  1. That is mostly because What I've Done and A Light that Never Comes share the same chord progression. Try singing What I've Done on top of the piano.

That's what I was referring to, and the same with Burning In The Skies, New Divide, and I'll Be Gone. Except the song is WAY too similar to What I've Done, down to the fact that it's played in the same key and the chorus guitar parts are so close.

  2. I'm going to attempt to make a more "Minutes To Midnight" styled remix of the song, because I am not really sure I can make the song heavy, but I can try. For one thing, I can tell everyone right now that it's going to sound ridiculously close to "What I've Done", not that it's a bad thing, but geez.. the song is so similar, especially when you start stripping it down. There are so many little issues in the song like backing vocals being out of sync with the lead vocals at parts, the guitar work literally being slapped together, idk I feel they didn't spend enough time on it. Steve's EDM stuff completely hides most of the mistakes, though. I hope I can make it before the deadline (are we sure it's the 20th?) I want to finally participate in one.

  3. Yeah I figured it was tied into the lyrical theme of nuclear war and such, I see the explosion and the light being shot at you through the paper, but I also see a bird, and anything else's weird my mind comes up with after staring at it. I think it's open to interpretation like Ducko said. And whatever it is, it somehow amazingly goes well with the album theme, it's so bland but it's really nice, I wonder what new listeners think of it. And the way they made the disc art go with the packet and the backing paper is pretty cool.

Any news on a "A Light That Never Comes" remix? I want those stems.. Lmao.

  4. Take Roads Untravelled as an example. Just before the last section/chorus or whatever you wanna call, you can hear the guitar sound/pick touching off the string. The majority will not what I'm referring too and I think we all agree its a mistake. The band or somebody should have noticed that and removed it but they didn't. It just shows lack of care. Even the music videos are beyond weak now.

I'm imagine we'll see LT songs fazed out from the live show quicker than expected.

I don't agree with you saying it's a mistake, there was nothing playing and there was nothing to mess up in the first place. Me being a guitar player who records, when I'm doing patchwork on my guitar tracks, I'll mess around until the part I am suppose to record comes in, so I have random stuff going on that I end up cutting out afterwards, therefore I think Mike or Brad were doing guitar patch ups and were playing random stuff until the part he was focused on came up, went back to edit the part they recorded it, and figured "oh hey that sounds cool " and tried cleaning it up. They are pretty defined picks at the string to just be a mistake. And you can hear the ambience in the room when it is played, so it was reverbed, and I SWEAR it fades in very quickly. Just my opinion, it makes sense to me atleast.
  5. I wouldn't get my hopes too high about an heavy LP record :P

I mean, of course there is a possibility this heavy stuff will have an influence, but it's also probable that Mike will listen to more mellow stuff in 2 months from now, and that this hypothetical mellow mood will end up being the most noticeable influence on the next record.

What happened with MTM and "It will be our heaviest record yet" has told me to be careful with expectations about heavy LP music. Until I hear the music, I will not believe in it.

great point, I am trying to not fall into the belief that it'll be heavy, but I won't tell myself it won't be, either. Ill be happy either way, especially since Mike said it won't sound like Recharged, so no EDM or dubstep. Lol

  6. WID is my all time favorite LP song, so I'm a sucker for the songs they keep recreating it with. New Divide, BITS, IBG and now ALTNC. It's funny because BITS has always been my favorite song from ATS and IBG has always been my favorite song from LT more or less, next to Powerless. I like ALTNC as well. Loved New Divide when it first came out in 2009, but I hated it ever since. Goes to show I am a sucker. Lol.

Dude, I can't agree with you enough! BITS is easily one of my favorite songs by LP and I am a fan from back when "In The End" was just a single and was plastered all over the radio stations and MTV. I'm bipolar (no joke) so I can never pick a favorite song, the mood changes to damn much for me. xD I just love LP. When New Divide came out, I was blown away from how awesome it was, but it sounded familiar and I didn't get why, but then I saw a video mashing up WID with ND and I was astonished at how similar they were. And now ALTNC. Even Katy Perry used the same chord progression in one of her songs I heard on the radio hours before I heard ALTNC, as soon as I heard the chorus of the song I was pissed, it's such a catchy progression, but so overused. I mean, I like ALTNC, but it's too.. Steve-ish to be on a LP album. I am hoping they do a remix contest so I can get my hands on the stems and make a remix. The Rubin Reboot was a let down IMO. :/

Its probably just me but I'm kind of sick of the whole special effect things that LP have been doing with their videos recently. It would be good to see them go back to basics and just do something normal.

Me too, man. My all time favorite video is Somewhere I Belong; spacious, has meaning, they look like badasses from the early 2000's because they were, it was just awesome. And I love Burning In The Skies' video, all slow motion, very powerful. This new stuff is just a waste to me, it does nothing for me. Whenever they show their faces you can't even make them out from each other half the time, how are you suppose to enjoy that? Oh well, I guess it goes with the theme of the music.

  7. After hearing the guitar in the LPTV episodes where they show how the song was made and everything, it's so obvious they stole the chorus progression from What I've Done. It bothers me so much. It also bothers me on how badly they buried the guitar behind all of the other.. "stuff"

  8. Probably referring to a standalone recorder, not an 8-track tape (those went out of style by the early 80s and disappeared entirely long before Xero even formed). Plus I'm pretty sure it was a 4-track. His exact quote was something along the lines of "Having the Pro Tools rig is nice, when we did Hybrid Theory I had a 4-track taped to the ceiling!" He was probably using a Tascam Portastudio or something like that back then.

Also, the "not recording anything in analog" quote is false, as the Xero demos were done on a 4-track recorder that recorded straight to cassette.

I just watched the video again, and I definitely misunderstood and misinterpreted that quote, thanks for correcting me.

  9. This isn't exactly a question, but it has been bugging me for quite awhile now (pretty pathetic that I constantly think about this), but I SWEAR, I have watched an interview on YouTube with Mike, saying how he can't recall if the band had ever actually recorded something in analog. Yet, in the "Making of Meteora" documentary, Rob says something along the lines of "During the Hybrid Theory days, I would have had 8 tracks stacked up to the ceiling of drum recordings with different variations." This was when he was introducing the Pro Tools rig to the camera telling how easy it had made his life making a drum track, and then learning how to play it rather than the other way around. So he used 8 tracks to record drums in Hybrid Theory? Maybe I'm mentally retarded and I'm missing something, or maybe the video of Mike doesn't exist, but I swear it does.

  10. I could have sworn I read somewhere that there would be a remix contest for ALTNC. I would assume that means yes, if not the multitracks like for the LITE contest.

I would be so freaking happy if they released the stems like they did for Lost In The Echo. I do hope they do a remix contest because I know a lot of people would enjoy it and make awesome (and terrible dubstep) versions.

  11. As a beginner in editing vocals, is there an easy way to achieve the stutter-type effect on Mike's vocals in songs like Papercut, Faint, etc?

You cut the wavelength of a recording into pieces, leaving gaps. The gaps make a stuttering effect, and the process takes forever considering if you're milliseconds off, it will sound terrible. Or you could mess with a tremelo effect/ plug in. Or a plug in designed to do it on it's own. It's all done in the studio.

I haven't read anything above to know if this has been brought up yet, or if I'm the first....

New LP album called RECHARGED? Someone please clarify this, thank you

It says it's going to be a "reinterpretation" of LIVING THINGS, so maybe it'll be what Reanimation was to Hybrid Theory? Comes out October 29th. I hope this isn't the "New album" they've been working on along side the Soundtrack from Hahn's movie, I wanted NEW new material.

  13. In "She Couldn't", I thought Chester said "You know, she couldn't stay with you" but it was "Even though, she couldn't stay here with you" and when Mos Def's sample came in, I thought for the longest time it was Mike's voice and I couldn't make out what it said for some reason.
