To be fair like HT20 was a first for the band, but look at the second time they did it with Meteora20, that was a quality step up. This is a first too, being the first time they’re doing an inter-album collection like this. Not saying it is an excuse to any fuck ups though, at all. If they genuinely made mistakes, they’ll learn to improve from them and not do it again. Believe it or not even the most sophisticated professionals still can mess shit up in their most skilled areas.

It's not like the 5 guys from the band do this stuff on their own and I don't think anyone complaining about this (and the HT20 situation back then) are specifically mad at Mike, Rob, Brad, Joe and Dave.

They have one of the biggest labels behind them that should have more than enough resources and experience to get this kind of stuff right.

    using AI

I think this is misleading. The majority of the quality upgrades don't involve AI upscaling at all, at least from what I can tell. For example, WFTE has no AI upscaling involved at all (and I would also assume that all AI models would produce shit output in that case anyway). I think in most cases they just had a better quality version laying around that were simply never uploaded to YouTube or they rescanned original tapes (like they most probably did for OSC back then). They only applied AI upscaling very selectively, e.g. in LOATR they only use it for specific scenes. I would guess that 75% of that video for example doesn't involve AI upscaling at all (or just very minor to bring it over the 4k finish line so to speak). All the Chester solo scenes for example don't look AI upscaled to me while the scenes in the beginning where Mike pulls of the helmet or the close up shot of Rob playing chess are definitely AI upscaled in a very visible way.

I wish they would have kept it away from all scenes though since a) I think the videos would have looked good enough without it and b) it creates this very distinct AI upscaling artifacting which we never can get rid of. AI upscaling is something that will only improve from here on out and with tech like RTX upscaling, it will happen on the client while playing back the video, but we won't be able to benefit from that in the future since parts of the videos already went through one pass of AI upscaling.

    Another shitty cashgrab by WB.

Please explain to me how they are going to make any impactful income from this? The couple of listens this gets is basically a rounding error that probably covers the cost it took to put this out.

  4. The multiple versions of the same album in general is completely overdone right now and it needs to stop. TS is taking this to a whole new level with her upcoming album.

It's an insult to fans. There is no way arguing around it. Create one product that people want to buy. If you want to make bank, which is totally fine, make a package that is worth spending money on (like the anniversary bundles) but don't create the same product in different colors with the only goal to make people buy it multiple times. I don't know in which world this is acceptable from any artist.

And please don't start this "It'S aLl On ThE rEcOrD lAbEl" bullshit. LP was big enough to negotiate contractual terms in their favor, there is no way they are hostages of the record label (and they continuously repeated that they are very happy with their relationship with Warner anyway).

  5. Why do the compilation album and Friendly Fire need different covers? Lost also didn't have separate artwork and just used the M20 cover.

I think the white version is the only thing we will get and the green thing is some fan made stuff.

  6. I think the cover and the title itself are perfectly fine. The cover might be a little bit boring but it‘s definitely not bad. And the title is just a fun word play. Nothing wrong with that.
Just the art style around everything screams „graphic design is my passion“ in the worst possible way which is not what I am used to when it comes to LP releases.

  7. On Spotify some of the video clips that play in the background got updated with a green scene that includes a number.

    In order that list is:

    01 Crawling
    02 Faint
    03 Numb/Encore
    04 Papercut
    05 Breaking The Habit
    06 In The End
    07 Bleed It Out
    08 Somewhere I Belong
    09 Waiting For The End
    10 Castle Of Glass

  8. Copying from what I wrote in the shoutbox:

I was debating with myself a lot recently if I should just not post anything here anymore to not just vent negative energy, but I guess I just want to get it out of my system once.

At this point I am glad if LP is not going to do anything anymore. It seems like Mike lost all of his artistic vision and direction. All of his recently released songs were very mid, he got lost in all of this NFT/Web 3.0 non-sense and now this whole Already Over stuff. It's almost as if he slowly turns into a caricature of himself.

Stuff he did was very inspiring and motivational to me, now I just roll my eyes and cringe when I see what he is up to next.

Guys calm down, don't forget that during the KROQ M20 interview Mike said that touring at the moment wasn't really possible, but that alot of other things regarding Linkin Park is starting to be possible again.

Seconds later in that interview he even mentions how careful he has to be with saying stuff like that to the fans because of their imagination, so he wouldn't say something like that if it wasn't a real possibility to begin with.

Is there real hope for a new album?

Maybe not in the direct future, but that doesn't mean that there isn't a chance the guys are just cooking up at least some songs together, may it be for release or only for them to jam to.

I am confused by your comment. The context of the interview you mention was Linkin Park but what is happening now is very obvious something solo/non LP. I don't see the relation and I don't think anyone in this thread is expecting something LP-ish.

If you mean the screenshot that was posted on the chat - it was the entry for the Celph Titled song, which was released 7 years ago.

The entries were added just recently though (which you can infer from the ID they have) which was the weird part. But it seems like the whole discography of both Celph Titled and Apathy were added recently, so their listing only showing up now after years of the songs being released is probably due to an event on their side and has nothing to do with this.

All I'm saying is, it's a pretty good way to hide an LP reunion show if you need to mark out a slot way in advance without ruining promotional plans.

While a reunion show would be A+, I hope they wouldn't do it in secret since I am not a huge fan of surprise/hidden reunion shows. Give people the chance to get tickets to whatever festival/concert where it will happen and give them time to plan.

Maybe it's a re-release to gather attention for a new tour coming up

He could just re-release it on CD with the bonus tracks for the first time without remastering it to do that.

A remaster is just super odd and nothing I would have ever expected from him. Especially for a release that happened so late in his career. At that point he had all the money, knowledge and connections to achieve the sound he wanted to. What changed in the last 5 years that makes him think that the album needs a remaster? I mean when they talked about remastering Hybrid Theory their argument was that there is no remaster needed because the tech and the way records are mixed and mastered didn't shift fundamentally. What's different in the case of PT?

Yeah Mike sorry this aint it, putting a few notes out of key and calling it “dissonant” isn’t a remix c’mon man

It was never meant to be a sophisticated remix. He said on stream that while creating the song he did a rather dissonant version for the sake of experimenting with it and this is it. It is more an experimental demo that was polished a bit and released as a remix and we should be glad that we got it at all. Otherwise in 10 years people would post "I wonder what that different version Mike once talked about on stream sounds like"

Lost was so big, why didn't they follow that up properly with Fighting Myself and More The Victim?

I think there are two reasons:

    1. Lost was way more successful than what they anticipated and they didn't prepare anything big afterwards. It was probably never meant to stick around the charts for that long.

    2. They don't want to get caught in the nostalgic trip. As much as it is nice that the song is successful, I can imagine that they don't want to be defined by releasing old stuff now. Especially by releasing old music they didn't consider worthy enough to put on the album back then.
