Qwerty18
I was just wondering. Each time a journalist or a fan or anyone else ask Chester which LP song he doesn't like the most, he always answers "Runaway". And also, when he's asked which old LP songs they could bring back to the set, he often say "Hum...certainly not runaway!". I personnally think the main reason of that is the lyrics of the song, which are pretty childish IMO. But I mean, if you look at the composition in itself, it' s not that bad. Not original, but not bad. So, what is your opinion about all of this? MONDREUS240
I like the song, but it is definitely not the best song on the album. Some of the lyrics are a little...meh, specifically the chorus. But I'd rather seem them play With You or Figure.09 10X more than this live. Geki
I think it has a lot to do with the immaturity in the lyrics, or maybe he just really doesn't like the song at all. He also probably got sick of playing it, maybe that's why they stopped. If you notice, they only really play the singles from Hybrid Theory nowadays, they don't play stuff like With You, Forgotten, Cure For The Itch, Pushing Me Away, High Voltage, My December, APFMH or Points anymore, etc. Runaway actually stayed in the sets longer than songs like With You, High Voltage, Forgotten, Figure.09, Easier To Run, Hit The Floor, Nobody's Listening and more did! The last time it was played was at Bamboozle in 2007, it was my first LP show. Songs like Figure haven't been played since 2004, and Forgotten since like 2002, etc. Quote Link to comment https://lplive.net/forums/topic/7431-why-chester-hates-runaway-so-much/#findComment-143591 Share on other sites
Qwerty18
Yes, the fact they've played this song for longer than others can maybe explain why Chester is so sick of it. But for example, Points was played live for over 9 years, and the band still seems to like it, regarding the song almost made its come-back at the end of 2010. Another interesting thing which was mentionned a couple of times by the guys, Runaway was one of the song they've worked the more on during the HT era, when they were trying to give the demo "Stick'n' move" its final form. I may be wrong, but I think Chester even said in a interview they created OSC during a break they took after working on Runaway chorus for a very long moment. And finally, Runaway was achieved later. Maybe they worked so much on that song that Chester is kind of disappointed with the final product. He could be thinking "This song could have been way more badass than it is, such a shame". Alexonlyalex
It's cause he learned that running away from problems isn't really a solution Edited July 15, 2011 by AlexonlyAlex Quote Link to comment https://lplive.net/forums/topic/7431-why-chester-hates-runaway-so-much/#findComment-143635 Share on other sites
NickDuffy
Watching a 30+ year old man say "I wanna runaway and never say goodbye" is very embarrassing. I would be laughing on stage saying a line like that if I was Chester.
