Yeah, you got a point there,I'm just feeling positive about the future of this whole thing

Me too! A new Era seems to be upon us. We all kinda need one. Theres been a lot of going backwards in time lately (thankfully because we got new old music) but we want a better closure at the end of all this. It’s been one hell of a journey as LP fans, especially for those day 1 underground street soldiers

As far as the reddit/youtube comments, they're always gonna be there to some extent, but also they're gonna die down as the band actually gets out there & starts being active again. People will accept the new identity (those who won't, will either move on, or stay in comment sections as a complaining minority).

Right now a lot of that comes from the fear of the unknown combined with grief after Chester's passing, because many people still haven't moved on.

Yeah this sounds realistic. And that’s also why I wanted to be careful in my comment about those grieving, it’s okay to feel sad and be reminded and feel sad again and I think to various levels we all feel that way as time goes on. But it doesn’t seem healthy to constantly put yourself in those emotions and consistently bring it up whenever possible, especially in hopes to gain sympathy, because at that point it comes off as selfish and needy for attention. Theres a massive group of these types of people who seem to feed off one another’s similar comments and emotions and it’s like they’re all stirring in their own big pot of sadness for 7 years while Mike is like “Yep. So here’s an album, here’s a bunch of singles, here’s some songs I produced for fans, here’s new unreleased LP, time to hire a new singer (if that’s actually true) and the list goes on, while having been one of the closest people to Chester. Mike makes a great example of moving on and not wallowing in his sadness. But like you said, there’s really not stopping these sort of comments moving forward, probably not for another decade till people finally get tired of their own repetitive thoughts 💭

If they went with a guy and Alex McMillan could work a bit more on his screams he'd be a good fit. He sounds close enough to Chester but doesn't mimic him in the same way that Hybrid Theory try to.

You could even add two vocalists one male and one female if you wanna cover a few bases.

Mike literally said he wouldn’t ever hire a chester sound alike or even work with someone who sounds like Mike himself! And I hate to say it but Alex definitely mimics Chester thus the thousand LP covers because he understands he can utilize his tonality to support his music career and I don’t blame him one bit. I would do exactly the same if I had the pipes and tone like him. It’s working out for him. But it would be really weird and kind of disrespectful to Chester to put him in the actual band. How would Chester feel if he were still around and Mike used a “sound alike” to replace Chester? Not a good move. The same goes for Dimitris P. No hate if they’re reading this but it’s true.

I like to call it "play the poor victim to gain sympathy and popularity on the internet". It's obviously a lie, but those people like to be the center of attention for all the wrong reasons

Straight facts. Some people are seriously addicted to that like count. “Wow thanks for all the likes!” Yeah here’s your trophy 🏆 for most liked sympathetic award 😂

I realized years ago that no matter what happens, there will be people acting like it's disrespectful to Chester's memory to do it and the worst possible decision ever.

So whenever LP does officially announce anything, I'll talk about it here on LPL but I'll absolutely avoid comment sections about it on every single other platform. It'll be messy and full of melodrama no matter what.

I second this so much. I will avoid YouTube comment section and especially reddit because that’s where I see the most repetition. I hate to call this one out because I understand everyone’s on their own timeline but even after 7 years, I cannot stand seeing those comments along the lines of “Ever since Chester died I haven’t been able to be happy and move on”. It’s some form of “I’m stuck and sad and depressed” but Mike clearly moved on years ago so why can’t they? This is one of those types of comments I just don’t understand. Or the “I haven’t been able to listen to LP ever since then” then why are you commenting on a LP video? It’s weird.

I've seen the "a female singer is the best way to avoid comparisons to Chester" argument a lot in the last few months and I just don't think that is true at all. No matter what they do next, there will be comparisons to the work they did with Chester. There's simply no way to avoid that. Also, everything Linkin Park has released since 2004 (yep, many people hated Collision Course) has caused a big shitshow in the community, so I don't expect their next move to be any different.

I agree and even I fell for that argument till I realized what it actually will do is continue the polarizing switch up their known for. That’s the only thing I think female vocals will accomplish for their sound moving forward, is how different of a band they will sound in ways like every other album in retrospect.

I am on board with them coming back with a female vocalist but for the love of God, hire a producer who KNOWS how to work with a female vocalist. If they wing it it won't be as good.

What makes you think a man Like Mike Shinoda isn’t fit? I don’t even have to put the list of names of female vocalist he’s produced because someone else has. But it’s also not as deep as you think it is when it comes to producing vocals generally speaking. If Mike spent the last 24+ years recording vocals into Pro tools then I’m pretty positive he knows what to do. He’s only the guy who formed Linkin Park for crying out loud 😂 What he can do with a male vocalist, he can do with a female vocalist. Literally the only difference is what frequency range they belong in, everything else is the same exact technical approaches in pro tools and in the recording process, believe me.

  7. I’ve got an itch (without a cure) that Mike and this female vocalist will intertwine in a really cool way we’re all not expecting. I think about the song The Catalyst for example, how Mike and Chester’s voices basically fuse into one in some moments of the song with a mixing trick. But imagine Mike singing intertwined with a female lead or his backing vocals done in a way that really compliments her style. Of course you could imagine his rapping but if she’s got this edge to her vocals that really serves Mike’s production than I think we’re all in for a special treat. You just gotta be open minded and throughout LP’s history they are known for 180’s and unexpected plot twists in their sound. Mike has been working with SO many vocalist including female and I can only think he’s been collecting a lot of insight using those sessions in order to move forward with something exciting. I can imagine Brad’s excitement listening to new material in Mike’s studio and I can already imagine LPTV’s of their new process. We have a lot to look forward to if this ends up being true.

Alright,  looks like the rumors were at least partially true.

About the female singer :  IMO, that is the best strategy the band could possibly go for. It should minimize comparisons with Chester and accentuate the feeling of a fresh start. I just hope the vocalist they hire will be versatile enough to handle both the smooth, vulnerable parts as well as the screamy, shouted parts. Chester could seamlessly switch between both, and I think it contributed a lot to the DNA of he band.  I'd try to be as open as can be to a new singer, but one who could only perform well on one side of the spectrum would right away loose points in my book (no pressure 😛 )

About Rob & Joe : the Rob thing is a bit the elephant in the room. Honestly: I think he is out for good. And if that's the case, that's a bummer, because he was probably the most skilled instrumentalist in the band. I am more surprised about Joe, but on the other end, I think his input on the band sound has been more "minimal" - no disrespect, of course I'd prefer him to be in.

Anyway, if true, pretty curious to see how this will all unfold!

it’s a drummer bummer. *ignore me*

  9. I totally respect Mike's opinion on it and i can only imagine how he feels having written all that music, especially in this particular time of his career. Personally, I am neutral over cover bands for LP or any band in general. I even encouraged someone to join an LP cover band because they are an amazing vocalist. To each their own, is what i say.

Oh I thought OP was talking about the light crash, but yeah I agree with this for that snare sound. And the technique you're talking about is most obvious in the beginning of Heavy imo

To me it sounds like a clap stacked on top of the snare to give it some variety. I'd really love more breakdowns of OML instrumentals, there's a lot of interesting color in there

Oh me too! I know LP filmed every album process (besides HT, maybe?) But one day we will finally get to see behind the scenes of OML and all that went into it's process. I just want a making of for that album, also for THP that would be so sick. At least we got LPTV's. But yeah all those colors in OML make it their most colorful album sonically. I am sure i'll continue to hear little sounds or quirks in the mix i didin't hear before as the years go by, that's what makes a pop record fun, more so Mike's pop production cause it's Linkin Parkified, as Pheonix would say. Lots of layers to pick out inside of a very polished, well thought out album.

    😮

If this rumor of Linkin Park is true than the only female that comes to mind that might pull it off is Jennifer Weist. She and Mike Shinoda played together A Place For My Head in Belin 2019.

woah i love her energy and sound. I personally hope this is all true about a female lead. Females bring an energy males simply cannot, not even Chester, I'm sorry bit it's just true.

How exactly are they too close to Chester's style? Is it just because they are both good vocalists who can sing beautifully and scream? The music they make sounds nothing like anything Linkin Park has done and their vocal styles sound nothing like Chester's.

Linkin Park has always been a "we need to play all of our singles" kind of band. They need someone who is versatile in order to perform their greatest hits live and in order to keep experimenting with new genres like they have always done. It wouldn't be Linkin Park anymore if they just stick to playing super generic music that anyone in the world can perform.

I know it wont ever happen but i seriously thought the singer from sum 41 was a great fit after that faint performance with shinoda. He has a great tone for Linkin Park moving forward but even he knows he's no replacement for chester which i agree, but still his tone is very fitting IMO for the band's music.

About the instrumental: I really like the guitar work on the track. It's subtle, smooth, and full of finesse.

On the other end, I don't get why the drop hit (of whatever you call it) was mixed or done to sound so..... thin?  The best example I have of it is at the 1:27 mark. When the tension is released, there is that "splaaah" sound (drum/sample/both). And honestly, that sound, I find it unpleasant, to the point it slightly, and non-metaphorically, hurt my ears.

Weird choices on the sound-design department have been my biggest complain about that era in general - this is another occurrence of it.

You've got a keen ear for audio engineering if you can pinpoint such small details like this. I noticed it's then used in the ''fire'' chorus section, so i believe that drop hit is a blended snare sound to help set up in that moment the chorus snare, cause it's the same ongoing sound from there. That had to be a mike move, because i learned this technique from Mike and apply it to my songs sometimes. Every other snare, I'll add a sampled layer or a reverb tail or something so the snare doesn't sound to redundant in its tone.

Damn, it's like fast food. Instant delivery.

haha! Good thing I am in the middle of making a new EP so It was simply getting a rip of his acapella from the OG track 4 weeks ago off YouTube and working some studio magic around his vocals.

  15. Personally, i see no issue with the title nor the album cover. ATS is pretty basic, but it worked. I think the band went with something simplistic because i's recognizable to all generations of LP. It makes sense, plus ''Papercuts'', if that really is the title, seems like the band knew Chester's favorite song was papercut, so maybe it's to honor him for that and if that is the case, that's pretty awesome. Chester freaking loved that song, i think he would have loved the title to.
