Join Mike for a Reddit AMA on August 12

Mike will be hosting an AMA on Reddit on Wednesday, August 12 (next week), answering questions from fans.

"AMA" stands for "Ask Me Anything", hosted on Reddit. During AMAs, notable people in any given subject (whether it be science, music, art, etc.) users can ask the host anything (as long as they are held relevant) and will receive an answer.

This will be in a similar fashion to the LPU Chats, except that this is more discussion based and will lack video. Prepare your questions, it all goes down on August 12 at 10am PST (convert to your timezone here)! Keep up with the countdown to the event here.

The last tour on The Hunting Party Tour is approaching, with the band performing a few more dates in Europe at the end of August and the beginning of September. Fort Minor will be making appearances in Copenhagen, Berlin, and Düsseldorf, as well. For updates, check back on the forums or follow us on Twitter.

Finally. I was waiting for a reddit AMA for years. This is a pretty good chance for us to get some good questions answered. I think we should prepare some questions so we can post them as soon as the AMA starts so they get a few more upvotes. Also other reddit useres always ask good questions that fans somehow don't come up with and stupid questions like "when do you come to my country" get downvoted like shit.

I was going to ask this (I'll probably just copy and paste this to Reddit):

For this touring cycle, you've had some very complex and all-inclusive setlists. While they are very good at piecing together every element of Linkin Park's career, there's a problem with it: it's too tightly-knit. It doesn't really allow for any on-the-spot variability. It can only change as the set is printed to change each night. Look at bands like Muse or Thirty Seconds To Mars, who have general structures for their setlists with rotating parts that can be determined on the spot on a nightly basis. Each song in the latest Linkin Park setlists are dependent on the previous (or the following) song to keep an established flow consistent through the set. The set goes from a highly energetic beginning to a slow middle that almost kills all of the energy in a sense, before becoming a mid-tempo session filled with singles. I guess I have two questions in regards to this:

1) Are there songs you feel obligated to be playing? For example, the setlist is very Hybrid Theory heavy, instead of featuring a plethora of new songs from the latest album. Is this because you feel the crowd will react more to earlier songs like "Points Of Authoity" and "Runaway" instead of new cuts like "Keys To The Kingdom" or "Mark The Graves"? Or that the singles have more of a live presence than songs like "Until It's Gone" or "Guilty All The Same"?

2) What was the motif behind the latest setlists, when the band was in the process of making them? Did you go into it expecting to make a setlist that was so complex and tight? Like I mentioned before, bands like Muse and 30STM have general structured setlists that can vary from night-to-night. Have you ever thought of going that route?

@RogueSoul

honestly, asking Mike about setlists insisting that they are not so good, and then setting 30 seconds to mars as an example is just nonsense.

30 seconds to mars does only one thing during their shows: they completely disregard the audience, playing from 11 to 13 full songs on a freaking headline show, they almost completely skip playing two out of their four records.

How can that be an example to whichever band in the world?!

Muse, though, is in a completely different league live wise, yes, they have a very great range of songs, I do think they rehearse around 40 songs for each tour, they did a stadium tour two years ago when they played for two hours(and even more) straight, but they lack a feeling of a band that is playing live.

Muse lacks the feeling of a band playing live? Bellamy explodes. I love Muse live, haha. They also play songs they DON'T rehearse before a tour...they'll pull something out on show day, run through it and add it to the set on the spot. Happened in Nashville in 2013 and the last show of the Euro Tour too. Hell, Tokyo Zepp too.

There's another big question that I want to ask but it is WAY too dickish to ask him this and hope to get any other replies other than something reminiscent of Trent Reznor's AMA. See if you guys can help me with delivery:

You've said a lot of things leading up to the release of THP that later came to be untrue, other than saying that the record would be heavier and a return to hard rock. When you made your blog post about rock music dying, you attacked indie alternative bands for being the closest things we have to rock music, but then you went and toured with 30STM and AFI. Later on, you even partnered with Echosmith for business. After saying that this is an album meant to be played live, you played only half of the songs and dropped half of those throughout the tour, even shortening Until It's Gone after all the hype for it (lyric video, music video, live video).

And here's the part where I don't know how to not sound mean, so help me on this one: So, how do your words taste?

Well that whole thing sounds mean, and quite frankly, I don't know why you'd bother asking. What's the best answer you could expect? Him saying Brad didn't feel like playing THP so they don't? Maybe they dropped Until It's Gone because there are many other, more popular singles they could be playing.

Yeah I want a calm answer like that but I k ow that isn't an easy way to ask it. I never would, but I have seen that kind of stuff mentioned on the forums here before (usuallt moreso on LPA).

I think Mike said the same about LIVING THINGS and they only played half the album, this question is fine but you need to reconstruct it so it doesn't sound 'mean'. D:

The best way to get harsher questions answered is to post numerous question in a single post and give him some lighter questions which he would be glad to answer. But don't make 10 question posts. No one likes them :-D

I hope Mike won't just go through the first level posts but also takes a look at some follow ups to his questions. Makes AMAs always way better.

I can't really think of anything so I'll just ask what we're going to expect for albums and LPU releases over the next few years.

Best thing you can do if you don't have any questions is to make sure you have a reddit account and upvote the questions you think are good! I think that's even more important than posting good questions ;)
