Anyone who calls Travis Barker a bad drummer is just a hater IMO.

I'm not calling him a bad drummer. He's just not up to par with other drummers that I've heard, and I've seen the way he disrespects his equipment, and that's pretty frustrating.

Why? Travis is an amazing drummer.

 

As a percussion major, I can safely say no. No, he isn't. He has absolutely horrible technique, and lacks an understanding of playing musically with dynamic contrast. Listen to other drummers, like... Danny Carey. Shit, even Bourdon's an okay drummer.

I hate Travis Barker.

Maybe they'll re-record some of their vocals in Simlish. That'd be great.

is dance music. And I've heard some bands do even that extremely tastefully as part of a song. (Obsession by Innerpartysystem culminates in a full trance feel.) As far as the electric drums go, it sounds more like a punk feel, just made with an electric drum kit instead of an acoustic one--just like breaking the habit or even given upt. I'm personally not a huge fan of that style of rhythm, but it sounds as if that's going to be the tension before the release of the "lift me up, let me go" section, which is ultimately going to sound absolutely great in the song.

I bet Jornada del Muerto is an instrumental.

question: in the 6-track review we got of 5 of the songs including the catalyst, the catalyst was said to be track 6. is that because the 6 they heard were at random?

Anyway, I like the title names, and I'm not going to say which one's my 'favorite' because that's stupid. I haven't heard a single note from this album except for the catalyst so don't be saying which one's your favorite just because of the titles.... lulz.

Linkin Park plays more songs than most bands do at their shows, as well....

I'm almost willing to bet that "Please set me free. Conversation is the key." are lyrics to one of the songs.

How was that speaking highly of ourselves...we were a huge band that broke up and is getting back together under a different name. LoL we have so many people backing us legitimately instead of fake voting for ourselves. We have huge myspaces and promotion companies telling our fans and their's to vote for us...but this little english kid and these tehcno remixing weirdos keep pulling ahead of us? If that's not rigged...I don't know what is. It would be nice to have a fair contest where anything goes. Sorry we thought the most outside the box and didn't put breakdowns throughout the whole song, or make it dubstep or techno, and actually made a melody with VOCALS ON TIME! OMG YOU CAN PUT VOCALS ON TIME!?!?!? That's unheard of...in this contest at least.

Your vocals weren't in time, you just believe they are because that's how you interpreted it. Everyone else has interpreted it their way as well. Truth is, nobody knows where the vocals start because the final song hasn't been released. Nobody's heard the vocal lined up to a click track the way the band intended, so stop being a cock. I found your mix to be musically dismal, and your attitude sucks. You don't deserve to win.

Maybe they should make the next release ten minutes of blue whale sounds so that you can complain that it's not the dolphins you wanted.

The tracks are what we call "Wild." They're not synced to each other, so you get chaos when you just try to layer everything in together at once. If they were synced to each other and with the player, there would be unnecessary silence in each track, which would just take up space on the website and slow things down even more. Don't worry, though--if you're a competent musician, you'll figure it out.

 

I figure that the chorus starts on beat two--as in the word 'god' is on beat two, but I'll have to really get a chance to play with it before I can tell ya for sure. I do have some ideas, though. They might not be good ones, but they're there.

 

I think I'll save myself the headache and wait for someone to have ripped the .mp3s, though. I can be patient AND excited.

Wow... I definitely love this. The song, I mean. From what I've heard of it. I don't like the Bojam thing. I really wanted to be able to download the stems and mix them in the program I use. That's not really conducive to any forms of expression, but technically, the thing hasn't even started yet, so whatever.

I was thinking (hoping) that it's more of a graphical representation of their music, like it always is. If that's the case, then this album will probably be my favorite of all of them. Considering the logo is all glitched out and the images on the band website are now all glitched out, plus we got a sweet tech-driven ARG... I'm willing to bet that this album is going to be more electronic-based. Especially since Mike's been putting up videos of him practicing glitch music on his pages, and considering the tone that LP's music has taken since Minutes to Midnight (New Divide, Not Alone, making a conscious decision to release Across the Line, which had a definitively electronica-vibe). Obviously, I may be completely wrong--LP did give us QWERTY and then Minutes was nothing like that... but at least it'll be Linkin Park through and through, and they've never really disappointed me.

So... Yeah, I'm pretty stoked about this entire thing. Great opportunity for me to try out my Akai LPD8... just got it a few days ago. Can't wait to hear LP's direction this time. The website looks pretty cool.

What exactly are Midi triggers?

MIDI, which stands for Musical Instrument Digital Interface, is like a standard language. If I'm playing a B-flat on a keyboard, there's a specific code that says that I'm playing a B-Flat, and how loud it is. It's industry standard, which means that I can either play that through whatever onboard sounds the keyboard has, or plug in a chain of electronic modules that'll give me strings, guitars, synths, or anything I want. So I play a note with a MIDI keyboard, which sends it to whatever, which gives me back a B-flat at X volume in whatever I want to do it with.

 

That's the non-technical way of putting it.

 

Usually, what people think of when they hear the term MIDI, are songs that sound like they came from an NES. 8-bit type music. That's not always the case. That's really just a default port that comes with most MIDI controllers--you usually add in your own sounds via a VST plug in or maybe a Soundfont. (Believe me, in the 80s, those beeps were hot shit for video games because they didn't take up any space at all. Think of the difference between a .txt file and a .doc file, or even a .pdf file. The information is still there--there are still words, but the other two are a bit prettier, right? More specific with the editing.)

 

A MIDI Trigger is anything that you can use to create a MIDI signal. Obviously keyboards were the first wide-spread use of it, which eventually lead to the keytar and other chromatic based instruments. And then someone realized that the number of inputs doesn't have to be like a keyboard, so they made drums with it, and eventually...

 

 

 

....you've got something completely new, and we've managed to not only control what note and how loud it is, but any effect that we can think of can be manipulated with those cute knobs and buttons so that -that- note doesn't echo as much as -this- one!
