I've noticed that all the singles thing is not fully-agree-by-everybody, so let's clear things up:

Didn't we already have a thread for this or am I starting to forget my lists? lol

We have this or this, nothing that related to this thread.

i have the same feeling, some lists are pointless and repetitive, jus tlike some LP songs lol

Just like all of your comments.

This is not a list actually, this is just a long question.

Define released...

How am I supposed to know if it was ever played on any radio station ;)

How do you define "promotional singles" ?

I would define it as a song released to radio as promotion for an album, but not released seperatly for purchase, like LGM or LFY

But LFY, POA, and some of the Reanimation promos had also music videos, so is it "upgrade" them? It's very complicated.

I wouldn't say a single is a song with a music video. That would mean every Reanimation song was a single.

Exactly, but people consider LFY as a single, and Mark said it was played a lot on the radio.

So what matters? Every song that played by the radio, even if you can't buy it is a promotional single (Because it was used to "promote" on the radio)?

Edit:

A promo single (short for promotional single) is a single that is made available to radio stations, nightclubs, music publications, and other media outlets by a record label for the express purpose of promoting a forthcoming commercial single or an entirely new album. A song may be released as a promotional single even if no commercial version of the single is available to buy, usually if this is the case it is for the purposes of promoting an entire album. While intended specifically for use by professional disc jockeys and not for resale, they are frequently sought out by music collectors nonetheless.

The promo single is usually recognized by its limited liner notes and cover artwork as well as its unique catalog number (or the occasional lack thereof). Quite often, vinyl records will be issued in a generic cardboard jacket or white paper sleeve while CDs will be issued in a slimline jewel case or cardboard sleeve.

There may also be promotion-specific terms stamped on the disc or its cover, most notably "For Promotional Use Only."

Is that correct?

Is that correct?

I would say that is correct. A promo single is a song used on radio (LFY, LGM, POA etc.) that is not released commercially and it's purpose is to promote the album as a whole, not just that individual track. If it is released commercially, then it is just a single. That's just my take.

So with this opinion, you'll say iTunes singles are official singles?

It even has official cover; it's the same like the other iTunes releases.

Yes, and some of them released as vinyls.

Lying From You [More than just a promo, it was a radio single in the US]

What is that means more then a promo? single without the option to buy it?

Dirt Off Your Shoulder/Lying From You (With Jay-Z) [iTunes only]

4) Link?

1) Oh yeah, I remember that. I think that I have the cover on my computer.

2) Didn't knew that.

3) A promo is a "light" release. The song is only sent to the radio stations and has a release date, while promo's don't have a set release date. Lying from You got to the first position in the Billboard rock charts, solely on Airplay.

4) They removed the iTunes release but I got this though.

So LFY should be under "official singles"?
