The FIFA version has another vocal take, and even some little change in the lyrics.

no demos or remixes, they are already in their list. 1stp Klosr it's from the promo?

about High Voltage i see your point, but since it never titled as another version - it's just (very) alternate version.

1stp Klosr is from Reanimation. I don't know where the radio version came from.

I agree with what Astat said many times in various topics here on LPLive, some songs on the LPU CDs shouldn't be called "demos".

For those of you who have been keeping track, “Across The Line” is a brand new, unreleased song. It was recorded during the “Minutes To Midnight” sessions, and was originally entitled “Japan.” We know a lot of the fans on the LPU boards have wanted to hear this song, in its entirety, for a long time. We’re putting it on the LPU9 CD for you!

Fans first heard the new song, “Across The Line,” during online video episodes (“LPTV”). Originally entitled “Japan,” fans sought out the song for years, but the band had never released it. In response to fan feedback, the band decided to finish the song and make it available as a highlight of LPU9.

"One Step Closer (Rock Mix)" is not a remix, neither the ECW version. Just listen to them. People who don't pay attetion even say they sound the same as the album version.

Wait... So ATL wasn't really from MTM either? It was re-written and released in 2009? Makes me wonder how many actual ''MTM b-sides/demos'' we actually have. I think No Roads Left and What We Don't Know may be the only MTM demos that were actually from 2006/2007 and not re-worked on.

Edit: i've found 3:54 version when Chester start to sing at 00:04, but it looks like somebody just cut it.

Blackout

4:40 Album Version

4:38 FIFA 11 Soundtrack (a.k.a. Black Out) [Different Mixing, Another Vocal Take, Little Lyrics Changes]

Robot Boy

4:29 A Thousand Suns

4:31 LPU 11 [Test Mix, Optional Vocal Take]

What's the difference?

Both have alternative vocal takes and a different mix. None of them was released with the word "demo".

The ECW version is from a soundtrack/compilation album similar to the WWE series. "One Step Closer" was the theme song of a wrestler called Nova.

and POA from hybridtheory.com for example, titled as a demo? and the difference is here it released to a soundtrack and here for Demos CD.

The ECW Anarchy Rocks mix of One Step Closer is totally different from the album version - It's actually very similar to the mix used in Plaster, with the beefed-up drum track, louder bass, and more emphasized samples, but it lacks the bridge vocal samples in the intro. The difference in the track length just comes from the "interlude" that leads into the next track being tacked onto the end of it (there are short clips of each of the featured wrestlers talking before "their song" on the CD).

I know it was originally a demo for MTM, but 'Japan' sounds very different from ATL. You can still tell it is the same song, just different. I mean it's in the same nature as Blackbirds, Debris, Pretend To Be, etc, which were originally MTM songs but re-worked on in later years. I guess I'm just really picky.. For example, if LP were to take an old Meteora demo right now and re-work it and release it, it would lose it's magic for me, I would rather hear demos from the actual time frame of the album. But anyways, I'll stop talking about this here. Not the right thread.

Why the hell do people keep debating this every few weeks? Across the Line was recorded during the Minutes to Midnight sessions. The *ONLY* demos we've gotten that were "completed" after the album they were originally intended for were Pretend to Be and Not Alone. Debris was obviously in play at some point during the A Thousand Suns sessions based on that short clip of it on LPTV, but we don't have any evidence that they actually did additional work on it at that point, and you'd think if they did, it wouldn't have been labeled as a Minutes to Midnight demo on the LPU CD (unlike Pretend to Be, which was labeled appropriately as a 2008 demo rather than a 2006/2007 one). LP revisits a lot of their old demos during the early phase of working on a new album, but that doesn't mean they actually do anything with them.

It's funny when you look at the sources linked above. Only the press release mentions how the track was finished "later" upon fan responses.

Mike never mentions this in his post, he says it's a MTM sessions song. We can hear the song in the Making of, just with gibberish lyrics.

This proves again that press releases are full of shit. Just like MTV and other sources cite for years, that LP played over 300 shows in 2001 (or within in a year), which is complete bullshit too.

Yes that is a true fact. However, when Mike says they "finished" Across The Line, it most likely means the edit they did to it on the CD. We all know about the longer version so I take that to mean they did the edit and then put it on the CD. The fact about that song is that Pictureboard was on the LPU9 CD before at the last minute Shinoda replaced it with ATL. So he probably did the edit and said fuck it, let's use ATL. I don't know if the "sample" thing was in play at that time with Pictureboard or not (like maybe they are using that as just an excuse now perhaps, or maybe not). The reason I heard was that Mike thought it wasn't "good enough" (he mainly picks the LPU CDs himself, at least 9, X, 11 and 12) and wanted a better song on there.

ATL would be labeled as something different (not an MTM unreleased demo) if it had actual work done to it later on besides an edit.

I've heard a few radio stations play WFTE in a very slightly higher key. Dunno if that counts. It's small but noticeable.

Thats because they sped up the song just a touch. A lot of radio stations do it to get through more songs.
