Hello.

I thought of this, not sure about it but I thought I would share it with you all anyway.

You could add a small music player to the sidebar of the main homepage of the site. This would be the LPL Radio.
Each week you upload a new song to that music player (when you add the new song, you remove the previous one) which would be known as song of the week. The song would be chosen by staff of course and a new song would be uploaded every lets say Monday. You would also make sure the music isn't downloadable on the player.

Can't and won't happen, at least with official tracks.

Wow, your quick to discard ideas.
Anyway, no harm in posting the idea.

To put it simply, the legal issues for any site such as this one to host official tracks (and yes, we'd have to host them in order to stream them) isn't worth the trouble.

We are, however, having internal discussions about hosting and streaming every known audio source minus DSPs.

Better?

Hey Nick.

There is an extremely popular radio service out there known as shoutcast. With that, you can make this radio idea happen. You don't host files. It plays right out of your itunes, or winamp. I've used it before. You can even "DJ" of sorts, by adding in your voice via mic live. Good use if you are having problems with the whole space and bandwidth thing.

However, I still wouldn't recommend official material on this. Im pretty sure some Warner goons visit the site.

Hey Nick...

Check my reply in the other thread, I don't like to have the same conversation twice. laugh.gif

But, one point that I didn't bring up in the other thread is that space and bandwidth aren't an issue. We've got a very generous host and even if costs rise, I'm pretty sure we can cover a fair amount per month. We've lived through some massive releases with very few hiccups when it comes to downtime or bandwidth issues.

Replied in the other thread. tongue.gif. I thought you mentioned that space and bandwidth WERE an issue. Maybe I read something, somewhere wrong. Heh.

Could be. As I said, we're lucky with our current hosting but if it's gonna cost a buttload to do this, it's going to be a major point of discussion for staff.

Hey what about an internet radio. I used to be a DJ on a radio site. Its basically like an radio channel you listen to in your car expect online. Users tune it, request songs, dj talks gives out quizes, prizes the whole ordeal. It would be pretty cool and I'd put my hand up for Djing.

just a though really.

Had the same idea for years but then, what are you going to stream if you can't stream official music?
Also, if you just going to stream linkinpark related material, you will be repeating the same songs after the first 5hours of the show.

needs more ideas !

This was never intended to be a live stream or show, but an on-demand selection of streaming audio.

As for the idea in general, we've got something different going on... New thread in the newswire spells it out.

I really hope that you dont stream songs, concerts or whatever
streaming always mean low quality
it's better to upload one concert every week like you are doing right now, flac and 320kbps is alright

the compression of the streaming will kill the quality
plus to me it's annoying to listen music in a website

streaming audio is just old school.

The compression necessary to stream that much audio is why we're doing our download of the week. It's always been about quality here at LPL. smile.gif
