Vinescence Posted Monday at 02:44 PM Posted Monday at 02:44 PM (edited) I don't know if this has been discussed, but was Already Over a decoy all along? Now that we know Linkin Park are back, and they had been writing songs for a while, I started to wonder if this whole release was planned to let LP remain in the shadows. Already Over released in October/23, which I believe was around the time Emily was asked to join the band. Let's not forget the whole "New era of Mike Shinoda music" campaign, including a hair cut and TV appearance. Then, there were the Already Over Sessions, with some with female singers covering LP songs. Maybe to also test the waters and confuse people about possible leaks? People went crazy when one of them joked she'd join the band. What are your thoughts? Edited Monday at 09:56 PM by Vinescence Quote

When they were planning the release of Meteora 20 they'd probably guess that the hype would be big, perhaps a little bit more than in Hybrid Theory 20, since they weren't grieving at that time and the world had just assumed that Chester was gone for good. But Lost makes a massive impact and the hype completely explodes in a way no one could have predicted. So yeah, the Already Over single was a way to cool down the ambience and makes us believe that Mike is keeping up with the 2020/22 route and nothing interesting is going to happen soon. We wouldn't turn our attention to LP and let them work in the shadows. Quote
martinez Posted Monday at 04:57 PM Posted Monday at 04:57 PM I think it the all stuff releated to it was only for new Mike's music. Also, the whole "New era of Mike Shinoda music" campaign started with In My Head which was released in March 2023. Quote

I remember at the time I was a bit bummed out because in my head (no pun intended) it meant Linkin Park wouldn't be coming back anytime soon. Also, disagree about it being only to Mike's music. Last year I met Adam and Lorenzo at the airport in Bogotá. I asked Lorenzo when he re-joined the band's team and he told me it was mid-2022. It seems very unlikely they weren't cooking some ideas, since those things are planned way in advance Quote
leftshoe18 Posted Monday at 07:14 PM Posted Monday at 07:14 PM (edited) I've always thought it was possible that Mike planned the release of Already Over when things were still somewhat up in the air about Linkin Park's future. But then I think that by the time the song actually released, they knew Linkin Park was coming back since that was around the time Emily officially joined the band, right? I don't think it was originally planned as a decoy, but it worked out nicely to be one. Edited Monday at 07:15 PM by leftshoe18 Quote
DCrecelius Posted Tuesday at 08:19 AM Posted Tuesday at 08:19 AM I think they gotta add this to the setlist. A full band version of this would go crazy and the song is short enough it wouldn’t add TOO much time haha Quote
JZLP-Benningstrong Posted Tuesday at 02:37 PM Posted Tuesday at 02:37 PM What you said makes sense, Mike wanted to create some spark and have people talking about the band. the song was just decent 6/10 the remixes ep of the same song was weird. the only good thing about this were the live sessions, the COG, Faint and RTN performances were awesome.
