Original LPU8 Tracklisting

Since we got mmm…cookies for LPU8 and it was the first time the band ever did something like that, what do you think the original tracklisting for LPU8 would have been? Btw I love mmm…cookies I just had some ideas the other night about this. 
 

I found it weird there were random tracks released throughout 2009-2010. Brad’s Yo is one, pretty random to give us through Monster Energy’s website, no? Maybe they were going to include it on the LPU8 CD since they liked to have an instrumental open them. They clearly liked the song since they released it for Monster and then again to open LPU11. Just weird that specific MTM demo was floating around in the band’s mind in early 2009, I bet it was gonna be on there. 
 

Blackbirds, at the time of fall 2008, many people on the LPU forums and LPL and LPA forums were saying we wanted the ‘’6th string song’’. Nowadays you never hear of this but at that time it was everywhere, it was in like every thread. Well isn’t it weird they gave us this one for beating 8 Bit Rebellion? We knew they were working on a video game album type thing in late 2008 and into 2009 and then in 2009 they abandoned it and started working on 8-Bit Rebellion as show on LPTV they were working on it on tour in 2009 and even into 2010. Basically for a few years. Maybe they were gonna give us Blackbirds the 6th string song for LPU8 but they didn’t so they gave it to us for beating that game, it was all in the same time frame, seems random to me. 
 

Then we have Songs from the Underground which I think contains scrapped LPU8 tracks for sure. Hunger Strike and Crawling was a bonus track with Chris. Fully mixed and ready to go. Proper fade outs, etc. Random to have them on that little weird CD right? Probably were supposed to be the live tracks on LPU8. They also had a random My December piano version from a 2008 show fully mixed with proper faded putto and everything on there too, probably was on the CD I bet. 
 

Last track, Mike’s remix of LOATR. Just appeared randomly on a LOATR single but only in Japan. I feel like this was totally for LPU8 but since it was scrapped he put it on there. It seems like a total LPU song to me and it’s never been released again anywhere ever since then. And once again this was all the same time period.

"We will do for you guys something new" - this is not the exact quote, but it's something that Mike said after seeing fan petition about not adding the live songs to LPU albums that much. At this point (LPU8) they didn't even think about releasing the demos for LPU.

I do like your theory about Crawling/ Hunger Strike/ My December, could hold water!

 

I made a custom LPU8 around that time with the following:

 

01 Lockjaw (LPU exclusive download)

02 New Divide (because why not. I was going for an LPU6 vibe with the track list)

03 Wake 2.0 Live (wasn’t on a CD)
04 Lying From You Live (I liked the new intro)

05 Leave Out All The Rest Live (the RTR version was released as an LPU preview)

06 We Made It Live (since it wasn’t on anything else)

Wow! Great topic, I've never join the pieces of the puzzle like you did. Although I love the early LPU format (2002/2006) I also think that, this hypothetical tracklist would have also generated some controversy because of the DSP tracks. I wouldn't have minded if they continued to release live tracks along with demos as long as those tracks were like the ones in LPU2, 4 and 6. Specially in later CDs, were in my opinion some of the tracks weren't very interesting at all, they just put them for the sake of filling up.

Personally I really think this is what LPU8 would have been. All these tracks were mixed and mastered and ready to go but were scattteted across various places. I think they ditched the idea once they saw fans didn’t want any live stuff and that’s when they came up with the idea for mmm cookies. 

I have mixed feelings with RTR, objectively the show is top tier, one of the best of that era, but having those songs cut and disorganized as hidden tracks, can't stand it man. I'd have included all songs until What I've Done in the CD and the last encore in that hypothetical LPU8 or at the New Divide single

 

PS: I love Collision Course but that wasn't the time for it so yeah, I would have kept the original setlist.

But yeah the Collision Course era was so big that it even seeped into Minutes era. At the Webster Hall show people were chanting HOVA. Then he came out at Maddison Square Garden first in early 2008 and then again at the Milton Keynes show in 2008, and he actually opened for LP, which is insane to think about. I was just listening to Loveline from November of 2008 and Mike said people didn’t realize how crazy that was to have Jay-Z opening for LP. That was when LP was on top of the world IMO. Wasn’t Jay-Z recently listed as the best rapper of all time by Billboard?

Maybe it's my fault for underappreciate that EP. For me it's like "yeah, that was cool, let's move on", and the band also didn't paid too much attention over the years. But now you said that, it makes sense, Jay Z is one of the biggest artist in the world and the impact of Collision Course was even more massive on casual fans rather than the hardcore fanbase

In the States, it was a huge release, I know many, many people in real life who still talk about it. Like you said, many people who aren’t LP fans, they know about Collision Course, it was huge in the sense that no band had ever really done something like that with a rapper like that, it was a massive hit. 

Then, I have another question for you. Out of curiosity? Do you think that Collision Course is the best and worst planned release in band's history?

 

The best: LP is the biggest band in the world in 2004

The worst: Too much going on in the band that year and a burnt out band in 2005, wasting an opportunity to properly promote the EP
