"Guilty All The Same" - New Linkin Park Single!

Recommended Posts

I kinda like the song i have only listened to it ONCE

I was listening to it, i was jamming, very surprised band then bang something went wrong with Poweramp during the middle of the song it started playing another song..

It cut my little ritual I always listen to any new LP song with my special headphones and with the lights off.

So far all I can say is that this new song is great, not awesome, it really needed screaming.. It kinda felt like THE BLACK PARADE by MCR, Chester doesn't sounds great but probably that's the way Shinoda wanted him to sound.

Very surprised to have Rakim! Mike for sure will do the verse, or maybe there's another MIKE version coming out soon.

Is there any pleasing you at all? :/

This always happens. Let him have a few more listens and by tomorrow he will be praising the hell out of it.

Quick thoughts on first listen:

1. The chorus sounds not a million miles away from that Sum 41 song.

2. That solo in the end is sort of pointless. Just covering it up with all that wah and a few random notes. I've never really been a fan of the similar thing that Brad does on the extended outro of Faint.

3. It sounds like a grower, though. I can imagine it would sound killer live, if anything. Has an anthemic feel to it.

4. Not digging the guitar tone. I wish Brad got back to that HUGE monster of a guitar tone that he had on the first two albums. By that I don't mean that they make HT/Meteora-esque songs, this is just fine. Bold, even...which is always a good thing in my books. But that sound that Brad had with the Mesa Boogies (and a million other things he did with the mic placements to get that meaty dirty channel tone) would have worked SO MUCH better on this song. But then again, wishful thinking.

Just my opinion!

The actual guitar playing was very nice in the song, but the production quality was horrible IMO. The guitars sound nowhere near as nice as the ones heard on their first 3 albums and this mix sounds like something we'd get on an LPU CD or something. Not only that but the vocals just weren't performed well and the lyrics weren't really LP quality either. It just needed better production in general.

Now I feel stupid for being disappointed with BID when it came out

Few thoughts on it:

1) Definitely better with headphones than without

2) Sounds like newSTP a bit

3) As far as playing this live, if Mike won't rap Akim's part, then I could definitely see them pulling something like BIO's bridge and throw verses in to replace the original verse. I think this may be a song they play around with live.

4) Could definitely see this as either a set or encore opener to get the crowd hyped.

Someone is high.

The raw Chester vocals, guitars sound similar.

I think there are some bits where they could easily be compared.

1) Yeah, it does.

2) Not really, but I can kind of see the comparison.

3) I'd be fine with this song replacing BIO live.

4) Yeah, it would definitely work. It might also work as a main set closer, with something done with the Outro.

Not a big fan of this... wow, first LP song I haven't loved. The chorus is lacking the ''heavy'' I thought would be there. Not a fan of the insanely long intro and I hate the fact that they would have a guest on a main album, especially on the lead single. Really let down. I guess I should have kept my expectations lower. Btw, this isn't heavy. Maybe in LP's world it is.

You'll be saying you love this song by the end of the week, lol.

I dunno, look, i'm stoked that they brought back the guitars and raw drum sounds. But i dunno it just doesn't give me the WOW factor that i normally get from LP single releases. Pretty good song to air guitar too but nothing out of the ordinary. Def stay on this path from now on, maybe add a little electronic stuff (synths etc), but no aoki bs. 6/10

I think that guitar tone is specifically a result of Ethan Mates being an engineer on 4 consecutive albums, but not working on HT/Meteora. He tends to gravitate towards more vintage-sounding guitars, even for heavier stuff (he was a big part of why they incorporated Strats into their guitar arsenal starting on MTM). As a result, they don't layer the rhythm tracks as much as they used to. I'd say this song has a pretty similar tone to No More Sorrow or Given Up. Those songs were recorded with "heavy" guitars like PRSs and Les Pauls, but they're really light on the layering and a lot more dry-sounding. On Meteora in particular, I've heard stories of their being 8 to 10 guitars all playing the same thing with different EQ and phase settings on tracks like From the Inside and stuff like that. I don't think they go above 3 guitars (basic left/right/center) for rhythm tracks that are playing the same parts anymore.

There's also some holdover stuff on there from the last couple albums too. The A7X-like "harmonized" riff people are talking about is actually just one guitar part with the Electro-Harmonix HOG on it. At least it isn't present throughout the whole song like it is on Victimized and Wretches and Kings though, I thought that effect got old pretty fast.

It's definitely not a 10/10. If Chester had some badass screams at the end of the second and final chorus, it would come fucking close. The lyrics are pretty repetitive, and very Linkin Park-ish. However, the instrumental caught me very off guard, as did Rakim's part. In a good way. Chester sounds very raw, which I like but could be seen as a negative. Overall, 8/10. Pretty good for a lead single.

Vocally, I do see similarities to STP. I've been listening to High Rise a lot since it came out.

My favorite comment I saw online about this song:

shinoda and hahn are the reason this band was ever good. them producing over that fuck rubin is terrific.

Word. I'm excited for this album, gentlemen.

Agreed. And I didn't know about the 8-10 guitar tracking. That sounds nuts, haha! I've just quad tracked stuff, and that sounds excessive too sometimes. I'll look it up.

And that's a HOG, yes. Not a fan of it.

It's different, but I very much like it! Still as to grow a bit though, since I just heard it for the first time. Rakim sounds good, but I hope Mike has some extended/altered version with himself on it aswellm

Is there any pleasing you at all? :/

Yes, if there were actual screaming vocals or maybe even the slightest bit of aggression from Chester, I would be very pleased.

GATS AND PARTY HATS! Damn I love this song! Haha. Refreshing, but I do agree and wish CB gave a scream or two, but since this is the direction of the album I'm sure that's not out of the question for some songs!

Anyways, is there going to be a photoshoot for this album? Cuz they are using a LT promo pic to promote their new single. A music video for their new single? When does it hit radio? I'm shocked that Warner let LP just give away their new single for free, unless this isn't the single for the 6th album and is for Transformers 4 or something. When is there official announcement? Mike said the album still isn't even done yet, right? Are they going to have the album ready by like the Carnivores tour? So many questions.
