lpliveusername
In celebration of Chester's birthday this month, our Recordings Of The Week for March will consist of recordings from his side projects. We understand this won't generate a lot of excitement from the community, but we thought this would be a good way to pay tribute to Chester. Our first recording of the month is taken from the Family Values Tour 2001, which marked the very first time Chester got to perform on stage with his favorite band ever and one of his biggest influences: Stone Temple Pilots (who headlined the tour). Following the first two shows of the tour, Chester was invited to sing Dead & Bloated with the band at the St. Paul show and did so for the 21 shows that followed. This all happened 12 years before he officially became their frontman. The show we are posting today is particularly special for a number of reasons. Not only it was the final show of the tour, taking place in Tacoma, Washington on November 17, 2001, it was also the only known time where Chester got on stage for two different songs: 'Dead & Bloated' and 'Sex Type Thing'. Being the last song of the tour, Stone Temple Pilots invited members of Deadsy, Static-X, Staind and Linkin Park and their respective crew members on stage so they could sing together. Huge thanks to staff member [AndOne] for allowing us to post the full audience audio of the show. Tacoma was also one of the shows recorded for the official Family Values Tour 2001 live album. Linkin Park's 'One Step Closer' and Stone Temple Pilots' 'Creep' (both songs featuring Staind vocalist Aaron Lewis) are taken from this show. While it's unknown exactly where the other tracks were recorded, it is known that at least 'Wicked Garden' is from the San Jose show and it has been confirmed by the Stone Temple Pilots crew that 'Wonderful' is a studio recording done specially for the album. A video of 'Sex Type Thing' shot from the stage was posted to the members area of the official Family Values Tour website. As a bonus, we are providing a download of this video. Be warned that this is an internet video from 2001, so the quality won't live up to today's standards. It's still a fine piece of history as this is a rare instance of Phoenix coming out to perform with another band. You can see him singing into a megaphone right beside Chester at the beginning. Thanks to Rik from BelowEmpty.com for the file. xxHybridXeroxx
Thank you! And for it not being as exciting as LP, I say I’d love any previously unreleased shows. I’d probably be just as excited getting some of those as LP shows. But this is really really cool! This was previously uncirculated right? YRQRM0
I really hope that one day we'll get a nice release of pro-shot STP w/ him. I know there's a couple of vids, but I'd love some live tracks on streaming or something more, perhaps as an album anniversary or something like LP has been doing. KikiSparkle
I ADORE this and I'm very excited for more to come. How amazing would this have been for Chester?! To be on stage singing with the band he'd idolised since a teen. So.... did Chester ever strip down to his boxers with Scott or did he remain fully clothed? Asking for a friend. 😃
Astat
That Sex Type Thing video might be the most chaotic thing I've ever seen, lol. The potato 2001 quality gives it more charm, IMO.

I thought this too very crazy on stage but surely Chester had great fun
