mikeatron85 Posted December 12, 2012 Posted December 12, 2012 Hey guys, Bit of an interesting one. 'Razors.Out' from the film that Mike Shinoda scored, 'The Raid', has been listed by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences as a possible contender for a nomination in the category of Original Song at the Oscars: http://www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=97967 Good job Mike! Hopefully he lands a nomination, but I'm not hopeful with THAT much competition Still, nice to be acknowledged by the Academy that he could receive a nom! Quote
Geki Posted December 12, 2012 Posted December 12, 2012 It would be awesome if Razors Out could win this. It's a good song. Quote
ChuckCheese Posted December 12, 2012 Posted December 12, 2012 Very nice. It won't win, but hey, a nomination is amazing in itself. Quote
ThePretender Posted December 12, 2012 Posted December 12, 2012 Very nice. It won't win, but hey, a nomination is amazing in itself. Yeah, it's nominated for being nominated Quote
ThePretender Posted January 10, 2013 Posted January 10, 2013 The nominees are announced. No Razors.Out. Quote
mikeatron85 Posted January 11, 2013 Author Posted January 11, 2013 No surprise there Disappointed though, as I really liked that song. Kind of off-topic: I feel like the Oscars are becoming increasingly irrelevant year on year. Anyone else agree? Quote
[AndOne] Posted January 11, 2013 Posted January 11, 2013 I totally agree, the whole oscars ceremony is EXTREMELY boring. It's like 4 hours long and commercial breaks every 5 minutes. Quote
sotrix Posted January 11, 2013 Posted January 11, 2013 While I disagree that the Oscars are irrelevant (the awards and nominations are more coveted than ever) the show itself is an unnecessarily stretched out melodrama. Quote
mikeatron85 Posted January 11, 2013 Author Posted January 11, 2013 (edited) I guess I mean irrelevant in terms of the types of movies that are nominated for awards. This year being an exception, I'm quite sure the average box office of the nominated films has been on a steady decline since 07/09? And of course, big box office doesn't necessarily mean great quality... but there are some great movies that have done well at the box office, had universal critical acclaim, popular among the public yet they've been totally overlooked by the academy. And the fact that Skyfall earned what, 3-5 nominations? Irks the living hell out of me (enjoyed the movie, but feel it is severely overrated). Edited January 11, 2013 by Narc85 Quote
[AndOne] Posted January 11, 2013 Posted January 11, 2013 Oscars are not irrelevant. Win the oscar for best actor/actress and you get a massive career boost. Sadly you can only win it for a drama performance. Comedy can be has hard as drama sometimes and is hardly recognized by the academy. Also a lot of great movies never even got a nomination, like Pulp Fiction for example. You know what the academy is all about when a crap movie like Titanic gets tons of awards. Quote
1996_LP Posted January 20, 2013 Posted January 20, 2013 And the fact that Skyfall earned what, 3-5 nominations? Irks the living hell out of me (enjoyed the movie, but feel it is severely overrated). Well thats still better than the ZERO nominations "the Dark Knight Rises" got. Fair enough, we'd be delusional if we thought either had a chance at best film/director. But surely Cinematography, music or Editing would be a fair for TDKR? Guess not... Quote
