we just played our first of two shows in manchester last night. this tour has been excellent...today, we were greeted here in london by some kids (who showed up before ANY of the crew of bands got here) with a 4-foot hand drawn poster of the band; we signed it and they're going to keep it for their collection...
thank you guys for showing up at the shows. this tour has been an awesome experience. tonight's show is at a ridiculously huge venue, the biggest we've played so far.

hey. it's mike and phoenix. I already wrote a bunch of funny crap, and Mike had the computer set up wrong, so we were disconnected from the internet, so we lost it all... We're in Germany, and I (Phoenix) am jetlagged... I've been up the last couple of days by 4 am, and a few minutes ago German MTV played the rock-rap-nu-metal "Koom By Ya My Lord." Needless to say, I feel like I'm on a different planet than the one I grew up on. For the record, the current LP vote on The Mummy Returns is 2-2. Mike and Brad enjoyed the movie, while Joe and I were pretty big negatories. The international scene is great, but I'm definitely excited to be touring in the states again on the Ozzfest... thanks for all your support.// i (mike) don't know why the computer bombed. but whatever...here we are anyway. german mtv and music here in general doesn't make sense to me yet. but i guess if i was german, i'd get it. we're playing rock im park today, for a gigantic crowd. neato. i'm excited for ozzfest. by the way, thanks for all the cool questions on the message board. we'll have to do a little FAQ session again sometime. see ya soon...

- The festival consisted of two stages, each inside a separate hangar at the Events Center - Jade Chamber and Crimson Chamber. Between the two hangars many booths were set up promoting various radio stations and selling food, drink, and products ranging from T-shirts to CDs to water pipes. Bands that played in the Jade Chamber consisted mainly of electronica and turntablists, while groups in the Crimson Chamber consisted of live bands and hip-hop bands.

- This is the first known time that Chester used the vocal delay on 'High Voltage' live. It is unclear why he did not continue using it throughout 2001.
- Chester sang the demo lyrics "Fear is powerful" during the chorus of 'Crawling'.
- 'In The End' was aborted and restarted. A Yahoo press piece in 2001 explains it: "Five songs into an ecstatic set at the historic Fillmore Auditorium in San Francisco, Linkin Park launches into "In The End." Something's not quite right. "Stop, stop, stop," vocalist Mike Shinoda orders. The crowd is shocked. "You guys are kicking our ass, and that wasn't right," he admits. "We want to live up to your standards."
The six-member band reloads and then kicks the tune up a notch. A couple weeks later, singer Chester Bennington explains, "We know how well we can play and we know what people hear. We try to match that as much as possible live. I'd say about 90 percent of the time we do; there's about 10 percent of the time that we don't, and we hate that. So it was cool for him to do that."
Apparently, that's not the first time the band has taken that approach. "There was this one time when the crowd started the song and they were so on. We skipped a beat and I stopped it, too. I said, 'This is about as punk-rock as we get, so we're going to start the song over.' We try to maintain a level of quality in our set.""
- Stephen Richards from Taproot came out and sang on 'A Place For My Head' from the bridge until the end of the song.
Other Notes:- The band stayed after the show and signed autographs for every fan that they could. Security was kicking people out because it was so late and the band kept signing until the last one was made to leave.
- A digital capture of the Fillmore documentary broadcast by Swedish channel ZTV was released on linkin-inside.

Tour Diary:1/30/01: STREET SOLDIERS TOUR BEGINS
Hey, what's up people! How's the new site! I hope you guys are stoked because we've been working really hard to get this thing up. We always talk about being dedicated to our web presence, so we're "putting our money where our mouth is."
Right now I'm sitting at the world-famous Filmore in San Francisco as Taproot are soundchecking Weezer's "Say It Ain't So." The club is video-taping the show tonight so I hope we don't suck.
We've been really busy these first few days of the tour, but the shows have been going off hard. Seattle, Portland, and Sacto were big sweaty pits of energy. Styles of Beyond are unbelievably sweet and Taproot have been ruling it every night.
We can't wait to see everybody across the great U.S. of A. Thank you tremendously for your support and dedication. Mostly, enjoy the new site.

so...we've been all talk for like two months about this site, and it's finally here. i hope you all like the new features. and if you're an artist, don't forget to enter the fan art contest (see the news/home page for details).
the tour has been phenomenal so far. last night, we played at the fillmore. we didn't know what to think, looking at the crowd, standing on the same stage that jimi hendrix and led zeppelin played on. i hope that all of you that came to the show enjoyed yourselves as much as we did, and hope that those of you who have tickets to the upcoming shows are excited as we are.
(and when i jump out into that crowd, i hope you guys have my back!!!)

Other Notes:- Chester, Brad and Phoenix dressed up as 80's Rock Stars complete with leather pants, bandannas, studs, etc. This was their way of dealing with some rough crowds the first couple shows of the Ozzfest tour. This is also documented on the 'Frat Party At The Pankake Festival' DVD.
- 'With You' was released on the Ozzfest 2001 CD. The CD insert says, "Recorded live at Alpine Valley Music Theatre, Milwaukee, Wis. June 9, 2001 and at Deer Creek Amp. in East Troy, Wis. June 11, 2001", but a recording exists from the June 9th show and it is not from that show. There was also no show on June 11th. The Deer Creek Amphitheatre/Music Center exists (now under the name Klipsch Music Center and formerly Verizon Wireless Music Center) and is located in Noblesville, IN. We have a suitable date one day later on June 12th. An Epic Records spokesperson confirmed to MTV that the album was recorded at the Milwaukee and Indianapolis stops of the tour. While this is not 100% confirmed, it is almost certain that the recording of 'With You' came from this show.

- The band debuted a new show intro for this show. This intro was popular for many years because of the Milano TV recording, but since this is the first performance of it, we have called it the Docklands Intro. The band went on to use it for the rest of 2001 after this show.
- Right at the beginning of the first chorus of 'Papercut', Brad stops playing and has the band stop the song due to people falling down in the crowd. Mike and Chester talk for a few minutes about how fans should help each other out in the crowd before they restart the song from the beginning.
- Evidence and Rakaa Iriscience from the Dilated Peoples came out and danced around on the end of 'High Voltage'.
- Chester did not sing his usual vocal outro to 'In The End' at this show.
- Before 'My December', Chester said they had only played the song twice since they wrote it (once the previous day in Manchester, UK and once at KROQ Almost Acoustic Christmas 2000).
- Joe's semi-famous Blow Your Mind interlude was first played at this show. It was used on-and-off for the rest of 2001 as well as during all of Projekt Revolution 2002.
- Marky Chavez from Adema & Wes Scantlin from Puddle of Mudd joined the band on the bridge of 'One Step Closer'.
Other Notes:- Fans attending this show had to sign a waiver saying they consented to being filmed for a Linkin Park DVD. This appears to be the first planned Linkin Park live DVD release that we know of. It is unknown why the show wasn't released. A lower quality version of the DVD was released on LPLive in September 2012 for the website's 6th anniversary.
- 'With You' and 'High Voltage' from this show were released on the LP Underground 2.0 CD.
- 'Crawling' was played during the soundcheck before the show.

Tour Diary:3/24/01: MANCHESTER/LONDON
we just played our first of two shows in manchester last night. this tour has been excellent...today, we were greeted here in london by some kids (who showed up before ANY of the crew of bands got here) with a 4-foot hand drawn poster of the band; we signed it and they're going to keep it for their collection...
thank you guys for showing up at the shows. this tour has been an awesome experience. tonight's show is at a ridiculously huge venue, the biggest we've played so far.
