  1. I was just trying to point out how Brad is becoming less and less the "lead guitar" on that little things over the ATS and LT cycle. You can see how brad is playing more the synthesizer on some songs while Mike is the only one holding a guitar. Just a thought ...

Jesus christ I haven't posted in a very long time but the stupidity of your post called for it. Why the hell does it matter if hes not playing guitar? Just because it says his "lead guitarist" on his wiki page? If he needs to play keyboards for a song to make it work live, then so be it. Versatility is always a good thing, your making it sound like he has to stay on guitar for every single fucking song and that Mike shouldn't touch one ever.

  2. EDIT: Also, have Carousel, Technique and Part Of Me ever been played live? I know there are no sources but I was just wondering out of curiosity.

No, none of them have been played live, but I know Carousel was considered in 2001 when they brought out Step Up.

  3. Hey. Just wondering. I'm going to the SoundWave sideshow in Sydney next Feb and I applied for the M&G. What is the chances of being picked for it since it is my first time applying for it? And when will we know if we got picked? I want to ask to come up onstage and be the 1st fan to play drums on stage... It's worth a shot since others have played Gutair ect

Don't mean to dash your hopes, but I believe LP don't want fans playing drums as the samples and click tracks need to be in time with the drums (or something like that, not too sure) and its a hassle to have someone besides Rob playing drums. No harm in asking though.

  4. Ahh, yep, looks like he has a handful of pedals there (looks like a wah for sure, probably a boost/overdrive and some kind of delay on there as well), definitely not his full pedalboard though... http://copygr.am/stage_rad/265349818389164671_199554923/ Imagine having to set this sucker up every night! Mike's crazy lol.

Haha yeah, here's a rig rundown of Mike's gear if anyone's interested! (I think it might of been filmed during the Honda Civic tour, but I'm probably wrong.)

  5. I don't think Mike's using his pedalboard for his guest spot on BIO, he just has a Fender combo amp that they keep stashed under Rob's drum riser throughout the show, and he plugs straight into it. Doesn't even use a wireless pack.

I'm pretty sure he does have his pedal board (or at least part of it) when hes playing BIO. Watch this vid at 4:31

  6. Some more guitar rig-related stuff to mention:

-Brad no longer uses the MXR Micro Amp as a boost, instead he has an MXR/Custom Audio Electronics Boost/Line Driver pedal that now serves that function, although it's pretty much always on these days (his tech likes to keep the booster and one of the Boss CS-3 compressors on at all times to help thicken up the overall sound).

-The Boss BF-3 Flanger is no longer a part of Brad's rig (I think I may have mentioned this before), it's been replaced by a new pedal, a Devi Ever Shoegazer fuzz pedal, which is used on Burn it Down (it was also used quite a bit in the studio during the Living Things sessions).

-Both Brad and Mike have a new piece of rack-mounted gear that plays a significant role for certain guitar parts: a Drawmer DS-201 Dual Gate. This is a VERY unique noise gate that can actually be externally triggered via a "guide track" from Pro Tools, which they use to create stuttering/"killswitch" sounds. It's used on Mike's guitar part throughout Lies Greed Misery, as well as on both guitar parts during the chorus of Victimized and the intro of Lost in the Echo. It's also being used on Points of Authority to more accurately recreate the chopped-up guitar sound from the original studio recording - listen to some recent live performances of POA and compare the guitar sound to some older performances, HUGE difference in how it sounds.

-The Electro-Harmonix HOG is still in use in both Brad and Mike's guitar rigs as well. It was only used by each of them on one song during the A Thousand Suns cycle (Brad on Wretches and Kings and Mike on Waiting For the End), but it also plays a major role throughout Victimized, and is also used by Brad during the breakdown in the middle of Lost in the Echo.

-Brad's Rory Gallagher Strat is now splitting stage use with a newer Strat, a sunburst Road Worn '60s Strat that was initially used in the Waiting For the End music video. He tends to use the Rory Gallagher Strat on MTM/ATS songs, and the Road Worn Strat on Lost in the Echo/In My Remains.

Some other performance notes on newer songs:

-Lost in the Echo: Phoenix uses the M-Audio Trigger Finger for samples during the verses and breakdown, Joe and Phoenix both sing some backing vocals. There's also a backing track for some additional backing vocals, it's especially noticeable towards the end of the song on the Carson televised performance.

-In My Remains: Phoenix and Brad both sing the gang vocal part at the end, which is again augmented by a backing track.

-Victimized: Phoenix and Brad both play samples in various parts of the song.

Great info man! I guess you're our inside guy on all of LP's gear since you know Sean. Also, do you have any plans to put all the pedals/effects that LP use on your guitar site? Would be pretty nice so thats its not all in seperate posts within this thread.

  7. I don't know if this has been asked before.

    Here it is anyways:

Why does the Living Things booklet say that LP uses Ibanez? I thought they use only PRS and Fenders now.

On stage they might mainly use PRS and Fenders (they used to play Ibanez's more during their Hybrid Theory/Meteora years) , but they could be using Ibanez's for studio use only.

Also, I think the reason that lyrics in the booklets are often wrong is because the printing companies or whatever need to start making album booklets/covers a few months before album release and so the band sends lyrics which often change by the time the album releases.

  8. Looking at some early photos from Pinkpop, looks like LP was using different gear for this show (Mike was using his blue PRS with the skulls instead of the plain blue one, as well as one of his black SGs instead of the red one), so I guess we can go ahead and confirm that LP is using at least 2 touring rigs on this tour. I'd imagine some of the guitars they used at the House of Blues that weren't used in Lisbon will be in this rig (or possibly a third one, if they're using 3).

Yeah, that definetely seems like the case. Makes sense though, lugging one rig all over the world is probably quite costly and would take quite a bit of time. But I do know a few other fairly large bands that only seem to have one touring rig.

  9. From ATS I'd pretty much like for BITS and Jornada to come back.

It always amuses me how them playing old songs always equals "best setlist ever"

    Not for me :P

Same here, Its great that their bringing out old fan favourites but I'd personally prefer a few more ATS songs and maybe something like The Little Things Give You Away from MTM, we've only got one "slowish" paced song/medley. I understand the band want more high energy shows, but it wouldn't hurt to have a few more slower paced songs.

  10. Some great info here guys! I've noticed Chester is using his PRS Mira for Iridescent instead of his new "green" telecaster that he used at HOB. Also, thats definetely a black PRS Mira that Brad is using on With You/Runaway.

  11. Hmmm, dunno what to think of this. Its got a sort of pop/dancey feel like BID, but its got that "wierdness" (for lack of a better word) that Blackout has (chester screaming over a dancy beat etc). The ending is pretty damn great though, I'll have to listen to it a few more times to make up my mind on it.

  12. So after watching some videos of their show at HOB, heres what I've noticed (mostly guitar stuff):

    - Brad has a new 7/6 string (can't really tell, probably a baritone 6 string) for With You and Runaway. I have absolutely no idea what make it is.

    - Chester has a new telecaster for the Iridescent part of the LOATR/SOTD/Iridescent medley.

If you listen to Chester before the Cataylst (which was the song after) he says something about the guitar being made by the guitar tech and being decomposable or something?

    - Nothing special, but Phoenix seems to be favouring his White/with red tort pickguard P-Bass more then his sunburst.

    - Mikes playing samples during Runaway. I'm pretty sure when they played it before Joe was doing them, but Mikes doing them for whatever reason now.

    - I think Mike might have a new PRS on WFTE, but it might just be one of his blue ones that he usually uses for Faint/OSC etc.

    - Mike definetely has a new white PRS (might actually be one of Brad's) on SIB.

    - I think Mike has a new white Strat on WID.

    - Phoenix is on backing vocals for BID

    - Apparently Rob is wearing headphones instead of in-ears now (or maybe over them) for whatever reason.

All I have for right now, I'm sure more will be revealed after they start playing some more shows and new songs (which probably won't happen until the Honda Civic tour).
