  1. Apologies it too so long. Gave the album a few listens. Sorry if this sounds like other reviews. I'm not a professional. lol But here goes...

    LOST IN THE ECHO

A really fantastic opener. Mike begins rapping over the beat. Chester can be heard singing harmonies in the background. They fit the song really well. Extremely well paced chorus. After the second chorus, scratches can be heard and it sorta reminds me of "Blackout". It's not bad, but I'd have preferred just the 20 second instrumental interlude into the last chorus but it works.

    IN MY REMAINS

The song starts off with a guitar with some scratches as Chester takes the lead singing to a beat and some piano in the background. The chorus comes in and it hits you right in the face. Another verse followed by another chorus. The bridge hits and you can hear the military style drums with Mike singing those familiar lyrics "Like an army, falling, one by one by one." I would be shocked if this doesn't happen to be a single.

    BURN IT DOWN

We've all heard it by now. The chorus is very catchy and you will see yourself singing it before the song is over. The rap/rock element shows here once again. Meant to be a single. Let it pass...

    LIES GREED MISERY

Mike begins rapping over a distorted beat which honestly, to me, goes together really well. The bridge slows down the pace of the song but then builds back up and everything just goes nuts. Screams. Distortion. Beats. Guitars. All at once. Holy shit... I bet the last 30 seconds of this song is what many believed VICTIMIZED to sound like. More on that in a bit...

    I'LL BE GONE

I think it was Astat who mentioned the connection between this song and "When They Come For Me" on A Thousand Suns. I definitely get the connection. Not to mention both tracks are #5 on their respective albums. A mind blowing fact all in itself. I like the pace of this song, and the chorus just destroys anything I have heard up until this point. Possibly my favorite chorus of any LP song. Another single worthy song.

    CASTLE OF GLASS

I will go on record and say that this is the song I was looking forward to that had me intrigued the most. The intro sounds like nothing I've ever heard from the band up till this point. Brownie Points!! Every element of this song is great. I love the use of the background melodies and I am a fan of Mike having the lead singing. It was one of the main things I loved on ATS with "Burning in the Skies" and "Iridescent".

    VICTIMIZED

The song EVERYONE was waiting to hear. It starts off like how people thought it would but 20 seconds in, the vibe changes. I thought it was going to be 2 full minutes of Chester screaming like it would be the last song that he ever screamed on. We didn't get that and I am okay with that. There are some songs where I like to be able to understand what is being said in the lyrics and if it was just scream-o, I wouldn't be able to understand it. I guess my only complaint about this song is that it would have easily been twice as long.

    ROADS UNTRAVELED

Right away, you can tell it will be a ballad. That put a smile on my face. Anything with piano makes me a happy guy. Mike begins singing once again to open this track. I like this trend. The chorus might be one of the most beautiful things I will ever hear. The "Woaoooohhhhhh....Woaoooohhhh..." got me singing alongside right away. The song dies down near the end and then just explodes with power once again. Just beautiful.

    SKIN TO BONE

This is my "meh" song off of the album. Where the song isn't bad it it's own right, it just doesn't seem to fit for me. I think someone already said that this felt like a filler track. I think they hit the nail right on the head with that comment.

    UNTIL IT BREAKS

Essentially four songs in one. Well, I get the folk feel from it. I was pleasantly surprised when I listened for the first time. I thought I heard Brad it in and after rereading some reviews, that confirmed it. I get a Fort Minor feel in the first half of this song. I liked Brad's part. I am looking forward to seeing how this will be portrayed live.

    TINFOIL

After listening the first time, I couldn't tell where TINFOIL ended and where POWERLESS began. This IS the intro to POWERLESS which in my mind, clocks in at 4:55 and not 3:43. I will just count the two as one song.

    POWERLESS

Right away, I am pulled in by the piano for this beautiful ballad. Chester takes the lead this time with the lyrics "And you held it all. But you were careless to let it fall. You held it all. And I was by your side........Powerless". By the second chorus, I was singing along. I believe Mike chimes in with the "ohhhhhhhh". The song ends with Chester in the distance almost screaming "powerless". One of the most amazing outros to a Linkin Park album. It's hard to choose whether I love this one or "The Little Things Give You Away" more. They are both just absolutely amazing. TLTGYA might have a slight edge.

Overall, it is just an incredible album. It is full of immense energy. I recommend this album to anyone who has a chance to get it. Definitely something I can listen to at least a few times a day. I waited until the day of the official release and I can honestly say I am happy I did.

    My Rating - 8.9/10

I think that is a fairly accurate rating. If SKIN TO BONE wasn't included, I believe it would have been higher.

  2. THIS ALBUM IS A FUCKING PIECE OF SHIT!!!!!!! I can't fucking stand these guys. I would rather have an elephant shitting in my ear and listen to that than listen to a song off of this record again.. Who th..............

Oh wait. That's my review of the latest Nickelback album. Sorry. Living Things album should be posted soon =)

  3. I just left Best Buy and got my copy. Heading to my car now. Going to listen to it on the ride home and hopefully post a review of it. Good work on anyone who waited until today to listen. If the album is as good as some of the members here on the forum say, this could possibly be my favorite LP album to date. See ya'll later.

  4. Ok, here we go.. Time for a review I think..

    LOST IN THE ECHO

First song of the album. It starts with a heavy beat and a heavy guitar. Shinoda then starts rapping over the beat, Chester singing some harmonies in the background until we get to the chorus which is catchy and melodic. The song has a really energetic vibe and when the bridge hits, Chester screams his lungs out, the beat suddenly changes, we have some scratches from Mr. Hahn and distorted guitars, the music builds up, mike starts rapping again and the chorus on more time. For sure the most energetic opener LP have ever recorded and one of the best of the album. Everything happens fast and without realizing it you find yourself headbanging.

    Great song.

    IN MY REMAINS

Probably meant for a single. We have some scratches for Hahn and then Delson leads us to Chester singing with a beat and piano in the background. Chorus. Guitars starts playing again and Chester seems to be in a very good shape, producing one the best choruses of the album along with I'LL BE GONE. The bridge has some military drums and Mike singing "Like an army falling, one by one by one". The music builds up and Chester joins Mike until he takes the lead. Chorus again with Mike in the background singing "one by one by one".

Pretty good song, hit single with no doubt.

    BURN IT DOWN

All you pretty much know about this song. Maybe the weakest of the album but again, catchy. We have guitars, scratches, heavy drums, synth piano, mike rapping and again a song that you can never know how much is going on until you listen to it multiple times. It could be more unique I think.

    Meant for a single.

    LIES GREED MISERY

The song starts with an electro sample and then Mike starts rapping on a heavy distorted beat. Chorus hits, Chester singing "I wanna see you choke on your lies" with a distorted guitar on the background. All that until the bridge. Song slows down and Chester repeats "You did to yourself" again again as the song build up to the point everything goes insane. Screams, guitars, beats all at the same time.

A party song despite the weird, full of hate lyrics. Pretty quick.

    I'LL BE GONE

It starts slow with a melancholic vibe but that doesn't last longer than 10 seconds. Once again Brad leads us to Chester singing in a slower rhythm than the intro. The chorus is great, fast, energetic and Chester does a great job delivering it. The second verse sounds a bit louder, more instruments make their appearance until the chorus comes again. The bridge seems epic, slower than the chorus and fits well with the song. Chorus is repeated until the end of the song.

Another possible single around the lines of Alternative Rock with lots of influences from the MTM era.

    CASTLE OF GLASS

Here's where the heavy experimentation shows up. A groovy intro nothing like everything we have ever heard, Mike singing slowly only to a beat and some background melodies and the beat gets heavier until the chorus which is sang by Mike and Chester. Acoustic guitar is also noticeable. The chorus ends and drums and synths steps up the pace of the song. Mike continues to sing slowly. The second verse seems smaller. Chorus one more time and then a guitar plays the rhythm of the song giving it a very groovy vibe and suddenly Chester sings almost acapella but only for a second until all the 6 guys together close the song.

Heavy experimentation, really well delivered and a groovy song. Mike surprisingly is doing a really good job lead singing.

    VICTIMIZED

The most anticipated song of the album. Everyone expected heavy guitars and Chester screaming for almost two minutes. Forget it. The song is nothing like that but then again it's easily the craziest song LP have ever composed. Heavy drums, guitars playing a weird riff, a sample from a speech, mike singing, Chester screaming, Mike rapping, distorted beats and Chester screaming some more. All that in under two minutes.

The song is a great idea but it is a little bit rushed. It could be way better.

    ROADS UNTRAVELED

The first ballad of the album. Bells ringing, piano playing a slow rhythm and Mike again lead singing. Heavy lyrics, emotionally charged. Chester doing some backing vocals and drums every now and then. The chorus is melodic with Chester singing "Ooooh ooooh" and even when you listen to it for the first time you can't help but sing along. Guitar builds up the song without ruining the melody and the emotion. And then suddenly everything stops. Chester singing the second verse with Mike until the music stops for a second. The song powers up again and the Oh's start one more time and you can't help but sing one more time.

Amazing ballad, one of LP's best.

    SKIN TO BONE

Mike continues the lead singing in this album over a weird electro beat and distorted guitars flying all over the song. Again the singing seems a little bit slower than the beat. Chester sings along with Mike at what might be considered the chorus. This song might be the worst on the album at the lyric section. But it seems like it was written to have fun with the groovy vibe and start some kind of weird dancing around it.

Small song, well paced. Lyrically the weakest point of the album.

    UNTIL IT BREAKS

The most controversial song of the album. You either hate it or love it. Mike rapping FM-style to a heavy beat and then out of the sudden we have Chester singing the chorus with in a folk way, folk lyrics, and only a piano playing in the background. Beats starts again and Mike starts spreading his flow all over the song. Second chorus comes in. Or not. LP decided to do something different. Brad starts singing in a melodic way with the company of some rhythmic drums and some kind of violins and that's how the song ends.

Really weird song. For some the worst, for others the best. Requires multiple hearings.

    TINFOIL/POWERLESS

A piano repeating a rhythm as TINFOIL plays. Weird drums and melodies in the background it seems like you are traveling in space. And that's the beautiful intro of POWERLESS of what is one of the most beautiful ballads of LP. Slow piano and Chester takes the lead in the singing section. "And I was by your side... powerless". And then song starts to build up. The TINFOIL-based melody starts playing along with the piano and the chorus one more time. The song is getting more powerful after every second and you'll find yourself smiling with no reason. The song ends with Mike singing "oooh oooh" and Chester almost screaming "Powerless".

Amazing outro, the best outro of any LP's album.

    OVERALL OPINION

The album is really really good. It has everything LP has ever done but is based more on the MTM era. I won't go as far as to say it's the best LP album, but for sure they have some of their best melodies in that album. Full of energy, does not get you bored, it keeps your attention for the whole 37 minutes.

This album is a "journey" and it's meant to be listened as a whole.

Best song: LOST IN THE ECHO

    Worst song: BURN IT DOWN

When the album gets released, I am going to have this up on my computer and go through it as I listen to Living Things for the first time. Just reading this review made me smile =)

  5. I will be waiting until I have the physical copy of the album in my hands as well only because I have enough going on in my life that I can wait the 3 weeks before it comes out. The only thing I remember listening to when it was leaked was the DBS album. I waited years to hear that.

  6. Brandon has a better voice than Chester.

It's hard to say something like that. We are all entitled to our own opinions. Personally, I disagree. I mean you could argue the fact that one is better than the other. Don't get me wrong, I love both Linkin Park and Incubus, but there is just something about Chester's voice. He can do just about anything. Mike said (I believe it was on the MTM DVD) that he would challenge anyone to try and sing songs just like Chester and they wouldn't even come close. His voice is just so intense and unique and is definitely one of the most powerful voices I've ever heard in my life. And I've heard A LOT of music. Some might say he might not be the greatest singer of all time, but he would rank in top 5 in my book.

  7. So when exactly is ''Burn It Down'' supposed to premiere tomorrow? Mike said early morning. I live in EST time zone... Any idea? I am going to purchase the track on iTunes, but I'm sure it will be released in OTHER ways before that.

I've heard 9 or 10am EST tomorrow morning but I can't confirm it.

  8. Here's my view:

Numbrocker posted the tweet, assuming the hash tag meant the album name (a pretty logical conclusion, because why else include it)

    No other proof is found.

    LPL starts bashing

WHO gives two craps? Seriously. Approach it with this mindset "the album might be called 'Living Things' " consider your thoughts from that. Then with this mindset "It won't be called that" and consider thoughts.

I remember numbrocker being a valuable contributor to the information flow of ATS and general.

I also remember me posting how a radio station would play a clip of the catalyst before everyone heard it and it turned out to be false. Nobody gave me any trouble....

Agreed. It's just sad that since the headline for this thread didn't read "Possible title for upcoming album to be Living Things", people began being so hell bent on not wanting to see the words "confirmed" anywhere. Whatever it is, we are all part of a community and stupid things like this shouldn't split us apart. Everyone makes mistakes. Move on.
