. Check the video out below if you missed it or you'd like to rewatch:
  22. 1. Quite a bit of PT material is better than OML or THP LP. 2. Makes no sense at all for LP's brand/image/appearance to release an LPU CD right now, as has been explained 100 times in this forum in the past year.
  23. Lyrics to start with. Need corrections done: Yeah They tell you that you should quit trying You were too small and you were too young They tell you the chance is too slim The world is too big, and you say "How come?" I'm ready to light a new fire Raise a new flag to cross a new sea And if I'm ever the one in your way Then put your head down and run right through me Why keep settling for so much less Don't take what's given just demand what's next We're looking for an open door Someway we didn't see before Someway to get out of here A plot twist that we didn't see coming We're looking for an open door Someway we didn't see before And when we get out of here We'll, no, no, no never stop running There's something like a shadow in the valley colossal Open up your eyes young one and be watchful Behind closed door trying to write a new gospel They are not God, they're not even apostles I come with the drum drum banging you breathless Enemies freeze, left bed and defenseless Straight for the chest of anybody against us The more that they resist it The more that they tempt us Why keep settling for so much less Don't take what's given just demand what's next We're looking for an open door Someway we didn't see before Someway to get out of here A plot twist that we didn't see coming We're looking for an open door Someway we didn't see before And when we get out of here We'll take off and never stop running No, no, we'll never stop running No, no, we'll never stop running When we get that open door No, no, we'll never stop running So why keep settling for so much less Don't take what's given just demand what's next We're looking for an open door Someway we didn't see before Someway to get out of here A plot twist that we didn't see coming We're looking for an open door Someway we didn't see before And when we get out of here We'll take off and never stop running No, no, we'll never stop running No, no, we'll never stop running When we get that open door No, no, we'll never stop running No, no, we'll never stop running No, no, we'll never stop running When we get that open door No, no, we'll never stop running
  24. Mike went live on Instagram Live today to discuss how he is quarantining due to the coronavirus as well as to show fans his writing and recording for the song we've seen him recently work on. The demo track, tentatively titled "Open Door", was sent to fans via Community after Mike finishing mixing it. He wanted everyone to know it's just the demo form of the song that he is sending and wanted fans to share it with those who don't have Community. During the IG Live, he asked fans what they wanted to hear on the bridge of the song and then recorded and editing a guitar part for it. Additionally, Mike said he is thankful for the mayor of Los Angeles for taking the coronavirus seriously and enacting quarantine measures. Mike mentioned he's taking it seriously himself as well because both he and his kids have asthmatic symptoms. While he is quarantined at home, he is working on music (amongst other things) and said that this was the third day he has worked on this song. Watch the Instagram Live video below courtesy of our friends at LinkinParkBr: And here is "Open Door"!
  25. LPU members check your emails as Linkin Park is gearing up to celebrate the 20th year of Hybrid Theory! The email sent to LPU members reads, "LP Street Soldiers, This year we are celebrating the 20th anniversary of HYBRID THEORY. We have some very special things planned throughout the year and want you to be a part of it. We’re looking for photos, videos, ticket stubs, merch, flyers, souvenirs and anything else you collected from the early days of the band in the late 90’s through the HYBRID THEORY era of 2000-2002. Some great examples include (but are not limited to) live concert footage and photos, pictures of band members and signed goodies from LPU meet and greets. All you have to do is click here and you will be taken to an upload site and asked to grant rights to Warner Records to use the content. Please upload by March 16, 2020. Any questions reach out to lpuhq@lpunderground.com - LPU HQ" Not many fans on LPLive were around in that era, but if you have some material of your own from that era definitely send it over to the band.
