Linkin Park to collaborate with Riot Games?

today, Mike Shinoda posted some snaps at Riot Games and I was wondering if maybe they are going to do a song for League of Legends and perform at the 2015 World Championship grand final on October 31, in Berlin, Germany.

last year, Imagine Dragons released "Warriors" in September for them and performed at the WC grand final on October 19, 2014 in Seoul, South Korea.

Since I am following the e-sport scene of league pretty closely I think I can add some more details and information to this:

First of all the World Championships is a fucking huge event every year that stretches over a month with a huge final at the end of it all. They started hiring artists to do some music and performance for it since 2013 I believe. 2012 only had a orchestra if I remember correctly.

So 2013 had Wes Borland of Limp Bizkit, The Crystal Method and some other artists I am not familiar with. Awesome performance in the sold out Staples Center. You can watch it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=39k9tnIjAegStill getting goosebumps whenever I am watching it.

Maybe a bit more background: The Wes Borland part was specifically written for Worlds while the Crystal Method part was written for a champion that got released in the game. Every new champion that gets added to the game has it's own soundtrack and The Crystal Method did the music for the champion Lucian.

In 2014 they teamed up with Imagine Dragons and created the song Warriors which was also kind of a mainstream success as far as I know (at least I heard it in the radio a few times): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fmI_Ndrxy14

They also performed the song at the opening show of the Finals last year in South Korea (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=36dx0wpLtmU) and a small set after the games have finished ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GJOW2IyxDtU ).

So I don't expect Riot Games to go any smaller than last year. Sadly it's already confirmed that LP won't perform at worlds by Riot Magus (who is pretty much the head of the esports department at Riot Games) on Reddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/leagueoflegends/comments/3gs0lw/linkin_park_to_preform_at_world_finals/cu14hq0

What does that mean though?

Well first of all it's just a confirmation that LP won't perform at worlds which still leaves us with the possibility of some kind of MS/FM collaboration with Riot Games. But there is still the LP show the next day, right? Well first of all Riot Games is throwing so much money at Worlds that they would definitely pay enough for someone to consider doing two shows in 24 hours around the globe. Also worlds starts at around 1pm, so the opening ceremony should be done at 2pm and if you add the difference in time zones there would be at least 36h between the shows.

On the other side maybe it has nothing to do with the World Championships. Like mentioned before The Crystal Method did the soundtrack for a new champion. But that's not the only time they took known artists to work on something for the game. In League Of Legends you can also buy skins for champions (basically just a difference appearance for a champion ingame). There are different tiers of these skins and the most expensive tier is some really high quality shit. This year they released a skin for a champion called Sona which was designed around a DJ concept (http://promo.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/dj-sona/). They hired 6 more or lesser known to create songs for that skin:

1. The Crystal Method & Dada Life: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uHJyAZtRrOY

2. Bassnectar & Renholder: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zX7UWavbT5g

3. Nosaj Thing & Pretty Lights: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cxa1Y71Lgyg

So there is also a chance that Riot Games and LP are teaming up for creating the soundtrack for a new champion or a new skin.

If you have any questions feel free to ask. If anyone got interested in watching competitive League you can contact me directly ;)

Update (7.9.15):

At one of the last LPL (coincidence? xD) games for Worlds qualification they flashed a promo picture from the MTM era and wrote something like "You guessed it?". Since LPL is the official Chinese LoL league the text was in Mandarin and there are a dozen of translations floating around but I think that one makes the most sense. That seems to be too random to just appear at an official stream if there isn't something going on.

After that RiotMagus confirmed again that LP won't perform at Worlds (no surprise though) but maybe there is something coming. They released Warriors about a month before Worlds started, so if they keep the same schedule for this year we could hear something new in the next 10 days.

League of Legends is on the decline, and I'd be kinda disappointed if LP worked with them.

This is literally the opposite of what is happening with LoL

I don't even play yet I know it's only going up from here... people make millions from competing with this game lmao

Pros are losing interest, the most popular pro player is retiring very soon. The list of features the game needs but doesn't have is growing. They flat out said they won't add a sandbox mode, despite it being the most requested feature, along with replays. I played the game for years and finally quit. Obviously I don't know how many people play each day / month and whether or not it is decreasing, but I believe league has passed it's peak, my opinion of course. I don't think they are going to go out of business, but I do think dissatisfaction among players is increasing, that's all.

Here's a source, 3 league of legends pros, with dyrus and xPeke being incredibly popular, stating they will most likely retire after worlds. https://www.reddit.com/r/leagueoflegends/comments/3c3qxu/xpeke_plans_to_retire_after_worlds/css21u9?context=3

So a few pros retiring means the gane is declining? We have a lot of new and upcoming pros coming that are also great. the lol playerbase is going up every single year. Just because you don't like it anymore doesn't mean the whole fanbase is turning away. I think 99% of the playerbase doesn't give any shits about the replays and the sandbox mode.

Dyrus is one of the most popular pros of all time, and xPeke is probably one of the most popular EU pros,

. These two guys retiring will have some impact on LCS views, thats all I'm saying.

Although there is no source that confirms whether or not the lol playerbase is increasing every year, I would agree it is, but because of Asia. I believe NA / EU's growth has slowed down, or possibly stopped, and within a year or two, we could see it begin to decline.

Also, as you may already know, one of the most famous internet personalities, VideoGameDunkey, was banned (for 14 days I think), and

. He certainly has a lot of power, and I believe he may have been able to change a lot of people's opinions with that video. Edited by iPodwithnomusic

Mike probably likes the game so went as a fan or in one pic I see art on the wall he might have just designed some art for them or something it won't be a song or we would have had more info about it if it is a song there probably just using a song off one of the albums.

By the way. Riot Games have an album whose name is ''Pentakill'' and there are some cool metal songs and songs from other genres. Now, 3 hours ago they confirmed that they are working on an second album. Maybe we see something from Mike there!

That's right! I could see some sort of a collaboration working that way.

Here's a link to where it's confirmed.

Ha, I was sure that Mike wasn't visiting them just for fun.

Linkin Park, or better Machine Shop Ventures, is part of a venture capital who just bought the esport team Team8, which is now called Immortals. Read everything about it here: http://www.dailydot.com/esports/immortals-team-8-noah-whinston-venture-capital/

Mike and Brad were probably there to see how the LCS is running and get some numbers from Riot Games before they invested in it.
