Rock am Ring / Rock im Park 2017?

It's mid-October, which means confirmations for next summer's European festivals are slowly happening.

A recent interview with Phoenix indicated that Linkin Park plans to be touring for the new album around March or April, which is earlier in the year than the past three studio albums (A Thousand Suns, Living Things, and The Hunting Party). This means a significant portion of the touring cycle has been booked at this point and the band's name is being thrown around in rumors for Euro festivals.

Rock am Ring and Rock im Park have already announced their 2017 dates and initial lineup. The festivals are set for June 2nd to June 4th.

The first edition of the lineup includes headliners Die Toten Hosen and System of a Down, but the third headliner is missing and will be announced at a later time. Linkin Park's last appearance at the festivals was in 2014, the last year that Nürburgring hosted Rock am Ring. The third headliner at this point is rumored to be between Linkin Park and Guns N' Roses, but we have learned GNR is likely going with a European stadium tour around that time, like Coldplay and Depeche Mode.

Linkin Park is also rumored to headline Hellfest in France, which also takes place in June 2017, along with Aerosmith and Prophets of Rage.

We should start seeing confirmations on the band's expected appearances next year sometime soon, as the album news cycle should be kicking off in the next 8-10 weeks while Linkin Park puts the finishing touches on their new album.

I NEED A LIVE SHOW, MOTHERFUCKER!! :D Only 2013 and 2016 I did not go to a LP show . Every year since 2007 there was at least one show which I attened :)
Hopefully a great summer Euro tour like 2008 which their own open air shows. The line up of RAR/RIP is not the best...many small dick rappers and only SOAD is one of the great acts til now :P

That would be amazing! I'd love to see Linkin Park as the last headliner at Rock am Ring! Seeing System of a Down and Linkin Park live at the same festival within 3 days would be the biggest thing ever!

So please let it be Linkin Park! :)

(The last LP concert for me was in 2014, so I really need to see them again :P .... Also, I mean come on, it's System!!! One of the best bands of all times!)

I envy European and North-American fans. So much options to choose from, and maybe the option to go on more than one show. But we from the rest of the world must wait 5 years and select the closest option (usually more than 500km away).

And won't Metallica be touring around this time of the year, too?

Guns n Roses are very heavily expected to be playing Download Festival here in the UK alongside System of a Down, so is this European Stadium tour now something they are doing instead of this? As this has been rumored for a very long time as being next year, even before the comeback shows in the US were announced.

Because before that I would have said it was pretty certain it was going to be GNR for that other slot and they were just waiting for the GNR to announce all the dates.

Also I would expect they want a really big name with weaker headliners like that.

Also just throwing this out there... didn't LP subheadline to System fairly recently?

I've been to 10 Download festivals so far and I love it... but to be honest I would much prefer an LP headline tour. It's just better indoors with more hardcore than casual fans, atmosphere is just way better, I love festivals but it's more about the experience a s whole and as LP are my favorite band, I prefer to experience them at there own shows.

Yeah I saw the GNR rumors for Download. I bet they play Download too - I don't think they'd just do a normal Euro festival run if they can make more money from headlining their own stadiums and selling those out. The reason I say this is that a promoter has indicated they are playing the stadium in Munich, meaning it's likely a stadium tour but as you said they could do a few festivals. That's why I think LP is the last band for RIP/RAR.

LP opened for System at KROQ AAC, but that was in the USA where LP is not as popular. LP is just as big as System in Europe; LP is a bigger band overseas than at home.

LP is still huge in the U.S. too, though. The Honda Civic Tour in 2012 and Carnivores Tour in 2014 were actually the highest grossing tours in the U.S. that LP have ever done and they were mega popular. They also headlined a lot of huge festivals last year in 2015 as well. No doubt that LP is huge in Europe, Adam even told me at the Camden LPU Summit in 2012 that LP was bigger in Germany than they are here. LP has really become a global band on the live scene in recent years, though. I'm sure the next touring cycle will have huge shows both in the U.S. and Europe. I don't live in Europe and don't want to travel to Europe so I'm pretty pumped for the next U.S. tour, and I'm hoping that LP headlines some awesome stuff in Europe and elsewhere for everyone else too. We're all LP fans at the end of the day.

I couldn't agree more. And I really dislike the fact that when they come to Brazil, it's something like this: one year solo, next festival, solo, festival.. I mean, a band this great with so many fans in here with only one concert? That's sad. :( I know this may sound weird, but I really hope they come next year but not from RiR, or at least not only RiR.

Germany is just crazy, I am from Germany so I'm lucky. The amount of shows they had in a time period of 10 month is insane. RAR/RIP + 9 shows in the fall and then 3 huge open air concerts 2015. There were like over 200.000 fans seeing them.

Now after this long period, I do think it's time for a big Us tour.

I'm hoping for a uk arena tour or lp show on there own i dont go to download festival no more as got boring and lp always have a better crowed/shows in arena over here plus they sell out

Arenas are almost always better than these big large festivals or stadiums. Much better feeling and more energy. Cologne 2014 was by far better than Berlin 2015.

200.000+ at the three shows in 2015? Not really.... At Hockenheimring there were only around 10.000-12.000 people...Berlin 24.000 and in Düsseldorf 30.000

And if you talked about 2014 AND 2015 then at least 300.000 + the crowds at RAR / RIP (80.000 + 70.000)

I also would love it too. As far I remember, Hahninator can correct if I'm wrong, but LP would do solo shows in 2014 too, but some problems deciding which band would be LP opener (The favorite were Panic! At the Disco, but the tickets would be so expensive that the management didn't accept).

So, maybe 2017 LP do some solo shows in Brazil, who knows? :)

Like Hahninator said below me. I remember reading that the 9 shows were sold out and about 190.00+ people came.Well I realized I failed. In an Interview with Marek Lieberberg, he said that three shows were at about 70.000 ticket sells. I mean LP could've played more shows in this year in Germany an still sell the shit out of them :D

He's saying 200,000+ from 2014-2015 seeing LP in Germany.

Yea, but need to correct my number, like marzo23 said, more than 300.000 is a realistic number

But first LP have some people in US to calm

I hope that they will do some warm up / intimate US shows in April /May.

Maybe:
April/ May..........................Intimate US tour (10-15 shows with rare songs and new songs)

June/July...........................Euro tour festivals and some headline shows

August/September.............USA/Canada/Mexico tour

October..............................South America tour

November..........................Asia tour

December.........................some US Christmas shows

January.............................Australian tour

February............................Euro arena tour

I would expect Metallica to be doing Euro festivals as well as they always come over here and play almost nonstop since they need the money.

With a new album, they have got to be pretty big contenders for the final slot at Rock AM ring too?

So many options for the final spot.I would rather let Metallica or Guns n' Roses play at RaR than LP, and let LP play a Europe-Headline Tour.

Metallica is not in consideration for that slot.
https://metallica.com/blog/news/433803/worldwired-tour-travels-to-copenhagen
"We will be opening the doors of the Royal Arena for the first time on February 3 and 5, 2017 and as of this time these shows are our only scheduled European appearances of ’17, until the Fall at the earliest."

So they won't be in Europe playing festivals in 2017. In 2018, I'm sure they'll do it.
