  1. About the snippet--I'm glad they decided to take this direction. They're a group of six adults. They aren't singing about angst anymore, they tried the whole worldly political thing, they tried the whole profound and visionary thing...now they're just making music that has a good melody, that they can have fun with, and experiment with different sounds. As for the much earlier discussion about first singles from each album: I agree that One Step Closer is not that strong of a song, probably one of the worst on HT, but I still remember watching the world premiere of the music video on MTV, and falling in love instantly. Somewhere I Belong IS a very well done song, even now it has this feeling and these sounds that I don't get from other songs. What I've Done is good but "generic" for an LP song, and The Catalyst was good but they tried really hard to be "out there" and it takes away from it. ALSO, I HATE HATE HATE the non-album version of The Catalyst.... They get rid of one of the "Lift me up..." iterations in the bridge and that part is SO important, it brings in the bass line and builds up the drums which are fantastic. I can't listen to the non-album version.
  2. Still don't understand why LP fans are being so narrow-minded. Yes, "Living Things" does NOT sound like a Linkin Park album, but we've only heard a terrible quality leak of one song from the album. Maybe it'll be more appealing once we hear the album and understand their direction. Who knows, maybe there's a title track called "Living Things" as well, and maybe it's so amazing and LP-encompassing that they decided to name the album after it. Be pissed off about not hearing snippets, but throw them a bone when it comes to names that we don't even understand the symbolism behind yet!
  3. Haha, well, ya know... Nah but seriously they don't want anyone to hear even a likeness of the song. They took down all the covers. Didn't help that my video was the 5th video for the YouTube search of "linkin park burn it down". If anyone wants to hear it, just PM me.
  4. I made a little instrumental cover based off the leak, if anyone's interested. Disclaimer: It may skew your perception of the song, if you haven't listened to the leak. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tMzXvwEaPok Mods, lemme know if there's a problem with me posting this for whatever reason.
  5. If this is true, I'm not too surprised with the general lack of information and hype regarding the album or the single. This caused such a problem with their last two albums, where LP hyped up this incredibly new and unique sound, but things rarely live up to their hype. If you aren't expecting something in particular, that's one less way for you to be disappointed. The only thing they've promised so far is that it'll be more recognizable and there will be more guitar--something I believe they can deliver without disappointment.
  6. I'm expecting something kind of like Meteora, with a little less angst, a little more hope, and a lot more mature. I'm not expecting a lot of the heavier screaming (OSC bridge, Given Up bridge, etc.) because I feel like Chester already pushes himself on those songs and instead wants songs that are easier and more fun to play live. I'm expecting a good amount of Mike, I can see there being a lot more vocal harmonies cuz I feel like Mike is pretty comfortable with his voice now, but I don't expect more than 3 songs in which he raps. I'm hoping for some more piano as it helps fully saturate their melodies. I think they're overstating how much presence the guitars will have. I think they just mean that every song will have an easily hearable and recognizable guitar chord progression (kinda like just about every song in HT and Meteora did). I don't see there being a ton of solos, of any instrument, though I'm expecting to actually hear some bass. Phoenix needs some loving. Also I think we'll get maybe 2 or 3 songs with some pretty prominent scratching, but Hahn handles all the synth sounds and I'm expecting those to have a huge presence in a lot of songs. My keyword is balance, they said all the band members are content with how much everyone is being represented, which in my head means that we're going to get a much fuller, richer sound that makes it discernible what each member's contribution is. Lastly, I think the major thing they will take away from the last two albums is that they can make some BEAUTIFUL melodies, but their goal should be to incorporate those melodies to a sound which is more...well, Linkin Park.
  7. Chances are this album won't be too heavy on the rock side. A lot of mainstream 90's/00's bands have been attempting to bring rock back. Incubus, RHCP, Blink 182, they all came out with albums recently but none of them seemed to break back into the mainstream, even after moving their sound less towards the rock side. Clearly rock doesn't have a very good place in this generation, and LP would be falling into the same hole as these bands are if they went for it. But on the flip-side, maybe LP is up for the challenge?
  8. It's not bad, I like it. But yeah can't really say it beats the original.
  9. I'm sorry ATL fanboys, but Pale is definitely more epic than ATL. I'm kind of dumbstruck as to why LP didn't pursue more towards the direction of Pale with their music. The melodies are very simple but the layering, the tone, the balanced use of all the members (assuming Mike would have been rapping to the drums, and Chester would've been singing/screaming in the chorus) and the song length are all gladly welcome.
  10. He didn't literally mean country as in a nation. It's an expression. Here, I did you the liberty of citing one definition of "country" from google: Definitions of country on the Web: area: a particular geographical region of indefinite boundary (usually serving some special purpose or distinguished by its people or culture or geography); "it was a mountainous area"; "Bible country" [/englishlesson]
  11. I don't think anyone here actually cares about anyone else's personal opinion. If you want to criticize the snippets, try to do it on a MUSICAL level, not on a personal "omg i dunt lik tis, gime hybrid thery bak" level cuz that's just asking for an argument. On that note, this definitely was not what I was expecting. A lot of the music and the melodies are just...nothing new. I would say that based on these snippets, ATS has more unoriginal tracks than MTM. Both musically and melodically, these song snippets just don't seem to bring anything new. The lyrics, while seemingly generic, they do feel very inspired, so they don't bring the tracks down. But I usually look forward to listening to LP songs because they bring something completely new to my ears, and from what I've heard so far, only When They Come For Me, Jornada Del Muerto, Blackout, and The Catalyst have really done that for me. I really HOPE that the full length songs turn out to be less generic, and end up blowing me away. I still like how the other tracks sound, but I would much rather be taken to a whole new place with this album.
  12. Eh, I'm not very moved by this song. I'm always down for a good beat but it needs to be complemented by a good melody. That's something LP usually delivers on, on all of their tracks, but this song is really lacking it. The lyrics are disappointing to me, a step down from both LP and FM, and the actual vocals aren't really doing it for me. I don't dislike it but I'm just not wowed. The only thing that impressed me was the scratching at the end which complemented the beat very well. I would've preferred this to be an instrumental track with more scratching and other random elements thrown in there like a driving synth melody.
  13. I was pretty much constantly refreshing before 10:00 AM, and the tickets finally "went up" at around 10:05 AM for me, but were unavailable immediately. I was away for a few hours but now I see that the LPU post says "EDIT: THIS SHOW IS NOW SOLD OUT" at the end of it. Most likely they had maybe 10 tickets left to sell and used that as an excuse to make it look like they were giving an entirely new pre-sale opportunity. Thanks LP, see you in 2011? 2012? What to do until then...I know! I'll spend a couple hundred more on your wonderful exclusive memberships and limited edition releases. (PS: Before you all fire off, I know it's not LP's fault)
  14. I'm pretty sure they messed it up...which sucks because I have to leave in half an hour and probably won't have computer access for a few hours. Thanks so much LPU and Ticketmaster for this great service you've been pushing out!!
  15. I'm actually a little upset because I felt that the seeds from the contest and the small clip we had from before were musically brilliant and melodically beautiful, but this new clip doesn't really do it for me. Granted, this song is very long and most likely has transitions that bridge the multiple stages, but I feel like this new clip strays from the elegance of the previous clips, creates an incoherency of sorts. I do hope, however, that this is just a result of being out of context, and that the song in its entirety does complete justice.
