Today we present a unique download - a vinyl Joe created back in the days entitled Mista Hahn's Tasty Gas Station Breaks From The Orient. The vinyl recently appeared on eBay and was bought by LPL member Ivan (aka 'Mohnaryl'), who ripped it in FLAC for us. This is a rerip and upgrades the inferior quality (192kbps mp3) of the previously circulating version on the web.

On this vinyl, Joe has a lot of random samples from all over the place, but quite a few Linkin Park samples are included too. "Watch them flee" from 'Dedicated', 'In The End' samples, 'By Myself' vocal samples and more are included. Also, some old live intros LP used to use in 2000/2001 are included. For a full track-by-track list of things included, click here. If you recognize any that aren't listed, feel free to leave a comment!

Since this vinyl contains samples of 'It's Goin' Down' (released in January 2002 as a single), we're not exactly sure when it was made. You can see in 2001 live videos, though, that Joe has this vinyl on stage, so we're assuming he made it sometime between 1999-2001.

DOWNLOAD: (Right click -> Save as...)
MP3 (w/ artwork)
FLAC

Enjoy!

1: Samples for live show interludes and intros from 2000-2002 live shows that Joe used.
2: Crawling samples and some drum synth stuff.
3: By Myself Chester vocal samples and other samples from that song.
4: Cure For The Itch. Random (unreleased?) samples.
5: Variety of different voice samples.
6: More random samples. I can't pick anything specific out here. Guitar stuff, random humming noise, vocal samples.
7: Papercut live intro sample and a synth track.
8: Sample from the end of the APFMH demos (APFMH/Esaul/etc). Sounds like a siren. A few random ones.
9: Forgotten samples - the live intro "beat" sample that's also in the middle of the song. "Hoo ha" sample too.
10: Samples from Points Of Authority scratches. Has a sampled guitar part from near the end of the track.
11: Very random samples. There's part of the end of Session played at a few times. A few samples that sound like they're likely from unreleased tracks due to how they're played. Maybe some are used randomly in some LP tracks we already know.
12: More random stuff. The girl speech before It's Goin Down' is included. With You/Wth>You screech sample, female "ahhhh" sample and other various stuff. I believe a sample from 'Rock And Roll', the song Chester and Mike joined HBMS for.
13: Random vocal samples. Sounds like the backing track sample from an unreleased song? Who knows. Random as it gets here. I'm sure Mike/Joe had a lot of beats from this time period. Maybe some made it into songs, maybe some didn't.
14: More random vocal samples and random noise samples. One near the beginning sounds like the sample played in Tokyo in 2007 during the barricade break intermission. Another in the middle sounds like that too.
15: "Watch them flee" vocal sample from Dedicated. "Mixed media"/"Step up to the microphone", etc samples from Step Up...mostly every sample in that song is in here. "After years of painstaking research", etc. Everything Step Up-related. Other few random things.
16: Technique vocal sample, KYUR (off Reanimation) sample, beat from the Deftones "Around The Fur" sample on repeat...very interesting.
17: More random samples. Some used in Joe's live interludes from the old days.
18: In The End samples. Intro and the verse stuff, etc.
19: Random samples. I can't identify anything I've heard before in it.
20: More random stuff (surprise!).
21: Scratching stuff by Joe. This sample is on repeat but you can hear it in some oldschool LP tracks, actually a good number of them.

The "Guitar Stuff" is from the chorus of Carousel.(Maybe the song was played in 2000-2001?!)

I'm pretty sure I read in an interview somewhere that they had rehearsed it within that time period and were planning to play it live, but it got scrapped or something. But who knows, maybe they played it at one of the shows lplive has no info about!!

Ah cool, thanks. Yeah perhaps it was! Only way we'll know is if we eventually get some live recordings from back in the day haha. Or ask Shinoda, he'd know.

I found the interview here!
"We'll be using sound checks on the headline tour to work out some new and old material to incorporate into the set, songs like My December” and Carousel.

yeah it's definitely from 1999. I can hear some of it on the HT 2-Track Demo. But was the vinyl made before or after the HT 8-Track Demo CD?

A few samples are from the 90's but we don't know when the vinyl was pressed. There is no copyright date written on it.

Differences in this version versus the inferior one circulating:
- Correct track split (21 in this version versus 18)
- The way it was transferred. "It was ripped using Line-In of the integrated soundcard (probably Chipset integrated by Realtek® ALC892) of MSI MS-7673 MB directly from vinyl player (Denon DP-200USB). Vinyl player has built-in amplifier. Previous rip was made using OLD vinyl player Electronica (Soviet Union probably), which had a problem with amplifier. It didn’t have left channel at all, so it was mono." -SergSlim
So basically, a stereo rip w/ bass versus a mono rip.
- FLAC obviously (and 320kbps mp3) versus 192kbps mp3.

I hope someone asks something about it in an LPU chat with Joe, if it's gonna be rescheduled, and I hope he's gonna answer it.
