    - This date was discovered in July 2013 when the band was promoting the Sunset Strip Music Festival. This flyer was in Mike's personal collection and was given to LPLive as the site and other fansites participated in "Throwback Week" before the show.

    - Grey Daze's manager Kerry Rose talking about this show for Grey Daze Story: "About six months later, Chester called to say his new band was playing a show at the Big Fish Pub in Tempe. So, the first time I saw Hybrid Theory was in a small club in front of about 50 people. They were amazing. I knew then that they were destined for big things. Their first album was incredible. The rest is history".

    - In January 2018, it was discovered that the band performed a second show in Tempe the following night.

This was on Stocker Street in Glendale, the source of the "Ten PM Stocker" alternate band name idea and the story of Mike's neighbors getting mad about the noise while Chester was recording the vocals for 'One Step Closer'.

    - "Mike Galaxy Presents" Indy Hits Showcase was a weekly event aimed on music industry exposure for independent bands. It was usually held every Thursday at the now closed club called The Gig-Hollywood. Mike Galaxy himself confirmed the show for LPLive and believes this was Chester's very first show with the band: "They were signed after labels saw them at my showcase [...] Unfortunately I do not remember the date of their performance. I think it was the first show ever with singer Chester Bennington. Yes at the Gig on Melrose which is closed several years ago".

    - The show was added to the guide in November 2016.

    - March 20th, 2001 article written by Mike Galaxy reads: "Formerly Halogen, Dr. Lady was one of Music Connection's best 100 unsigned bands of 2000. The band has had several gigs recently including opening for Slash at the House of Blues and for Hybrid Theory at the Troub". The band has changed it's name to Dr. Lady around early 2001, so they definitely were still called Halogen at the time. The band then ultimately changed it's name to Orson. Mike Galaxy has confirmed the show for LPLive in November 2016.

    - In the LPU chat on April 20th, 2015 Brad said his 2015.04.18 appearance at the Jakob Dylan show was his first time performing at The Troubadour. He discussed working at the Roxy and playing other clubs in Los Angeles both growing up and with Linkin Park, but said he had never played The Troubadour until this show, so it was an exciting moment for him. However, Lee Cadena's (Rap Editor at Urban Network Magazine and the creator of the Rapology CD series that started an artist management and development company in 1998 called LCM which worked with Xero) bio reads: "The first group he consulted was Xero, they changed their name to Hybrid Theory and Lee would introduce them at famous Hollywood spots like, The Whiskey and The Troubadour", so it's possible Brad is not actually correct on that statement.

However, it did not appear on the Kottonmouth Kings website with the rest of the tour dates and isn't listed on a venue website archive. It is unknown if this show even occurred, so we have it added as a canceled show unless more information eventually surfaces. - This is the only show that Relative Degree played together. The band consisted of Brad, Rob, Mark Wakefield, and Dave Garrett (bass player from the band Karma).

    - The show was filmed on Mark Wakefield's camcorder.

    - In the LPU 1.0 Newsletter, Rob said, "Brad and I, along with the bass player from Karma and some other high school friends started our own band called Relative Degree. Mike was making beats for a lot of local MCs at this time, but would come by and watch us practice sometimes. He never joined the band but would occasionally put his samples into our songs. Relative Degree sounded a lot like the band 311- it was rock with a funky incorporation of hip hop and rap elements. Our dream for the band was to play a gig at The Roxy, a popular club for up and coming bands, located on Sunset Blvd. in Hollywood, CA. When the goal was reached, the band just stopped practicing and lost focus, eventually leading to a break up and a separation of ways."

    - An MTV article from 2002 said, "It all began when Bourdon and Delson were in high school and played together in a band called Relative Degree. "We set a goal to play one show at the Roxy [in West Hollywood]," Bourdon said. "That was our big goal, so we wrote 12 songs, rehearsed for a year, played that show at the Roxy and then broke up. That was the end of Relative Degree." Shinoda, a classmate of Delson's and Bourdon's, crashed a few Relative Degree practices and fostered a strong friendship with Delson. He created a few samples for them but was more interested in making beats for local MCs. "We always just figured we were in two different worlds," said Delson, whose head looks naked when not wrapped in his signature headphones."

    - In a 2011 LPU chat, Rob said, "Relative Degree played 1 show and then finished, their goal was to sell out the Roxy so when they accomplished that goal they stopped."

    - The date of this performance was confirmed in the MTV The Ride documentary. The image included on this page is taken from that documentary.

    - Show photos provided by Dave Garrett. One of them was used in the artwork for the Xero demo tapes.

    Taper: Marc Ostrick

    Time: 2.5 hours~

    Format: ?

Comments: Filmed by Marc Ostrick for his "Lockout" documentary series that was first uploaded to YouTube in 2006 (1, 2). For the full raw footage, over $10,000 is wanted.

Notes: Yes Song No 1: xx Song Name 1: Rhinestone Song Notes 1: Forgotten demo Song No 2: xx Song Name 2: Slip Song Notes 2: Post LPU 11 Version Song No 3: xx Song Name 3: Esaul Song Notes 3: A Place For My Head demo Show Notes:

    - In the video footage that is shown during the documentary, we can see Hybrid Theory rehearsing three songs. The rehearsal was two and a half hours long and until the full footage is obtained, the setlist is incomplete. They played early versions of 'A Place For My Head' ('Esaul' at the time) and 'Forgotten' ('Rhinestone' at the time) as well as 'Slip', which was unknown from 2006 until 2011, when it was released on the LP Underground 11 album. While we know 'Esaul' and 'Rhinestone' were definitely played live, this is the only known performance of 'Slip'.

    - The performance of 'Slip' is a different version of the song (probably "further along" song-wise/a more worked-on version) than the version released on the LP Underground 11 album.

    - Joe is seen scratching DJ Qbert's "100mph Backsliding Turkey Kuts" vinyl while playing a beat from DJ Babu's "Super Duck Breaks...The Saga Begins."

    Other Notes:

    - The band's rehearsal space at the time called HiFi Hollywood was located on Hollywood Boulevard and Vine Street. They would rehearse there for upwards of six hours a day during the week.

    - Scott Koziol is on bass in this performance.

    - The date for this rehearsal was found in May 2016. The exact name of the rehearsal studio was found in October 2016.

  8. 1999.11.12 Fullerton, California

Photo Icon: Yes Year: 1999 Month: 11 Day: 12 Show Date: 10/12/1999 Previous Show: 2000andearlier/19990902 URL Link: 2000andearlier/19991112 Next Show: 2000andearlier/2000xxxx City: Fullerton State: California State Abbr: CA Country: United States Country Abbr: US Venue: The Backalley Venue Type: Bar/Club Event/Festival: Opening for Alien Ant Farm Event/Festival Italics: Yes Other Bands:

Alien Ant Farm, Hoobustank, *, Boy Hits Car, Kundalini

Show Category: showwithoutsources Notes: 0 Song No 1: 01 Song Name 1: Unknown Other Notes:

    - The Backalley was opened from 1997 to 2001, then closed, then reopened as The Alley, then closed around 2008-2009. The venue should not be confused with The Back Alley Bar & Grill that is a totally different (and unrelated) club that is currently situated on the same street.

    - This show was added to the live guide in September 2016 after the discovery of news clippings from November 1999 advertising the show. It was, however, addressed in a few different sources several times before that. The LATimes article from December 1st, 2005 titled "Age-appropriate entertainment" mentions: "This is actually the second go-round for Barnum's club. He ran the Backalley at this same locale from 1997 until 2001, booking mostly weekend shows (some which wound up being more historic than others, like the night when then-unknowns Hoobastank and Hybrid Theory -- later to become Linkin Park -- shared a bill)".

When rockrevoltmagazine.com asked members of Boy Hits Car about their best memories of them teaming up with big names in music industry over the years, the band members also seemingly recalled this show: "Supporting Stone Temple Pilots in Europe, playing festivals that were headlined by names like Iggy & the Stooges, Eminem, or The Prodigy, gigging at LA clubs in the mid 90’s with bands like Incubus, System of a Down, and Linkin Park before they really broke, then supporting em all years later, generally sharing stages with so many great artists and bands in general…".

Kundalini's bio on their Soundcloud page reads: "Originally formed in Nashville, Tennessee with Danny's brother Marcos on bass and Brian Rhodes singing, after a short period of time the band decided to relocate to Southern California. Ian Horak and Damian Young both played bass at various points in their history and the band enjoyed playing with several prominent bands of that time period such as: Hybrid Theory (Linkin Park), Papa Roach, Hoobastank and Alien Ant Farm".

    - This is the band's second known show in The Backalley, with the first one being their 1999.08.20 gig.

    - "Hoobustank" was the actual spelling Hoobastank went with at the time.

    - The Pricks opened Hoobastank's (spelled Hoobustank at the time) very first show in the summer of 1995 at Doug Robb's parents' backyard.

    - Hoobastank filmed their set in VHS. It was confirmed by Dan Estrin in an interview to AltWire in 2022 that the VHS includes The Pricks footage as well.

    - Members of both bands had been friends since long before The Pricks was formed and to prepare for the show they stole stages from their local high school in the middle of the night, set them up in Doug's backyard and hired security, charging a dollar for admission. Around 150 people were in attendance.

    - This date was discovered in January 2018 when researching Hybrid Theory (band) dates.

    - Reportedly, almost no one came to the show. The band took a long time to get prepared to play and ran way into their set time. The promoter told them to end their set and the band refused, so the promoter cut the sound and the band continued playing with the power to the PA off.

    - According to a different report, the band had technical problems with instruments and microphones during the show. Chester got so pissed, he threw his mic and left the stage, but Mike rushed after him promising everything will get fixed.

    - According to a member of the band Size 5, Hybrid Theory opened for Size 5 that night. The band consisted of Jay and John Kereny (Lemon Krayola), Barton Applewhite (Kongo Shock) and Chuck Moore - close friends of Chester and Grey Daze. Size 5 also served as Chester's backing band for his pre-production live session when he was preparing himself to record his audition tape for Xero. The band was also thanked by Chester in Hybrid Theory booklet.

    - According to a concert listing from Arizona Republic's August 26th, 1999 issue, the band PHD were the headlining act for the night.

    - This show was a frat house Halloween party at Tau Kappa Epsilon (TKE) Delta Theta Chapter at California State University. Thanks to Dave Garrett for the venue name and songs played.
    - The band members were dressed as characters from the movie Dead Presidents.
    - Xero entered the studio on August 25, 1998 to record a demo produced by Darryl Swan. Afterwards, Jeff Blue sent out the demo to record labels and the only one who showed interest was Danny Goodwin (VP of A&R at Virgin Records). He was in the audience for this show and passed on the band citing how off key Mark Wakefield sounded live.
    - In the unauthorized documentary "Conspiracy Theory", Mike Giangreco (Brad's boss at The Roxy and Whisky A Go Go) recalls the band used to borrow his sound systems for free to play at frat parties. The only condition was that they'd carry everything themselves and put them back in his garage afterwards.

    - This was a showcase for Gary Kurfist from Radioactive Records / MCA Records. According to Jeff Blue's "One Step Closer: From Xero to #1: Becoming Linkin Park" book, he loved the band but passed on them because Chester accidentally spat on his face while singing.

Rehearsal Studios Venue Type: Studio Event/Festival Heading: Event: Event/Festival: Warner Bros. Records Showcase Event/Festival Italics: 0 Show Category: showwithoutsources Notes: 0 Other Notes:

    - According to Jeff Blue's "One Step Closer: From Xero to #1: Becoming Linkin Park" book, this was the band's 44th showcase and the one that got them signed to Warner Bros. Records. The band had been publicly using the Hybrid Theory name since May, but their legal name was still Xero. Kyle Christener was still in the band.
    - Jeff met Joe McEwen, head of A&R at Warner, in July 1999 while watching a show at CBGB's in New York. Joe liked their demo and decided to keep in touch with Jeff about potentially hiring him at Warner. Jeff got the job offer in August and his condition was that they'd sign Hybrid Theory, so they played a showcase for McEwen at S.I.R. Studios with Clyde Lieberman, the other candidate for the A&R job at Warner, in the audience.
    - The sound desk malfunctioned during soundcheck.
