3/15 Update:

Hey everyone! I got great news, everything is DONE and ready to go for Chester's birthday.

I know there's still a few days to wait, so I have a bonus treat for you!

Like I said, I was very lucky and got to hang out with them a lot during this 2yr~ period. I also recorded a bit of audio from this night after the show, backstage with them in their dressing room. I wasn't sure if I wanted to share any of this, but I went ahead and threw together a couple minutes that I thought was really funny, and I think the guys would agree :). Chester and Mike are both being hilarious and were having a great time celebrating Mike's birthday.

-Someone stole Mike's Outkast CD and he really misses it!

-Chester doesn't want you to set Linkin Park fans on fire, THANK YOU VERY MUCH!

-Mike tells us how he was really in the moment singing In The End that night,  and then a sudden distraction from the audience killed the moment.

-Dave had a different distraction of his own...

ENJOY AND SEE YOU MONDAY

Original Post:

Hello!

DISCLAIMER: I recorded this show myself 22yr ago as a broke teenager with a borrowed MD recorder + Stereo Mic (Shout out to Stephen!). I have not made this publicly available at this time, as I want to work on making it sound the best I can!

LP recently opened up their own discord server, and I joined up. Since then, it has re-kindled all sorts of memories from 20yr+ ago of me as a teenager in a pre-9/11 world hanging with Linkin Park on some of their early tours. I'm a longtime LP fan and lucky enough to be an OG LP Street Teamer. I have many experiences to talk about and share, but this thread isn't about me, it's about something I want to share with you guys. This had been missing for almost 20 years, and I found it while going through old boxes of concert photos a couple weeks ago:

hnfpeAb.png

As I have been more active in the NIN community, I had already been talking to NIN Live Archive. He told me he's friends with LPLive.net, and told me to come here and share with LPLive community! I sent him the Minidisc because I do not have a working MD player anymore.

We've done one transfer and mix so far, but we're still workin.g on getting it ripped and edited the best we can.  3/10 Update: We now have the 100% digital lossless rip we are happy with. Now I will spend time doing seamless loudness normalization around crowd screams at the end/beginning of songs and other things to make it sound better. Release date on Chester's Bday 3/20! Countdown at top.

Show Notes:

  • *** Mike brings up a St Louis local 17-year-old fan to freestyle with them before “Forgotten”. Mike goes on to say they originally met him the year before, while LP was on tour with Kottonmouth Kings. They saw him freestyling backstage that night (Oct. 6th 2000 @ Mississippi Nights) and loved it. Mike throws it to Joe to get the beat going. Joe flubs the beat, so Mike throws it over to Rob, and they proceed with a short freestyle.

  • Chester stays on stage after the show for a little while talking to the audience. He asks, “Anyone from Tulsa Oklahoma in the house? How long a drive is that?” Audience yells back, “7 hours!”, Chester replies “Holy crap. Be safe! Don't kill anybody on the way home!”

The pictures below, I haven't shared anywhere in 20yr+ besides with IRL friends until the past couple of weeks.

My sole intention in sharing these pictures is that they might bring happiness to other LP fans.

If you share them/link them, please just link this thread or something so people know where they came from and have context. I'd prefer if they weren't used as avatars or any other way that might strip away the spirit in which they are intended. HASHTAG GOOD VIBES ONLY okay thanks :)

Here's some pics with some descriptions from that night. Keep in mind, back then, a lot of places didn't even allow cameras or recorders of any kind (it would even say it on the tickets sometimes). From what I remember, this was one of those venues that was strict, but I was up for the challenge.

If you got popped with a camera, you chunk it in the trash. If you get caught with a recorder, you get kicked out. Like with this show, I would often be on guest lists, but it didn't matter. The security guy that throws away cameras doesn't give a crap who you are, especially if you're some teenager.

In order to take pics everywhere we went, basically our only option was to just bring disposable cameras. We would always buy the Fuji Film 2-pack of disposable cameras and I'd have one, and give the other to a friend in case one of us have to toss it.

The MD recorder was a big risk at the time. Luckily for me, it was cold as shit that night, and I wore my big blue jacket. I snuck in the MD recorder in a big baggy pocket with my wallet right next to it, hoping if I got frisked that they would think it's just the wallet. The mic and 6' extension I had coiled up in my inside breast pocket of my jacket. I put it all together once the house lights went down and AAF hit the stage. MD recording inside my pocket, wire going down the inside of my sleeve, and T-Mic in my hand.

Here's a few pics of the show.

Taproot and Alien Ant Farm opened.

Stephen Richards of Taproot came out into the crowd where the back of the pit ends and the elevated standing area starts, which was where I was planted:

Here are a few pics of LP from my vantage point. I didn't want to be in the pit since I was recording, so I didn't take too many pics of the show:

My friends and I with Mike and Rob right after the show ended to the right of the stage. Red security-guard-guy's belly to the left. lol

The boys let us come back and hang out after the show in their dressing room/green room whatever. This room was just to the right and back a bit from the picture above. I can still remember this night like it was yesterday (which says a lot for me!).

9OxL5TA.png

Everybody hung out that night for a while, except Brad who wasn't feeling good that night. All the guys of course made fun of him and said he was fine and he just really wanted to go listen to Britney Spears by himself (himseeeeeeeeelf). :)

2KBplsa.png

This was around Mike's birthday, so he felt like having a couple beers with Chester, and all the guys were exceptionally silly that night. Was a blast!

xCigre2.png

Here's a funny one of mike pretending he's hammered and drooling beer out of his mouth lol, too bad flash didn't kick in on that one, but oh well. Right after I took this pic he said to me, "THAT BETTER NOT BECOME THE INTRO TO AN LP WEBSITE!" lol.

uHJluB7.png

I had the best seat in the house, right next to Chester on the couch!

gBLZuKS.png

Although... Mike was sitting on the cooler and that's where the beer was, so one could argue he had the best spot. We'll say it's up for debate!

A4rNFI3.png

After Rob moved, Mike yoinked Rob's spot next to Dave on the table and had a victory beer:

U1kcG0F.png

Chester got in a fight with a beer bottle.

Not really, He just scraped his palm on a wet twist-off top.

So, of course he yelled, "THE BOTTLE ATTACKED ME!!!!"

po0Qhym.png

"SEE? RIGHT THERE! IT ATTACKED ME! TAKE A PICTURE!"

gsmCtbU.png

We were the last to leave, and this was the last pic taken that night. Chester sprawled out, holding up a beer, laying on my big blue/silver jacket I snuck everything in with. I only have an old version of this pic since I gave the original to my friend. I still have the negatives though! Just couldn't do a new scan of it.

Here's a close-up of the round green cloth aftershow pass that let me hang out after the show. The Mississippi Nights pass to the left of it is from my first ever LP show, also in STL when they were on the Riding High tour opening for KMK in 2000. I had an identical one for the kings of the game tour a month later also at Mississippi Nights which was my last LP concert in 2000. That one got soaked and it's just paper with a sticky backing so it falls apart. Was lucky to keep this one to be honest haha.

Thanks guys! Yeah, I'm so glad I found it. I also taped the Alien Ant Farm and Taproot sets and they're on a different minidisc, but I haven't found that one yet. So glad I found this one first! Hahaha

This is fucking awesome! It's so cool to have someone from back then come out on here after all these years... and with a never before released recording! I really enjoyed your pictures and story. Thanks for sharing all of this!!! :)

Thanks for this amazing gift! It's unreal. I'm a photo collector who likes to find or solve shows, coincidentally these photos of you with the band are on the old "pushmeaway" site, in which it didn't say the day and place, but I knew they were from St. Paul because Chester is dressed just like in the signature at Vintage Vinyl. I also know that you went to see them in 2000, during the Kings Of The Game Tour, because on that old site there are also the photos! Thanks for everything

Just awesome. Thanks for sharing this. Great pictures and an awesome story about the night.

There are so many things saved on tape/ film that are in attics and basements so it's always great to see something surface like this.

During COVID I digitized hundreds of family tapes, it's so easy, I know there is more LP gold out there. An OG teamer. Amazing.

Holy crap, you're right! Hahaha. Yes, I used to talk on AIM with lots of people back then, it's hard to keep track, but I definitely remember talking regularly with Galoipo - I think that PMA was her(?) site?

I also at the time was working with the guys on linkinparkweb.com and also Chester's brother Brian Bennington for a little while ran the Linkin Park Newsletter back then.

Late 90's and early 00's were an interesting time for bands. Not all bands had their own websites yet, so it was mostly fans running things. Unfortunately I don't think LPW lasted very long, as I think a lot of the stuff they were wanting to do got absorbed by WB and by '02-'03 it was mostly official stuff at that point.

Looks like PMA had 1 more pic I didn't include. We were the last ones there, and this was the last pic taken that night. I still have all the negatives of this show, but I gave the original printed picture to my friend that was with me, so that's why it wasn't included with this latest dump :)

¡Santa mierda, tienes razón! Jajaja.

Of course, that photograph was missing. Pardon my mistake regarding the city, I said "St Paul" instead of St Louis. lol. I saw on your profile that you have attended several shows. ¿You has memories or pictures those shows? It will be very exciting :)
