  1. Info about the stunt:

A large crowd gathered in front of the Miracle Mile Shops at Planet Hollywood to watch magician Steve Wyrick's "Death Drop" escape stunt. Linkin Park frontman Chester Bennington, who is co-owner of Club Tattoo, hosted the event to coincide with the opening of the business.

As hundreds filled the sidewalks and streets in front of Planet Hollywood, Bennington, assisted by members of his side-project band Dead by Sunrise, shackled Wyrick and locked him inside one of the band's equipment boxes.

"Are you guys ready to see something amazing tonight?" Bennington asked the crowed, which roared in response.

Plans called for the box to be hoisted into the air, supported by a few thin ropes and dangled over a bed of 500 flaming spikes 80 feet below. The ropes would then be set on fire, forcing Wyrick to make his escape before the last rope broke.

But in reality, the stunt played out a little differently.

"This has never been done before, so anything can happen" Wyrick said before climbing into the box.

After Wyrick was locked inside, the crewmembers went to light the ropes, igniting a black netting that was shielding the box from view. Much ado was made about the flaming veil, then emergency personnel responded as the box was whisked from view.

"Apparently something's gone wrong" Bennington said. "Steve's had a bit of an accident"

A helicopter then arrived, presumably responding to Wyrick's medical emergency. As it landed on Las Vegas Boulevard between Planet Hollywood and CityCenter, Wyrick suddenly appeared from the helicopter, receiving applause from the crowd.

It wasn't the 20-foot jump from the burning box over the bed of spikes the crowd had been promised. While some cheered, others were disappointed the stunt hadn't gone "as planned".

"It looked believable that he was hurt, but for him to all of a sudden arrive in a helicopter? I'm sorry. I'm disappointed" said Charleton Lupica of Gulf Shores, Ala.

  2. Chester Bennington has told NME.COM that he believes his band's headline slot at this year's Sonisphere festival provides them with the perfect opportunity to become the best live act in the world. Bennington said the he thinks Muse are currently the band to beat in the live arena, but he's confident that Linkin Park will be able to equal the Devon trio's high standards when they headline the Sonisphere festival on August 1.

"They're one of the best - if not the best - live performing bands in the world at the moment," he said about Muse, adding "We need to fucking kick some ass."

The singer also singled out Metallica – who headline the second day of Sonisphere on August 2 – as friendly rivals, saying: "I think those kind of bands elevate you as a player. You either need to shoot up and show up or you need to put your tail between your legs and hope you get through it."

The frontman also confirmed that Linkin Park will play new single 'New Divide' at their Sonisphere gig. The band are currently in the studio with Rick Rubin, recording the follow up to 2007 album 'Minutes To Midnight'.

5 songs... will be really cool.

  5. I vote for Yes, because we have Fort Minor, we have Grey Daze dates, why not add Snax dates too. Each of these bands - FM, GD had only 1 member of LP, as Snax did too.

Plus, I have a few show notes to add to the Snax section :)

  11. It would make sense and clear things up nicely, but as said, Phoenix is in the NPA video and didn't rejoin the band until October.

Yeah, I don't know why I didn't pay attention to the presence of Phoenix during watching this video. lol

  12. The pogo is a dance where the dancers jump up and down, while remaining in the same location; the dance takes its name from its resemblance to the use of a pogo stick, especially in a common version of the dance, where an individual keeps their torso stiff, their arms rigid, and their legs close together.

While similar to the religious dances of the Pentecostal faith and various African tribes, pogo dancing is perhaps most associated with punk rock, as both performers and audience members at punk rock performances often pogo; a pogo mob is a group of pogo dancers at a punk concert.

In The Filth and the Fury, Sex Pistols bassist Sid Vicious claims that he invented the pogo sometime around 1976. At punk shows in the early days of London's punk scene, Vicious wanted to dance to the Sex Pistols before he was a Pistol himself but he couldn't dance so he started jumping up and down and pogoing was born. Whether Vicious actually invented the dance or not, the pogo quickly became closely associated with punk rock. Shane MacGowan, himself an early follower of the punk scene, also attributes pogo dancing to Vicious, claiming that a leather poncho he wore to gigs prevented him from any other form of dancing except jumping up and down. Jon King of Gang of Four helped popularize the pogo as a stage move for performers.

In the following years, stage diving, crowd surfing, moshing and hardcore dancing all became associated with pogo dancing, though some of these activities predate the pogo.

    One Video Closer

    By wookubus

    (3:07 AM PST 09/01/2000)

Linkin Park will be recording their show at the Roxy in Los Angeles on September 5th and will possibly using some of the live footage from it in the forthcoming video for their current single, "One Step Closer". The track is the first single from the groups upcoming debut album "Hybrid Theory" which was produced by Don Gilmore and will see a release on October 24th through Warner Bros.

At first, I thought that this source is unreliable, so I didn't pay any attention to this. There was no such show in the guide. Then I browsed through old archived LP fansites and found a broken link in Downloads section of one of them. The link says: LIVE | 09.05.00 Linkin Park - One Step Closer.ram

So they really filmed this video and showed it on TV. Does anyone have it?
