  1. I finally ended comparing the songs versions from Papercuts CD with original album versions and single versions. Here are the results:

     

    01.Crawling (03:29)
     - album version

    02.Faint (02:42)
    - album version

    03.Numb/Encore [Explicit] (03:26)
    - album version, but: the 2004 is louder, the volume of this one was a bit decreased
    - additionally it has +1 second of silence at the end
    - 2024 quality, maybe a small differences in mastering/EQ

    04.Papercut (03:04)
    - album version, despite not having 1 second of silence at the start like the original version from the 2000 CD has
    - very small portion of the end was cut and added to beginning of BTH to create transition

    05.Breaking The Habit (03:14)
    - contains small transition from Papercut
    - album version, it missing 2 seconds with transition to FTI at the end, because it was fade out

    06.In The End (03:35)
    - album version
    - -1 second of silence at the end

    07.Bleed It Out [Explicit] (02:44)
    - album version

    08.Somewhere I Belong (03:34)
    - album version

    09.Waiting For The End (03:51)
    - album version, with fade out at the end just before the blackout transition
    - 2012 master with different effects on vocals and guitar loop at the beginning (check the updated post here)

    10.Castle Of Glass (03:24)
    - album version with just almost 1 second of silence cut at the end

    11.One More Light (04:11)
    - album version, the last 3 seconds of it were cut and added to BID to create transition

    12.Burn It Down (03:49)
    - album version, almost 1 second a the end was cut from it
    - contains small transition from OML

    13.What I’ve Done (03:25)
    - album version
    - it has an issue with intro fade in, the same like WID in some digital versions of MTM

    14.QWERTY (03:21)
    - it's 2008 version, which means no transition from Annoncement Service Public and extra 2 seconds of silence at the end
    - on the Papercuts CD the 2 seconds of silence at the end were cut
    - quality upgrade

    15.One Step Closer (02:35)
    - album version

    16.New Divide (04:29)
    - the same as 2009 version, 2 seconds of silence at the end were cut
    - 2024 quality, maybe a small differences in mastering/EQ

    17.Leave Out All the Rest (03:20)
    - can't really say if it's single version or edited album version, I guess it's edited album version
    - it contains  1 second of silence more at the end comparing to the single version

    18.Lost (03:16)
    - album version, not 2002 mix, 2 seconds less of silence at the end
    - 1 second of ending of it was cut and added to Numb to create transition

    19.Numb (03:06)
    - album version
    - it contains small transition from Lost

    Well, that's not true. You see they are using a Hi-Res 24-bit as a source quality for the vinyls, the same source usually goes for digital platforms that sells/stream music in Hi-Res quality. And HTEP disc is one of those included on HT20 that is available on HDtracks in Hi-Res quality, there are very noticeable differences in mastering and both both gentleman's are mentioned in the credits for songs from HTEP. So yeah at least they are releasing the same files digitally.

    credits says: Mastered by Pat Kraus

                          Mastered for a vinyl by Brian Gardner

     

    Can someone explain to me what's the difference between the vinyl and CD mastering. Is it mean (based on the credits) that they took the original HTEP copy mastered by Pat Kraus to Brian and he use it to make the mastering for a vinyl, is that right? Because if Brian worked on the complete unmastered version then what's the point to include the Pat's credits if only one person mastered the whole thing?

    I was comparing the Papercuts version with the album versions from the 2010 CD I bought because I wanted to check if there is no transition to Blackout at all or it can be still noticeable and then I have noticed that the "got" at the end sounds different so I decided to compare and check the whole track.

    So WFTE has been replaced just about everywhere with an incorrect version? This is a pretty significant discovery martinez, nice work. It's like the real WFTE is being erased...

     

    All vinyls of ATS were released in 2010, there is no any single one released in the later years, based on the info from lpcatalog, so I'm assuming there's no vinyl edition containg 2012 version of WFTE.

     

    If it's about the digital version, there is a standard version available on spotify here and bonus version here, containing the 2010 originals, both are also available on qobuz and some other digital stores. I think currently iTunes and Apple Music are the only two not having the 2010 versions anymore.

     

    Also, I compared the WFTE music videos, the one that I bought from iTunes few years ago. The SD quality and full HD (that contains audio in Apple Digital Master quality) both has the original 2010 version of the song but the new 4K upgrade which is on YouTube and in some other digital platforms contains the 2012 version.

  5. So Waiting For The End on "Papercuts" CD contains no transition to Blackout which is happening for the first time, since the WFTE Promo CD single or the official CD single released in stores had the album version of the song.

     

    Besides the lacks transition to Blackout, the song also contains different effects used on vocals. A different delay effect on the Papercuts version can be heard when you compare below two fragments:

     

    WFTE-album version
    WFTE-papercuts/2012 album version


    Another example with even more noticable difference is at the end when Chester sings the last word "got!":

    When you compare those fragments you will be able to hear those differences. Also, there might be something else which I'm not sure about it. I exctracted the acapella from both versions and I want you to compare and let know what you think about it. Here are two fragments of the acapella:

    WFTE (acapella)-papercuts/2012 album version

     

    When Chester sings "Flying at the speed of light" - it's about the last word "light" it sounds a bit different and the question is, is it sounds different because of the different effects on the vocals or it's different vocal take?

     

    EDIT: sometimes try to listen to those fragments in the different order, it  can help to notice better the differences.

    EDIT2: the guitar loop at the beginning also has different effects:

    Thanks for the info! OML has 4:12 not 4:15 is it also because of few seconds of silence removed at the end?

    The same issues are in some editions of MTM WID is fade in, while SOTD has fade out at the end.

    That's what i thought. Is there anywhere in the credits an info like "mastered for a vinyl" for example in the credits for LOATR? Also, is Lost, BTH and OML have different lengths? Those are what they should have it:

    Yes on spotify and some other platforms there are 3 different versions of the WID single each one with different tracklist but since 2012 none of them currently have the single version of the song.

    BUT if that messes up Meteora transitions then don't do it.

     

    It's too late for that and if they will do that to the current already released album it will effect some of the past releases.

    That's because the single version of WID was included to all Minutes To Midnight pre-orders and later was associated with all already released versions of MTM probably because they didn't have the album version of it ready around the time when the single was out. So the digital single and album had the same single version of the song and had the same identifier (the ISRC code), so later in 2012 when they were fixing all the MTM albums by providing to them the album version of the song it was also affecting all the versions of the digital single.

     

    But in general, they can put out the single version without messing the versions in the album all they have to do is use a different ISRC code for the single version and that's all. I would love to have a single version of the song back again in the WID single. It would require them to re-release the single, but that doesn't seem a problem for them. They re-released WFTE as 3 track in 2020. New Divide, Heavy were re-relased in 2023 on spotify with different tracklistings.

  11. Small update on Papercuts - the label already delivered the hi-res versions for all tracks and reveal the quality for all those:

     

    Numb/Encore - 24-bit/96.0kHz

    QWERTY - 24-bit/96.0kHz

    New Divide - 24-bit/96.0kHz

     

    Just a reminder that all 3 will be available in hi-res quality for the first time.
