Hey everyone,

while watching some live videos recently, I figured it's overdue to give Mr. Rob Bourdon some kudos. What would you consider to be Rob's top 5 best works on any LP related material, and what do you enjoy about it? Let's highlight our beloved and appreciated ex-drummer, what do you say?

LP drums are not hard. But they never intended to be (maybe in The Hunting Party).
Rob knew how to play for the song, or "in the pocket". He didn't have much finesse, or volume/speed dynamics. He's more of a "locked on" player, straightforward.
But that's what LP songs are... straightforward. Many LP songs have the same groove/beat through the whole song, just differing on the bridge, the chorus being just the verse with hit-hat open or something like that.

Many LP songs from HT/MT era have a 16th hi-hat sample beat, but Rob is really playing 8ths under it. This is one of the "Linkin Park tricks to sound like Linkin Park".

About my top 5, not in order:
Papercut has a great beat. It's hip hopish, it's metalish, it's punkish... it's pure "hybrid theory".
Somewhere i Belong has a very nice groove and some cool licks.
GATS was the first time we heard "all his potential".
The Little Things Give You Away is weird, i like that a lot.
The Catalyst is a little hard to play, the beat seems offtime. The kickdrum pattern if fucked up over that punk beat on the hands.

Not gonna mention Easier To Run cause this is the one everyone mentions.

Super curious here (not a drummer). It was mentioned in the booklet how Rob stepped up his game with that song and (like you said) it got mentioned all the time since then in this context. But I never quite got why. Is it the way he combines the hi-hats in his groove?

Exactly, it's all about the hi-hat dynamics.

He's the perfect drummer for the band, no one does that seamless transition from beats to drums like him.

Being a good musician doesn't mean thst you have to be a prodigy, Genne Simmons said that he doesn't remember any Fleas basslines, he prefers memorable parts in music and thats what Rob did.

His style is so unique and he's like the Chester of drums he can play any genre, any style and he always did it perfect.

You guys already mentioned my favorite but the perfect example of how Rob took the songs to the next level its More The Victim holy fuck his drumming made the song so badass.
