  1. Oh yeah, I meant to say, about Robot Boy being played live... I feel like everyone forgot the reason they gave for not playing it, which was that it has something like 15 vocal layers, and that's just not doable live. I don't think they're ever going to play it, or at least not for a very very long time, and only if they give in to sampling the layers, and I feel like that's something they really don't want to do. It wouldn't really come out right.

Also, I got ahold of some new/old speakers today (they have to be connected w/copper wire, that's how old they are, but they still sound amazing). First thing I did when got them all connected was put ATS on to test them out. I knew that was the right album to test them out to. After re-listening to the album in a completely new format, it is more amazing than ever.

And it reminded me of when I made my mom listen to ATS in full with me right after I got it. When it ended, she basically told me that all the people who dismissed the band with the style change were out of their minds.

  2. There are alot of nuances in the album that most kids wouldnt get.....hell I just realized them in the past month.. The album has a deepness to the lyrics and instrumentation that not many bands can actually accomplish.

...I think you just summed up why a lot of people don't like ATS, maybe it just comes down to that they simply don't get it. It went over their heads. People don't like things that confuse them. They also don't like change.

I'm not even gonna TOUCH the "sell-out" thing. That's just pure bull and everyone who knows what the term means knows that, and everyone else is never going to listen.

That outta the way, my opinion of ATS actually hasn't changed much in the past year. It tied (w/Reanimation) for my favorite album and stayed there. Actually, what it did was change my perception of MTM. MTM went on a bit of a roller coaster ride for me. At first I didn't care for it, then it quickly grew on me, then it faded, then ATS came out and shoved MTM to the back. I think MTM pales in comparison to ATS. Not to be taken that I don't like MTM, I just don't listen to it as often.

    For me it's now: ATS=Reanimation>HT>Meteora=MTM.

My favs from ATS are probably Iridescent and Wretches & Kings.

I gotta say, this was a fun thread to read. :)

  3. I could've, but I didn't get the "OK" from management until about 2 minutes before I posted on Twitter.

Heh, funny how you don't get the "ok" to tell us about it until after somewhere else announces it and we figure it out for ourselves. :P

(*Not a complaint, just an observation.)

  4. Wow. That's cool. :D

Anyway, sadly I've never seen them live, but my favorite moment has to be the performance of High Voltage Live At Docklands Arena, London in 2001. The song itself from that performance is my all-time favorite song ever, and the video is simply captivating.

  5. Heh, ok, that was cool. I remember the stadium more as where the Cowboys played. Saw a game there once, from the endzone, with a big group of family. Think I also went there a couple times via marching band. Kinda sad to see it go, knowing I'll never get to see another Cowboys game live again. If LP does play the new stadium, the ticket prices better not be as insane as they are for Cowboys games now (I know they won't be, it's just a joke, that would be ridiculous). Unless you settle for the crappiest seats available, you have to pay thousands of dollars just for the option to purchase actual tickets, the crappiest of which are almost $600. And don't even try for seats on the 50.

  6. They've never been the traditional rock band. I think everyone who's heard Reanimation knows that. I would say they're just about as much hip-hop as they are rock, at least they're earlier stuff was a lot more hip-hop oriented. I've grown to stop categorizing LP anymore because they're just all over the place, what with alternative/metal/pop/rap/hip-hop/electronica/classical/ambient sounds in their music :P

Heh! That's so what I'm going to start calling them. :P
  7. I just realized...the very first couple seconds of the song are reminiscent of the Somewhere I Belong intro. I'm trying to remember what effect or instrument they used for that. I know they talked about altering guitar or something to achieve that effect.

That was the very first thing I noticed. Basically they chopped up and flipped a guitar track. I'm guessing they did something similar here.
  8. I dont know why you guys were bitchin a lot about chester's voice!

    He sounded great

he had a lot more problems in his first performances of Pieces/WID/SOTD and he used to sound really bad in VD

but he just sounds awesome doing ND..

Yeah... after editing... sounded fine in the proshot version, but in the unedited fan shot video we saw last night he's flat half of the song.
  9. Alright, I understand that this was the first time they'd ever played New Divide in front of any kind of public audience, and they've had some time off and probably haven't rehearsed a whole lot yet...but that had to be the most horribly out-of-tune I've EVER heard Chester sing. I hope the other songs weren't that bad.

Glad I'm not the only one to notice that, haha. After 10 years of band and 3 years of intense music studies, things like that really get to me. I don't think it was as bad as some of the early performances of SOTD, but still.
  10. Lmao who agrees with me that Love Lockdown is better live than in studio? Tho I agree w/ alyeksa about the fact that he needs voice lessons.

Thanks. That's really my only issue with him right now.

its much better live. the less robot, the better. his voice needs some training but wow its way better live :P

The other few times I saw him perform those live, he actually still used the robot voice thing, it was awful. Using the voice thing and still not being able to sing? Tonight's was way better than those performances.
  11. He's not that bad, and at least he chose some good songs for his set so far, loving Stronger and Heartless.

Ok, I do like the songs, but his singing definitely needs work. He needs to hire a voice trainer or something. I already knew the songs, and I like the studio versions, but seriously. Props for trying though. Nothing against the man, he just can't sing.

  12. Kanye? Really? Why? Well, I guess they did say there would be a "surprise guest", but still... Kanye? He was on SNL last night, I don't need more. And he's really not that good a singer, needs some work. Ow.

  13. Yay! I don't get why people were so against the plaque. I would totally want that on my wall instead of a poster. You shouldn't get it if you can't afford the damn thing unless you're stupid. If i want it, I'd do what normal people do: I'd freaking save up for it. I won't get it because i want to "feel special" (Hahninator) after all, LP's touring crew got plaques and it was cool. I'd get it because i think it's different from the normal merch available and will be better suited to getting autographs in my opinion. I may not get it considering that I'm a student living off financial aid so i have to prioritize my luxuries, but i most certainly do like the option open to me.

I am eagerly awaiting the release of LPU 8.0 cd. Although, i know Mike said it will be unique, i don't recall him saying it will be epic per verbatim.

Two things. 1) We weren't against the plaque itself save the costliness of it. We were against the idea of a new tiered membership being offered. The LPU already has enough problems they aren't dealing with. They need to work on fixing those issues before adding new ones. And they did listen to us, we said if anything they should leave membership alone and put the plaque in the LPU store, they compromised and added it as an extra to get with membership without changing the membership itself, which is almost the same. 2) The touring crew's plaques are different. They were given those in recognition for their work. They earned them. LPU wants us to buy them ourselves. It's not the same. I don't want a plaque if I have to buy it myself, it's something to be earned.

  14. Gah! I live in San Marcos! Too bad band keeps me from 2 out of the 3 dates. We have a game that weekend. But I'm all over Sunday man! :D

Also, I too would like to know where you got the info. I'm not doubting you, I'd just like to know. :)

    http://www.bluegrassjournal.com/2008/08/21...november-14-16/

    http://news.harmony-central.com/Newp/2008/...15-16-2008.html

Ah, yeah see, I don't do myspace. But that makes sense. Thanks for the links. It's good to know what I might possibly be giving my time to.
