Full Version: So they listened...

Check out this post by our staff member Mike after the show in Köln yesterday.

After hanging out with some members of the crew, he informed me that the band had seen some complaints online recently about the setlists for the European leg of the tour and that they decided to change up what they were playing. Was that because of this 5 page thread? Most likely so! This is where last night comes into play. 'Papercut' was swapped with 'Lying From You' and 'The Messenger' was swapped with 'Leave Out All The Rest'. Read the show page here for the full setlist.

How awesome! He also notes that these were played unrehearsed. This would make this the second show where such a thing has happened, the first being Paris with a surprise performance of 'A Place For My Head' for the Hybrid Theory 10th Anniversary.

What do you guys think? Do you like the fact that the band took notice to the problem a lot of fans had and changed it up? So what do you predict they'll do for the rest of the tour? Is LP becoming a band that can almost flawlessly pull off playing random, unrehearsed songs in the set each show? Do you think they will do this for each show with maybe 1-2 different songs? Would that make the shows more exciting for you to go to if you didn't know the full set in advance?

What other songs would you like to see them do? Do you think they'll randomly pull out 'From The Inside' or another song they played on the Minutes To Midnight touring cycle on this tour?

And lastly, this goes without saying.... thanks, Linkin Park! We appreciate you changing it up live for us!

Thanks Ana and deko2603 for the HD videos!

2 constantly changing songs - nice enough.

I still wait for From The Inside and the debut of Burning in the Skies (:
DeniseShinizzle
Thats awesome!

I'd be amazing if they change a lot more songs! Who cares if its unrehearsed or what not .. we are there to rock & I think they too!

I mean I'd die for songs like APFMH, By Myself, Don't Stay or The Little Things .. tongue.gif
Its not that I want only old stuff or something, but I want a few differences that makes each show special.

I've (and a lot of others too) already been to a LP show this year & Frankfurt is coming up next week and if they would change the setlist for the last show in Germany I'd be so happy! smile.gif
(& I mean the shows this year cost a lot ..)

Sexy. Just damn sexy.

I think they'll actually continue doing this and I sure don't see why not. If they know it, play it. They seem more confident playing unrehearsed shit (and they actually sound good on it).

There's a lot of possible, likely songs they can do for this: Points Of Authority, Pushing Me Away, Don't Stay, Somewhere I Belong, Lying From You, From The Inside, Leave Out All The Rest, In Pieces

More possible but unlikely ones in my opinion: Valentine's Day, The Little Things Give You Away, Hands Held High, In Between, My December, Pushing Me Away (Piano Version)

Hell yeah, make it happen wink.gif rotating 1-2 songs each night from that first list would be so badass and make the DSPs that much more exciting.

Absolutely!

They can do it & 10$ for a DSP is it worth it ..

Awesome! Thanks LP for listening to us!

The "new" songs in the set were "old" 4 years ago, aka the last time LP played them to death.
That's LP's biggest issue. Nothing is special after the first time, as the DSP era has proven.

Unimpressed by the stage setup, too. After all the talk of overhauling the live show, what was all the fuss about? It looks incredibly weak after reading interviews and watching the VMA & laser show videos.

Cool that they aknowledge us and we have a forum to praise and complain. I love LP but think they have the resources to do so much more. A thousand Suns was a step forward; the live shows are a step back.
DecanoLP
So awesome they noticed these complaints about not rotating the setlist. I bet they'll continue doing this with other songs (From The Inside, Somewhere I Belong, Points Of Authority...) in the future.

If these are good changes is another point. But it is great to see they are doing it smile.gif
Lordofdonuts
That's why LP is a great band, they care about their fans.
andydlp
Much props LP...much props!

I said exactly the same thing in the 'setlist thread' after they played APFMH, i.e. do you think they noticed the fans complaining and thats the reason they changed it up and interacted more.

One or two folks said no but Hahninator backed me up! Cheers man!

By the by...Mike if you read this...lose the Stevie Wonder specs. They seriously hamper your cool level tongue.gif

That!

Don't ask me why, but sometimes I guess there's someone showing the threads to the band guys

I'm enjoying it. Seems they don't need exactly rotate the set, it's just change two or three songs each show and it's alright (to me) biggrin.gif
graveguard
I guess that you can't expect don't stay. Brad's using a 7 string guitar on that song and I don't think that he cares that guitar with him if the song isn't planned. (same for with you (as far as I remember) and a few other songs. for a full list ask astat :-D )
corey_UKLP
In a time where bands seem less and less likely to listen to the people that really make them who they are, this just shows the everyone of these boys are true professionals dedicated to the cause and supporting there fans just as much as we support them.
wiiesel
damn...they're playing unrehearsed songs but they play them perfect anyway ^^

I think it's great that they're listening to the fans and try their best to please everyone (though I like papercut more than LFY ;P no I don't complain)
auburntiger
This is cool to see...

What about *cough**cough*With You*cough**cough*?
wesseltje1
Papercut/LFY/With you/Blackout
Messenger/LOATR/Burning in the Skies/Pushing me Away

Hope...
rav0k
Now can we rejoice and be a happy LPL family?

smile.gif

P.S. I noticed Chester jumping from a platform again when LFY kicked in....that bastard better be careful.

Incorrect, Its not a 7 string, its actually a Ibanez RG470XL, difference is this allows brad to go down the extra two steps in tunning without strings slacking and sounding like shit.

But yeh the song cannot be played if thats been removed from his rig.

same thing also applies for with out and other 7 string songs.

I highly doubt brad has a 6 string strung like 7 in his rig.

AND also Figure.09. same situation.
tschenneck
It's really awesome they do this. As Mark said before, they are slowly going the Metallica-way, and I LOVE it! I also like the idea about PR 2011 in Germany.

LP, you are making me happy!
DeniseShinizzle
PR 2008 in Germany was awesome but I didn't liked the bands (except n.e.r.d.) xD
And we had to wait sooooo long....

I want Linkin Park at Rock am Ring next year with a kick ass setlist! tongue.gif

/ just dreaming of it ..
GigaScythe
Damn, LFY and LOATR live in 2010 look incredible. Thanks for the videos smile.gif

So the second LP starts changing songs live this year, Chester jumps off a platform on LFY, falls, breaks his back and causes the entire world tour to be canceled.

Step 1: Break your back on LFY, canceling the tour
Step 2: ???
Step 3: PROFIT!

lol

LMFAO

That has to be the first time I have ever seen those steps applied and actually work. laugh.gif

Changing the setlists = WIN

It makes every show unique. Can't for the DSP's!
CitizenErased
I just appreciate that they actually heard about our complaining and they did something about. A lot of bands don't listen to their fans so it's good to see that they switched it up, even though it's 2 songs it's better than nothing. Thanks for listening LP.
Arielbimba
They are so awesome for listening to what being said and written by their fans.

I'm really happy with the changes because i like LFY more then papercut (though it's a hard choice between the 2 lol) and LOATR more the the messenger (which i don't like at all). It's also refreshing and keeps the element of suprise in cencerts and IMO it's great.

I'm wondering if they play HHH in israel as it so rellevent to the situation here...Nov. 15 be here allreadyyyy tongue.gif
linkin_lp_park
The most awesome thing about this; You can never say 'No they are not gonna play that song on this tour' because you don't know what the fuck they are gonna play biggrin.gif
KATHYxx
LP once decided to have multiple rotating setlists on tour and then a whole bunch of people just HAVE to have it every time and whine when it doesn't happen.

and then they cave into such demands.

Makes me wonder if LP will become hesitant to try new things in the future, because as soon as they do something special a bunch of people will whine and yell at them if they can't do it anymore, and since LP doesn't wanna look like a bunch of uncaring meanies, they feel obligated to comply.

It's nice that LP is so nice. But you have to realize that nice people have a tendency to get walked all over. LP should only be nice on the basis that fans don't cry over dumb shit like this.
franticfreak
Its pretty cool that they change the set now smile.gif

Maybe we realy get the luck to hear By myself, With You or Runaway biggrin.gif
LinkinParkForever275
what do you use for a camera ana?
I used the panasonic dmc zs7 (tz10) which is nearly perfect!
I can upload more of the show too and from the show of dortmund too!
MONDREUS240
1. GET THE FUCK UP!
2. Dave looked cool when he was standing on the platform during LOATR, he must've felt special.
3. I find it really cool if they do a different 2 songs every night. It would be a good way to surprise us!

This! I never understood how LP switching out LFY and LOATR is special. Those are things they've done before. It's the same thing with the Reanimation CD, Collision Course, Hybrid Theory, rotating set list and other things. LP did those things in that moment of time. But yet people want them to keep doing it every time. Repeating the same thing over and over again isn't special in my opinion. I liked Reanimation, Collision Course, Hybrid Theory but i wouldn't want it repeated again. But wanting them to keep doing the same thing over and over again means they won't have the room to actually come up with new ideas or do new things just like they did in those moments to surprise us. For this tour, i want LP to come up with something new that they haven't done before that would make this tour special and not a repeat of anything else. And frankly, i hate that they switched out a new song in place of an old one. Only old songs should be switched out for old songs.

That's right sad.gif I attended to Stuttgart and "The Messenger" was really one of the best songst they ever played :/ I really hope they will play it again in Frankfurt!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=byVrRXYptWY

This was fucking amazing!

Please LP don't change the good new songs with good old... Just rotate good old with good old... It's the A THOUSAND SUNS Tour! And The Messenger was really one of the best Live Performances!!!

Agree KATHYxx! The first time I saw this post, I felt a little ashamed that it had to come down to this. To quote the original post; this question was asked, "Do you like the fact that the band took notice to the problem a lot of fans had and changed it up?" By no means was this A PROBLEM. Playing the exact same setlist for shows shouldn't have to be a problem. We have to respect that most of their focus is on the ATS song lineup. I'm grateful that they are even making the slightest tweaks to their shows. Here, I'll finish the title to this post based off the attitude: "So they listened.....Only because we kept whining, complaining, and bitching about their already awesome setlist." Hopefully we won't beg like this again and the only complaining that will happen will be directed to those who should stop whining in the first place.

Don't get me wrong, I love the info this site brings to the table on an everyday basis, but sometimes, it can get excessive of what we really "want".
Geki
LFY is pretty badass. I love how they're switching up the sets a little. I'd still love to see some really different songs played on occasion though. Such as Qwerty and stuff they never play. Imagine Qwerty being in the beginning of the set along with Given Up and Wretches.
aravind221
damn!!!!!!!!!! thats pure awesomeness , i wanna see lp play blackout wink.gif
FCastro
Another thing I remembered now:

In 2009, me and other guys posted some suggestions about what Mike could sing over Points intro. Then he used some of our suggestions live, and since that time I guess the band cares about what your fans think...
Bliss
Lying From You and LOATR sounded amazing! I'm happy they are changing it up and these are the songs I hope for:
Don't Stay
Figure.09
Points of Authority
Burning in the Skies
Somwhere I Belong
From the Inside
Pushing Me Away
With You.

It would be awesome if all of these were played the same night, but i know that won't happen so if all these songs were played over time. (a couple each show) would be aawesome
Jozzie
The unexpected play list definitely makes it more exciting. The fact that they do take notice of what the fans have to say and doing something about it shows that they care. That's why I love them so much.
CookieMonster
Hey look, no mic stand for Chester on LOATR.
