JZLP-Benningstrong Posted yesterday at 07:59 PM Share Posted yesterday at 07:59 PM Mike to Emily: "There are things about you that reminded me of Chester since the beginning. Just certain things you do, and [..] hype everybody up from the moment you show up - Chester had that kind of energy, you have that kind of energy. Not everybody can do that." Damn Mike feels the same... I definitely think that Emily its a female Chester.. MMM Posted yesterday at 10:02 PM Share Posted yesterday at 10:02 PM (edited) Emily is so much more comfortable talking, performing and I love it. WFTE story is honey on my heart. Love it. My best song next to Papercut. I love new LP more and more. After OMS I never thought I would like LP like this ever before Edited yesterday at 10:38 PM by MMM Quote Link to comment https://lplive.net/forums/topic/18429-from-zero-a-conversation-with-mike-emily-part-2/#findComment-340355 Share on other sites

OML has worst production with a lyrics first which lost them in the process; Outdated sound, trap drums everywhere, generic sampling, buried guitars, ugly nasal chester vocals, lyrics written with a label songwriters doesn't make it better. It feels like this album was not made by the band, but by Warner. So its true. It is OMS. I erased this album from my personal discography last month and i'm happy that they back to what they ment to be with FZ. Even if there is still bunch of songwriters on the album, there is big bright light in the tunnel because they have much more creativity with no deadlines like before. So they could make whole new album on their own even if they still work with Elisondo or someone else who could have good ideas in their minds. Agreed on everything to add just a bit more it's an album that killed the band... just look at Brad he was physically and mentally tired of being in the band, Chester needed time to fix his personal issues, Rob had some injuries and the rest of the guys specially Mike needed time off to get more new ideas not to hire tons of producers and writers to create an album. Definitely after THP the band needed a long hiatus to comeback with full energy and fresh ideas. I deleted almost every song i only listen to Nobody, Friendly and OML (title track) Quote Link to comment https://lplive.net/forums/topic/18429-from-zero-a-conversation-with-mike-emily-part-2/#findComment-340360 Share on other sites

NCSM have so much potential and they made it so blank. Sometimes I have feeling that I could rework this song to be much better on my own. Cut of that chipmunks, Louder octaves guitar parts in chorus (louder 3rd guitar from stems not 2nd), more heavier vocals from chester and more distinctive synth would make it top 10 song in catalog. But it is what it is. I think we will have bright future with LP9 and more. Trumtram
Yeah, I have listened once to "From Zero" this year, I think. Moved on super quick from it. It's a good album with some great songs, but I feel my passion is not the same anymore. It is, what it is. Totally feel the same, it's not me hating on Emily orstuff like that, I'll support them and I stand by their side, but I stoped listening to the album in full like before Christmas or so... I will look forward about new music by the band but it's not the same level of hype and love Quote Link to comment https://lplive.net/forums/topic/18429-from-zero-a-conversation-with-mike-emily-part-2/#findComment-340382 Share on other sites
Trumtram
Yeah, no hate towards Emily or anything. She is great and does a super job both live and on the album. It's just... I feel no real connection to the new LP anymore. Chester's voice was more crucial for me personally than I would've thought. Fun music, some cool songs, but it's also a bit... bland overall, to be honest. Then again, it has been that way for over 10 years now (7 of which were a hiatus). I'll just be happy for all the anniversary stuff and anything with Chester on it. And, of course, I will always check out new LP stuff, for sure. I totally understand what you mean and once in a while I still have doubts and it feels weird to listen trademark Chester songs w someone else on vocals but I found a way in my heart to understand and accept it. Probably it helped that I was one of the very first LPL members that found some clues that pointed to Emily and when I listened to her voice I became a believer and then the comeback show happened and IT WAS HER that's the moment where I found peace. but I get it Chester's voice its one of a kind, very unique Quote Link to comment https://lplive.net/forums/topic/18429-from-zero-a-conversation-with-mike-emily-part-2/#findComment-340384 Share on other sites

Like I said, Emily is doing incredible and it has nothing to do with her. But my emotional connection to the band was mostly carried by Chester, and it influenced me greatly (you know what I talk about as someone from back in the day). The best way to describe it is, in fact, getting some closure and being happy for all the moments that LP provided me while I was growing up and entering adulthood. Now that I think about it, none of the "From Zero" songs make me FEEL. Sure, TEM gets me pumped and "Two Faced" is a fun little banger. But I didn't have any instance of me going "Wow, this is incredible, damn". I just outgrew my LP phase after all, I guess. In simple words i think that you kinda like From Zero but its like an album from a new band it isn't Linkin Park for you and that's fine man its cool to still see you around, being honest im excited for my show but not totally crazy like in the old days. RogueSoul
Interesting to read all these retrospectives on the album. Personally, I can agree that I don’t really listen to the WHOLE album anymore but I do make sure to spin whatever tracks pop up in my shuffle, as I would any LP song. Maybe its because of the duty I have with this website but TEM fills me with inspiration and I’ll always feel that adrenaline of “damn, this is the first new song my favorite band released in about 7 years” and I get sent straight back to September. I think this era will be largely less about the music for me and more about the memories I’ve been making with the friends I haven’t seen in years and the places I’ll be going. When LP last toured I was 17. I just turned 25 at the start of the month - I’m a grown ass man and nearly a completely different person than back then, AND I now will be going with my best friends to see multiple shows in the summer. FZ simply just kinda changed the tide of my life when I was going through a lot, and I will always cherish it for that reason. Kinda the same idea of how Mike said he feels connections to the song not for their sound but for the story of it coming together. And for the record, OML is a phenomenal lil album. people take things too seriously, say what you will about the production and sound but you can’t deny the band were at least TRYING to tap into a side of their songwriting that they hadn’t before. The lyrics are much more honest and visceral than most songs on THP, for example. To me, OML isn’t the music of the kids who made HT but the adults who came that far and have different things to lose and worry about. As I get older the songs make that much more sense to me. OML still Top 3 for me. Quote Link to comment https://lplive.net/forums/topic/18429-from-zero-a-conversation-with-mike-emily-part-2/#findComment-340398 Share on other sites
