The Official Grey Daze Thread

Recommended Posts

Let's talk about the band that Chester was in before Linkin Park.

I'm pretty sure that many of you have heard their songs. I, personally, like all of their songs a lot, and not only due to the fact that Chester is there.

I hope that LESTAT is going to finish one great thing about this band, that he has been doing for a while :)

I love the Grey Daze material. I still think some of Chester's best vocal performances come from those 2 albums, he really pushed his range both as high and as low as it could go back then.

Wake Me is also an amazingly well-produced album, considering how unknown of a band they were and how limited their budget was.

What is Waterface?

Please explain. I have never heard of this!

Waterface was the band Sean Dowdell started after Grey Daze broke up. They released one album in 2001, I believe.

Wow, so whats this talk about the original? Are we really down to holding back information that only a handful of people care about, that isn't even relevant anymore? Hopefully I'm wrong, but that's just stupid and unnecessary. I love this band, even now, and you can't exactly log on to any site and find readily available information on them.

And for what its worth, its not like anybody didn't discuss it in the original topic.

Wow awesome! I love Grey Daze, and still listen to them all the time. Having all of this new information is really great. Thanks so much guys.

Hopefully one day a full live Grey Daze recording will show up...

I thought that this picture was of SDAHF band, so I asked Sean about it. Also I asked him to confirm that SDAHF and Grey Daze were separate bands, which did not become one another.

Here's his answer:

"this photo was the original line up of Grey Daze.

2 different bands and Chester and I played in both

People in the photo bottom left Jason Barnes

Bottom Right Sean Dowdell

Top left Jonathan Krause

Top RIght Chester Bennington

I hope that answers your questions!"

Also I asked him:

"One small question - did 'Kill The Flies' song had anything to do with Grey Daze?

Some people say that there was some kind of demo tape that included some Grey Daze demos (probably Commit and Come One) as well as 'Sean Dowdell and his Friends' track - Kill The Flies.

I tend to believe, that 'Kill The Flies' was only released on SDAHF 3-track tape, and was never again used with Grey Daze tracks anywhere."

Answer:

"kill te flies was from SD and His Friends and 3 songs on that tape were, Painted Pictures, God's Afraid, and Kill the Flies. nothing to do with Grey Daze

Commit and COme on were from another demo tape from Grey Daze

it was not used in Grey Daze"

LOL, he's not very communicative. And I suppose we already asked him about recordings too, and he answered that there are no recordings of other songs that are not in albums...

From everything I've heard/seen, the guy sounds like an ass actually. I mean, honestly, who is so bitter that he can't comment on things from a band nobody cares about anymore (besides a handful of people like us) from the early 90s?

That photo is so old school though, and it's nice to have it. Thanks for getting that info out of him... Hope it didn't inconvenience him too much...

he's probably tired of people being really interested in a project of his that (let's face it) has only endured due to someone else's fame. it sucks that he's not more communicative but I guess it's to be expected.

People think that about Kill The Flies because it was released in the internet at the same time as Commit and Come On. Kill The Flies was actually ripped from the SDAHF tape by some Grey Daze member (Jonathan Krause if I'm not mistaken). Commit and Come On were taken from some Grey Daze rehearsal session he had recorded (there were other songs in the tape).

After Kill The Flies became avaliable online, the SDAHF tape was sold on eBay.

Waterface was the band Sean Dowdell started after Grey Daze broke up. They released one album in 2001, I believe.

According to Jodi Wendt's biography (and more recently, the LPLive Grey Daze Encounter) Grey Daze and Waterface were the same band, and Sean Dowdell was not the only Grey Daze member to play for Waterface. They released one album in 2000 called Seven Days. Two promotional singles were released from this album: "Sincerely" and "X-Ation" (both received local radio airplay). The album also included a cover of Love Song (The Cure).

It's a good album. You guys should check it out. ;)

Jodi Wendt and Dave Sardegna are now in a band called SistamattiX.

Years ago, I was able to find a woman named Sharon that was a producer of a very local TV-show in Phoenix, AZ back in the yearly to mid-90s. I think her job basically was to film the entire local live shows and then show like 2-3 bands per episode to promote the local scene in general. One of the episodes of the show was dedicated to Grey Daze among others.

I contacted her and she said that she still has all of the tapes, but they are completely unorganized and not labeled, so finding the particular one among hundreds of others is not that easy task. However, she promised me to find it as soon as possible.

Shortly after that she had some legal and personal problems in her life. I think she wasn't online for years at this point.

That's like that stuff from the radio (interview about Wonderful or whatever) that we never got...
