Congratulations to RHCP Fans on Oldschool Release

We'd like to extend a massive congratulations to the Red Hot Chili Peppers community on a goal that they just met, which they've been working for since August 2013. Their fans at that time created a Change.org petition to get RHCP to release older soundboard recordings by the band. The petition was asking for 5,000 signatures, which they obtained in 2014, and was directed to Warner Music Group, who oversees the band.

Starting off, the petition reads, "If you're a fan of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, this is important as it showcases the magnificent talent they possess when they play in front of their fans!"

It goes on to state, "With the huge success of the live downloads made available from the recent 'I'm With You' tour, we're campaigning for the earlier recordings to be made available for commercial release too.

Hearing the classic shows the band have put on over the last decade would be a dream come true for most, if not all, Red Hot Chili Peppers fans. The principle worked for the recent tour, and we know expanding the catalogue would make us fans very happy!"

Fast forward two years to just last week, when Red Hot Chili Peppers emailed their fanbase and posted the following to social media, "You've been asking for them. We've been digging through the archives and want to share the first show with you now...
Get the free live download from Cardiff, Wales on June 23, 2004 now. Stay tuned for more releases from the Red Hot Chili Peppers live downloads archives!"

Needless to say, the fans were successful and the band decided to release older recordings. The first one comes from their very popular 2004 tour across the world and was even released for FREE to promote the upcoming releases that they're going to put out. Nice!

Unfortunately, our campaign to get older DSPs released by Linkin Park (started in March 2013) was not as successful. The band stopped releasing shows in November 2012 due to low sales and hasn't restarted selling them since. The DSP website still has all 229 shows (see our wiki page here) that the band released from 2007 to 2012. While we would like to see Linkin Park release a few shows each year on the website as well as a few random older shows, it doesn't seem like that is going to happen as we haven't heard any news from their management about it in quite some time. Maybe someday...

The live recording guide for RHCP entitled Stone Cold Bush, run by our good friend Anton, lists all known RHCP recordings as we have attempted to do here on LPLive. It is a recommended site if you're a fan of the band as it is well kept and the community there is quite dedicated to preserving the RHCP live history. It is one of many websites for bands like our own that keep track of recordings, like NIN Live (formerly Reflecting In The Chrome), Live Nirvana, and Foo Fighters Live.

Anyway, congratulations to the Red Hot Chili Peppers fans and we're excited to see what else that band releases!

EDIT: Suppose LP were to release old shows as DSP's or whatever, what could we get? I don't think they recorded everything from before 2007, right? I know they must have recorded some shows in order to release stuff like they did on the singles, LPU albums, etc. back in the day. Maybe we could get some kind of a Xero recording or something, maybe Mike or Joe or someone has that lying around from back then, even if it's a bootleg type of thing, etc.? But anyways, we could probably get a full Summer Sonic 2006 show since they release stuff from that on LPU6 and the WID single. Maybe we could get a PR '02 show since they release stuff from that on the SIB single. PR '04 stuff because they release that on LPU4... They also release BTH from RAR '04 on that so they probably have a DSP mix of that, too.

The best thing would be a DSP of Bamboozle '07 or New York '10 because I was at both of those shows and that was before the DSP's stopped in 2012. I assume they don't have anything from the shows I went to in 2013 or 2014 because that was after they stopped doing them.

I'm pretty sure they still record the shows, unless they stopped in 2014. I know they recorded the 2013 shows.

They record all shows. Every show from mid 2007-now has been recorded. I know that for a 110% fact. The only thing they are missing from that entire period of LP being on stage is the second half of Epicenter 2009, where the power outage killed the recording so they lost the ability to record the part after BTH.

So what about to start a new campaign? It's been almost 2 years since the first one - who knows what happened since then - time goes, management changes - maybe we have a better chance to change the situation now. So how about a petition?
With the upcoming european tour there will be lots of people interested in audio recordings. There are dozens of communities in social networks for each LP show in this tour containing thousands of members.
We can spread the word among major LP-fansites plus social networks, maybe we can even get in touch with RHCP-campaign organizers to promote it via RHCP-community as well.

Mark and I talked about it the other day we are totally down to do it, it's just a matter of getting started / working it out, what to say etc.

I think it's pretty crazy that the RHCP fans managed to achieve this with only roughly 5,000 signatures over a time of 2 years!!!!

There are millions of LP fans out there, if we do it we have to get way way more. Getting a higher number in a very short time is also very impressive. LPLive alone has over 30,000 followers on Twitter, if only every third person would sign that would be 10,000 already.

I guess it would have been better to do a petition 2 years ago BUT the reason we didn't do it was simply that no petition ever worked, petitions were simply overused in the previous years, fans started petitions for everything! and when something out of those many petitions coincidentally happened it was concluded petitions work. I personally think those petitions never worked.

But anyway, this RHCP petition shows that it apparently can be done. Change.org seems like a serious way to do it and I think if we do it, we can do waaaaaay better than they did.

Don't forget everyone on LPA. Plus someone with an LPU account can advertise in there. Also could post it on the LP facebook page. Lot's can be done.

They recorded something after they dropped DSP program? Any source?

I think they recorded Wroclaw show in some way, because in MTV's "The Ride" there are some excerpts from this show (part of Until it's Gone, Faint, ALTNC, Ballad Medley, New Divide, Faint, Bleed it Out, Papercut, Waiting For The End and something from backstage)

LP has recorded every show since summer 2007, yes. That includes 2012, 2013 and 2014, every show. Pooch has confirmed this several times.

They recorded every show since 2007 but they stopped releasing DSPs in 2012/2013 and they still record shows since 2012/13? It doesn't make sense :|

Recording the shows doesn't cost them anything extra, but mixing and releasing as DSPs does. Apparently the sales didn't cover the costs anymore, but we don't know for sure it that was the real reason.

Since they stopped DSP program they are playing the same set over and over again... Maybe this is the real reason - they're lazy :P

Sales were bad? Lol, everywhere I see people, who want DSPs back.

Yeah but people stopped buying them due to the community sharing them so freely. The numbers I heard were horrible. Huge festivals and not even selling 50 DSPs. They can blame the community, sure, but that's an extremely small portion of the fanbase. If they promoted them better, they'd have no problem.

They should sell them with the tickets and display a message on the screens before and after the show, they would easily sell thousands. It is clearly something people want, everyone wants a recording of a show they just saw, the CD's at the booths sold out most of the time. The site was a mess to, people had all sorts of problems, just email the stuff to the people. Making it all online only doomed the whole project if nobody knew they were still selling the shows.

I've been to a show with numerous people before and they don't care about bootlegs or anything like that because they have already heard the show first hand. Some people are into live tracks, a lot of people aren't. Most people would rather just listen to the actual album and say ''hey I saw Linkin Park perform this song before''. You have to understand that we are not the big demographic, most fans that go to shows or the the other way. They were also pretty expensive IMO so I think that turned a lot of people off.
