Xero is being sold on Discogs

I'd bet that some of the tapes are not worth the money anymore. A few years ago someone attempted a re-rip and it sounded absolutely horrible, so depending on how they were stored and the overall quality of the tapes some might be in bad condition. And that's not getting any better as they continue aging.

That's something that would matter to me if I paid that much money for it.

It's a crapshoot for sure. You're never going to get two cassettes, particularly 20-year old cassettes, that sound the same. I think I'm up to 5 or 6 different digitized versions of Xero rips from various sources and they all have their pros and cons. At this point I'd honestly think of a Xero tape purely as a collection piece because I really doubt a better rip is going to be feasible anymore. Still holding out hope that Mike digitized the master tape at some point early on in the band's career and that a proper reissue of the songs is a possibility.

aren't all those versions just sourced from 2 or 3 tapes really?

Does anyone know the rip by a scene group IDX? I have it on my computer. The nfo file in the release says it was ripped in 2002.

Actually the rips i have besides this:

-nkramar's (flac, from dime)

-"Garage Days Unleashed" (flac 24/44.1) I dunno where I got this, maybe LPA? has a glitched artwork

-LPFuse Rerip 2006 (mp3)

-2010 remaster version by Skittle021 (mp3)

-The one from HT Demos torrent from dime. (flac) another one by nkramar?

-maybe somewhere I have the rip by pushmeaway.com

"Garage Days" is from LPA, if I'm not mistaken it was a updated remaster by Skittle021 of his original remaster. Or something like that, Garage Days is miles better than any others I've heard

The IDX release was ripped 04/29/2002 and says a tape was the source.

Either the group obtained a tape and ripped it themselves or they reformatted the files available at that time and hawked them as their own.

EDIT: Just listened to IDX copy and can confirm that there is a skip at 1:05 of Stick N Move.

The IDX rip is the first rip of the tape that circulated (same as what you'd find on pushmeaway.com and other similar places back in the day). The speed is slightly off (it runs a bit fast/high-pitched), and there's a skip during the first chorus of Stick N' Move. It's still one of the clearest-sounding rips of the tape IMO, but it has no low-end frequencies to speak of, in addition to the other previously mentioned problems.

I have 5 rips:
1. 2002 IDX rip
2. 2006 LP:Fuse rip

3. 2007 nkramar rip (as far as I know, this is the same one contained in Nick's demo compilation as well, but someone can probably correct me on this)
4. Skittle021's first rip ("Garage Days Revisited" - 2010)
5. Skittle021's second rip ("Garage Days Unleashed" - 2011)

Not sure how many different tapes were involved in the creation of these rips though.

3. Pretty sure here's only one rip

4. I remember that he had to redo it because people complained about the massive filtering.

for Linkinpedia purposes, the links to both LPA versions

http://www.lpassociation.com/forum/threads/xero-demo-tape-remastered-2011.33879/

http://www.lpassociation.com/forum/threads/xero-demo-tape-remaster-v4-0-garage-days-unleashed.35122

so Skittle021's version is one rip, with 2 different remasters.

Skittle021 never ripped it. He remastered Nick's rip, twice. There are only three rips - IDX, LPFuse, Nick. +Skittle021 remastered Nick's twice.

I remember at some point after 2011, someone else TRIED to rip it but it came out crap - I do not remember who that was.

Who in the community has current copies of the tape? I assume LPCatalog has one? JomJom from LPItaly has one still right? Nick sold his to someone I believe.

I have both versions of the tapes stored away. I have thought about having someone rip them to cd format, but haven't committed to it yet

Would be awesome if you tried for a new rip, as time goes by it just gets harder and harder to rip tapes.

If someone wants a good cassette/tape rip:

I know some guy living in England, who ripped a Rammstein demo tape which sounded like this before and his rip is that upgrade: https://soundcloud.com/rasputin-93/sets/rammstein-rammstein-demo-tape

He's absolutely trustworthy, he ripped a ton of tapes for my own fan-wiki about Rammstein.

wow this guy is really amazing, great job, huge difference when you compare the audios, would be awesome if he would do the Xero tape

I really need to get a rip of them. There is no one close to me that could do a quality job though

well if you can verify that that UK guy , that Rasputin93 suggested, is indeed a legit guy then u could ship him over the demo tape, im sure if you need help with expenses, of the 2 way shipping and the fee for that guy to do the job, the community here will happily pitch in

I can totally confirm that he's trustworthy.

He's a longtime R+ collector and he even sent me 600€ so I could manage to get two (yet unreleased) demo tapes for him, because the seller didn't want to send outside of Germany.

If you want him to rip it, hit me up and I'll send you his mail adress.
